SDCC '14: Star Trek and Planet of the Apes Comic Book Crossover Announced

Posted by Jonathan Jackson - Saturday, July 26, 2014

Boom Studios has announced a Star Trek and Planet of the Apes crossover at Comic-Con International. The comic book crossover will pair the original U.S.S. Enterprise crew with Taylor, Nova, and the cast from the original Planet of the Apes film. The plot is still under wraps, but a small teaser has been released:

"With the Klingons secretly backing a renegade gorilla general in a coup for control of Ape City, Captain Kirk finds himself in the uncomfortable position of having to help out Dr. Zaius' orangutans."

IDW will publish the crossover, which will mark the first time BOOM! Studios has partnered with another publisher on a series. Together they will bring Star Trek, licensed by CBS Consumer Products, and 20th Century Fox’s Planet of the Apes together in a way that is sure to delight existing fans and make new ones.

"Planet of the Apes and Star Trek are groundbreaking science-fiction properties and both deal with many of the same social issues and themes," says Greg Goldstein, IDW President & Chief Operating Officer. "A crossover between the two is a natural and long overdue."

read Star trek/Planet of the apes online free"Before I could read comic books as a child, I could watch science fiction on my television. My dad used to wake me up way past my bedtime to watch Star Trek in syndication—it came on after the nightly news—and I took a Planet of the Apes lunchbox with me to kindergarten every day," says BOOM! Studios Founder and CEO, Ross Richie. "Suffice to say, teaming up these two titans of science-fiction on the page in a way that they probably will never meet each other on the silver screen is a huge moment for me personally and emotionally."

The creative team will be a mix of proven experience and new blood, with scripts by beloved Star Trek scribes Scott and David Tipton (Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation 2) and interior art and covers by the British newcomer Rachael Stott.

I will definitely be keeping a close eye on this, as these are two of my favorite films/TV series as a kid growing up.

If you could have a crossover of your two favorite TV series made into a comic, what would they be? Why not let us know in the comments below.

Review of Storm #1 by Grek Pak

Storm's a-brewin'!

Lightening Strikes for Storm #1

Marvel has just released the next series in their line of mighty female titles. Grek Pak is back with the X-Men since his work on X-treme X-men wound up in 2013. Pak delivers us Storm as a strong African woman and mutant leader. It is not surprising Marvel has chosen this self-titled series to continue to show strides in diversifying its titles range.

As far as the story goes, it was a quick jaunt to set up the on-going series. The material covered does well to introduce the main character, but besides this, there is only a small supporting cast made up of fellow X-Man Hank (Beast) McCoy and Creep, a student at the Jean Grey School for High Learning. It is anticipated that more characters released through this series will have stronger links to Storm than other aspects of the X-Men community of comics.

The issue has swift pace due to the average number of panels per page, though it doesn't quite lift the action sequences out in the book in a noticeable way. This is also due to the character-driven dialogue which focuses on the often contradictory characteristics Storm exhibits.

Storm #1 Internal Art Fanboys Anonymous Victor Ibanez Grek Pak MarvelStorm is a noble, fierce woman not to be trifled with, as evident in her ability to drive back a Tsunami during this issue. However, Storm is also confrontational and proud. You get the sense here that Pak is exploring how best to reveal these various facets of Storm's personality to the best effect. He does this well by contrasting Storm's emotional outburst towards the student Creep as her Headmistress, with Storm's compassion and understanding showing by the end of the book.

The art by Victor Ibanez captures a certain gritty mood that is apparent on the first few pages, but drops seamlessly to the background by the book's end. It isn't in-your-face art, but in this manner it doesn't detract from the story either. The colors by Ruth Redmond adds a grounded and earthy feeling to this issue. They also help bring a sombre mood to the story, which seems to match the emotions portrayed throughout.

Storm #1 delivers what it needs to as the beginning of the series. The story is centered on establishing the lead character and setting a platform from which to launch the first arc. This seems like a nice lead into the series and there is a sense much more may be delivered as it continues. It would be great to see this title expand and cross-over with further character interaction from other X-titles. The potential is there, the delivery is fine, not a bad read to wind down the week with, but let us know what you think in the comments below.

Agent Carter producers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus spilled some interesting information about the new show when they said that a (somewhat) new character would make his debut: Edwin Jarvis.

For those who are unaware, Jarvis from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not exactly how the character has always been. In the comics, Tony Stark quite literally had a butler named Edwin Jarvis, as stereotypical as that seems.

While the new take on the character has been extremely popular and implemented into other incarnations, it is nice to see that Marvel will be giving even more backstory to Jarvis by making him Howard Stark's servant whom Tony is inspired to model his artificial intelligence based on.

J.A.R.V.I.S. (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System) is voiced by Paul Bettany, who will be portraying The Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which naturally has led to the conclusion that the android will be the next step up from that and the next evolution very much in the same spirit as what we will see on Agent Carter.

However, if you are expecting Bettany to be on the show as Jarvis, you will likely be disappointed. The actor has said numerous times that his role in these films is not that taxing, so he probably will not be on board with joining the series in such a minor role. Instead, look for Jarvis to be played by a completely different actor, but still just represent the sort of personality that J.A.R.V.I.S. was spawned from.

Who would you like to see portray Edwin Jarvis on the show? Are there any other Easter eggs that you will be looking out for? Tell us your ideas in the comments below!

Ben Grimm Jamie Bell as The Thing in Fantastic 4 rebootJustified Films has tweeted out our first real look at The Thing from the upcoming Fantastic 4 reboot film.

The picture shows a sculpture which is used as a reference point for the visual effects team to do their magic.

Take note that this may not be the final product and it should be assumed that what we will see on screen will be much more polished.

Still, in a movie that is riddled with so many production problems and such little support from the fans, I think this is a good step forward. In no way does it make me feel better about the other problems that I'm anxious about, such as the casting decisions of every single character, using Mole Man as a villain, basing it off the Ultimate Fantastic 4 (which I felt was underwhelming in more ways than one) and so on and so forth. However, it seems like the look of The Thing was another potential disaster that they have avoided.

What do you think about Ben Grimm here? Is it an improvement on the Tim Story films or does it not match up to the quality you were hoping for? Will Jamie Bell do a good job with the role or is the movie screwed?

Leave a comment below and fill us in on whether or not you're sold on this reboot.

DC Animated Batman vs Robin filmThe collaboration between DC and Warner Bros. for animated feature films revolving around Superman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League cast will be continuing in 2015 as two new films were announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2014.

These will be:

Justice League: Gods and Monsters — an original story written and directed by Bruce Timm

Batman VS. Robin — based at least partially on the Court of Owls characters and Scott Snyder's work on that arc, although that may not necessarily be the case and it may end up drawing inspiration from such titles as the one pictured on the right by Grant Morrison

The next two films in the DCUAOM (DC Universe Animated Original Movies—now you see the need for the acronym) are Batman: Assault on Arkham (scheduled for release on August 12, 2014) and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.

What are your thoughts on these animated films? Do they make up for the lack of progress DC has made with their live-action movie franchises? Which ones are you most excited about seeing?

Filmmaker Sam Raimi, appearing on a panel in Hall H at Comic-Con International as producer in the film adaption of The Last of Us video game, shocked the audience after revealing his next projectan Evil Dead TV series. One word: Groovy.

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are writing an Evil Dead TV show

The demon locked in the basement is out. The unexpected bombshell was dropped during an on-stage Q&A. Raimi didn't share any further details, other than he is currently writing the television show based on the iconic 1981 film with the help of Bruce Campbell (Ash) and his brother, Ted Raimi.

The 2013 remake of the Evil Dead, directed by Fede Alvarez, earned close to $98 million worldwide, according to the Box Office, though it included an entirely new cast of characters. With the TV series being based off the original film, it will be quite interesting to see in which direction it will go, and just how much Campbell will be involvedwhether by bringing back Ash or just writing.

SDCC '14: IDW Announces Garbage Pail Kids Comic Book

Posted by Unknown - Friday, July 25, 2014

Comic-Con Ron Garbage Pail Kids imagesWho remembers the Garbage Pail Kids? They were the little trading cards that featured clever rhymes and cabbage patch-looking kids such as Bony Joanie or Christina Ugliera. Comic-Con International announced IDW Publishing's newest venture, a Garbage Pail Kids comic book series.

"As a child of the Eighties, I was at ground zero for the Garbage Pail Kids phenomenon,” series editor Denton J. Tipton said. “The profoundly irreverent stickers spoke directly to the rascal inside each and every one of my classmates, and helped us drive our teachers to the brink of insanity. I couldn't be more happy to be working with some of the giants of alternative comics to push the buttons of an entirely new generation of educators, many of which likely remember when the poo-covered sneaker was on the other foot."

pics of Garbage Pail Kids charactersThe anthology-type release will feature various writers from across the industry. As part of the announcement, they have released an exclusive character named Comic-Con Ron, which was created by cartoonist Peter Bagge. SDCC '14 will also be featuring exclusive comic-themed apparel and trading cards.

I don't know about you, but these cards always gave me hours of giggle-fits that would brighten my day. I have a huge stack that my husband saved (hoarded) from his childhood and even my son has taken to the retro craze.

The series is set to launch in 2015, so there is still time to convince them to name a character after me. I'm sick of Bubbly Brianna.

Do you remember which Garbage Pail Kid had your name? Who was your favorite kid? Leave us a comment and keep checking back for the latest Comic-Con news.

Free Vampire Zombie Werewolf Poster
Hey comic heads. I'm thrilled to bring you my next big comic review from Second Sight Studios, because it's not every day that a title as unique as this dark action art book comes along. This one is for my vampire and zombie enthusiast readers. Whichever you are, I can tell this series will blow us away.

From the get go, it begins with an eerie awakening: a fireman. One of America's heroes finds himself in a hot and uncomfortable place. What is it? He unzips himself from the body bag and stumbles through the halls of the morgue. None of these facts really alarm him, or even flag his attention, because he has been through something that is making his mind hazy. There's only one thing on his mind... Food.

Free Dark Comic Books Reviews
The fireman, still hardly aware of his surroundings, stumbles into the street in search of his bank. Just a little withdrawal and he'll be maxing on some fries in no time, perhaps a meat of some kind, brain or buttock maybe. Who knows? Stumbling into the bank, he walks into a hold-up. What happens if you place one of America's great heroes in a room with gun-toters? Blood happens.

I realized I was enjoying myself before I really got that deep into the comic. I mean, it's not everyday that a comic begins with a guy waking up in a body bag. The art in this comic is on point. It was odd because it seemed anatomically correct, but still different from most comics that shoot for realism. The darkness adds an appeal that I can't explain and the introduction to the characters, though short lived, was awesome. This comic is so different from most comics in the genre that I felt like I was reading something entirely new, which is a treat when you've read as much material as I have. Definitely worth picking up. In fact, I'm literally waiting for the next comic in this series. Tell me what you think downstairs. Mixed Drinks

Game of Thrones is a show well-known for taking characters you've grown to love (or hate) and killing them mercilessly and gruesomely. "Valar morghulis," after all. The bad news for Marvel's Ant-Man film just keeps rolling in, as Deadline is reporting that the movie has lost three of its actors in Matt Gerard, Kevin Weisman, and Patrick Wilson. There is no confirmation that this is due to the Edgar Wright split, although it's pretty easy to speculate about that, isn't it?

cast of Marvel's Ant-Man Phase 3 film actors

I've previously gone on record of saying that I thought Ant-Man was doomed to begin with and that nothing has ever given me a reason to believe that it would succeed other than the test footage and the track record that Marvel has. This series of "scheduling conflicts" or whatever the case may be that has led to more dropouts is yet another point in the column of pessimism.

What do you think? Is Marvel just delaying the inevitable failure of Ant-Man or is this actually going to turn out to be a situation where this is all better for the movie in the long run?

Do you have any faith in the Phase 3 kickoff being successful? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Earlier today at San Diego Comic-Con, some interesting potential casting news for the movie adaptation of The Last of Us broke during the Screen Gems panel. Neil Druckman, co-director of the video game and writer of the movie's script, and Sam Raimi, a producer of the movie, took the stage to discuss the adaptation. There they revealed that Maisie Williams, better known as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, is in very serious talks to play Ellie. Nothing is set in stone, but apparently they just recently had a promising meeting with Williams, so this may very well happen.

I can see it. Courtesy of this IGN blog post.

Personally I'd be thrilled if it does happen, and just looking at that image makes me think it would be awesome. Maisie Williams has proven time and time again in Game of Thrones that she's quite a talented young actress who can handle intense material very well, and I really don't think there would be a better child actress for the role. Considering it seems to be a rite of passage for every British actor/actress to have a flawless American accent, I'm sure Williams could pull that off as well. I also have very high hopes for the movie in general since part of the deal is that Naughty Dog has final say over pretty much every creative decision. Let's hope that means this will be one of the few good video game movies!

What do you guys think? Are you excited for the movie, or do you think Hollywood should leave the game alone? Do you like this casting? Sound off in the comments below, and keep checking Fanboys Anonymous for the latest Comic-Con news!

News and Rumors about The Walking Dead Season 5 Comic Con CoverageWhat is up Fanboys and Fangirls? Chris "The Dace Man" Dace is back again, patrolling the Interwebs to get you the latest updates from this year's San Diego Comic Con. Earlier this afternoon AMC's The Walking Dead gathered its stars and producers in a panel hosted by the one and only Chris Hardwick (AMC's Talking Dead and Comedy Central's @Midnight). They talked about the season 4 finale and what lies on the horizon for the survivors we've come to love and watch each year! Here are the highlights that came out of the panel. Enjoy!

  • Chris Hardwick teases the fans that he visited the set 4 weeks prior to Comic Con and says right out of the gate the series will be intense, more so than it has ever been.
  • Scott Gimple (showrunner), Robert Kirkman (creator) and Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, and Greg Nicotero (executive producers) were present and there to kick off the panel with Hardwick.
  • They go on to tell the fans in attendance this season will cover "who the survivors have become after doing the unthinkable to stay alive," and the history of Terminus will be explained.
  • Kirkman goes on to explain the TV series will start to sync back up with the major comic events.
  • The panel says season 5 will see more suburban/urban areas than the previous seasons.
  • The Wire's Seth Gilliam will join the cast of The Walking Dead this season as Gabriel Stokes.
  • Nicotero has been experimenting with ways to make the walkers look different and expand the world of walkers in season 5.

Who makes up the top 10 anti-heroesHey Fanboys and Fangirls!

For my next list, I will discuss the top 10 antiheroes that made it from comic books to cartoons, TV shows, or movies. The list is based on 1 being the most-known and 10 being the least-known.

The tricky part of making this list was ordering these characters according to which were the most or least popular. The really difficult part was considering which of the antiheroes to add to the list and which ones to leave out. One example that I left out was Batman, because no matter what people might think or say, Batman is a hero!

What I consider to be an antihero is a character whose past is somewhat flawed and not so great. Because of this, the character always has a mysterious and evasive attitude toward people around him or her. For example, Superman wouldn't be an antihero, because he is a character with an epic story: his parents sent him from the planet of Krypton to the Earth but he was saved by the Kent family when he fell to Earth, so even though he is mysterious and disguises himself as Clark Kent, he became a hero, not an antihero. (Anyone who would like to argue against this can write in the comments section below!)

Instead of an epic story like Superman's, antiheroes have a sad, mysterious, and negative story. Their background usually involves their alter-ego; it's what makes them who they are, and it's how we understand what they fight for. For example, Wolverine's story begins with the murder of his father and the so-called "death" of his girlfriend and then continues with a change into his alter-ego. Logan becomes a new creature named Wolverine, the antihero (based on the movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

Another aspect of antiheroes is that they are never quite on one side—of good or evil—but rather are usually vigilantes, tending to be antisocial and keeping to themselves. They have their own principles and don't seem to care about what anybody else says. They do not commit to any rules. Still, most of them fight for good and the innocent, even if they do evil things in the process. For example, Rorschach, from the Watchmen believes in moral absolutism and objectivism, and he is determined to make the bad guys get what they deserve no matter what it means.

A final aspect of antiheroes is that they have strange and unique methods to get what they want. Unlike regular heroes, for example, the Punisher specifically uses special military-grade weaponry—along with other skills—to fight evil. Of course, there are many more examples but my choices of the top 10 ultimate antiheroes are listed below.

10. Joseph Dredd, aka Judge Dredd

Judge Dredd is an antihero because of—as his name says—his judgmental style. He is tough and distinct about his decisions against evil. As the story goes, he was one of the two clones of Chief Judge Fargo. Created by genetic scientist Morton Judd, Judge Dredd was created to "instill fear in the population." After having to arrest his clone brother, Rico Dredd, Judge Dredd was given the opportunity to become chief judge, but he declined. Instead, he preferred to serve on the streets, and so his story goes on.

9. Johnny Blaze, aka the Ghost Rider

Believe or not, there is actually more than one Ghost Rider, but the first and original Ghost Rider is Johnny Blaze. Overall, the Ghost Rider is considered an antihero due to his way of fighting against evil. Even though he does kill the "sinful" and "wicked," he still fights for the innocent. His flesh turns into flames whenever evil is around at nigh, and he thus blasts away enemies with hellfire.

The Ghostrider riding his motorcycle up in flames

8. Natasha Romanov, aka the Black Widow from the Avengers

The Black Widow was once on the side of evil. First she was a Russian spy, then she became the antagonist to Iron Man. From there she moved onto the agency S.H.I.E.L.D. and finally became a member of the Avengers. She is an antiheroine because she does anything in order to get what she wants. She even killed innocent people. This may make her more of a villain compared with the other characters on this list, but because of her background, her principles (or lack there of), and her style of fighting, she is an antiheroine.

Who is Natasha Romanov in the Avengers

7. Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman from the Batman series

Catwoman is an interesting comic character. She was first made in the 1950s as a supervillainess. This changed due to the Comics Code Authority of 1954. Changes were required as to how women were portrayed in comics. Soon enough, rather than an evil female antagonist, Catwoman became more of an antiheroine. First, she was a burglar, then she began fighting alongside Batman and Robin. So what makes her the antiheroine is that she does not fight for one specific side, good or evil, but she does fight for innocent people and does not stop in the face of evil.

What is the real name of Catwoman

6. Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk from the Avengers

Bruce Banner is a reclusive and withdrawn physicist, but, the Hulk is an extremely violent green giant. He is not like other characters because when he does become the Hulk, Bruce Banner usually does not have any control over his actions. The main reason he is an antihero is his violent behavior and stubborness to pursue evil. Unlike the others, however, he does not kill as many people.

Bruce Banner aka the Incredible Hulk

5. Eddie Brock, aka Venom from Spider-Man

Along with the fact that he loathes Spider-Man, Venom is an antihero due to his method of killing, which is similar to the Wolverine. He has no remorse when it comes to killing evil people. According to S.H.I.E.L.D., Venom is the most dangerous threat after Magneto, Doctor Doom, and Red Skull.

What is the name of Venom from Spiderman

4. Walter Kovacs, aka Rorschach from the Watchmen

Rorschach is mainly an antihero due to his principle of moral absolutism, in which he does not help out any criminal in trouble no matter what the situation. Like the Punisher, Wolverine, and Deathstroke, Rorschach has no problem killing people either. Born to a prostitute mother and a missing father named Charlie, as a kid Rorschach was taken to The Lillian Charlton Home for Problem Children. From then on, he excelled in many things, until one incident in his life that affected him very deeply. Then he became the antihero he is and began fighting evil. His style includes leaving the criminals to the police in a  bloodied state.

Rorschach from the Watchmen

3. Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke from the Arrow series

Even though Deathstroke was rated the 32nd greatest comic book villain of all time by IGN, he is also considered an antihero due to his siding with both the good and the evil sides. He tends to fight for both sides no matter what, and he kills anyone without regret. Originally part of the Teen Titans, Deathstroke was officially named the Terminator way before James Cameron's the Terminator series. He is unstoppable and kills people on demand.

2. Frank Castle, aka The Punisher

What makes the Punisher an antihero is the fact that he can kill or torture anyone without thinking about it. His main items of force are high-grade military weapons, but he also uses martial arts, guerrilla warfare, and stealth tactics.

The Punisher is armed and ready for action

1. James Logan Howlett, aka Wolverine from the X-Men

Wolverine is an antihero because he has the negative/pessimistic attitude that fits an antihero, and he has killed more people than anyone else on this list. Heroes don't go around just killing people, do they? If it wasn't for the X-Men, Wolverine probably wouldn't be the superhero/antihero he is because he does not have any boundaries and can do whatever he pleases.

Watch the X-Men series for free

When it comes to heroes, how would we ever recognize them if it wasn't for the antiheroes? Sometimes it's good to have opposites in the world to understand things/people for what/who they really are.

Hope you enjoyed my list! Did I miss someone? Do you disagree with my choices? Tell us below!

Poor Batman. He can't get anyone to swing with, can't get any ice cream, he's sad about his ears being small…the guy can't get a break! As Zack Snyder and the rest of his gang of misfits finish work on the next DC comics film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we are being fed a stream of new images of the Caped Crusader's new bat suit. Fun. I love me some Batfleck.

In case you've been living under a rock the last few months, Ben Affleck is the new Batman. You also should know all the flack the actor has taken as a result. Although I agree it seems like a poor choice, it's certainly not Affleck's fault. Would you pass up the chance to play one of the most vaulted superheros in history? Or pass up that kind of paycheck? No, you would not. In the meantime, though, it's very enjoyable to poke fun at him.

Sex Pecs Celebrity Chest Sexy Suit Superhero This new "Sad Batman" meme is one of my favorites. I hate when people take things so damn seriously, and Zack's new world is a prime example of this trend. It's all The Dark Knight's fault. That film had to go and make a billion dollars at the box office and make everyone at DC/Warner Bros. think they have to make everything dark and gritty, even when it doesn't fit the character (here's looking at you, Superman).

Whatever. I can't stop the trend. Hollywood will do whatever it is that makes them money, no matter how ill conceived the idea is in the first place. I don't blame them too much for jumping on what's hot and what makes money. It is a business, after all. Then again, it doesn't have to be so dreary and depressing either. We can have fun with it. I'm not saying it's time to go back to campy Batman, but it can go too far the other direction.

Man, no ice cream?!
So that's what I'm doing. If Snyder wants to go all gritty, then fine, I'll poke fun and have as many laughs at his expense as possible. The Joker would approve. Marvel has a totally different tone with their films. The Avengers was funny without being silly. The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy looks freaking hilarious. That first trailer made me laugh out loud several times. To me, this is what audiences want more than anything, to laugh and have a good time. You don't have to sacrifice pathos and gravitas by having a laugh or two.

It reminds me of another favorite meme:

So is everyone okay with Batman being so damn dark all the time or can we lighten things up yet? Who is ready to give poor Batman a hug?

SDCC '14: Thrillbent's 15-Second Pitch Contest

Posted by Marc Anthony Gonzalez

Think you have what it takes to sell your story to Mark Waid and Thrillbent?

Daredevil Kingdom Come Batman Superman Writer Artist Creator
Mark Waid is the founder of Thrillbent and a major proponent for digital comics.

Mark Waid held a contest for writers and artists to pitch their one-shot story at San Diego Comic Con 2014. The winning idea would be produced and paid for by Thrillbent. However, salespeople had a mere 15 seconds to orate their 30- to 40-page one-shot story. Any pitches exceeding the time limit were marked invalid. Did I mention no visual aids were allowed?

Thrillbent's press release for the event laid down a framework for judges' criteria. Contestants' ideas needed to work well visually and as a digital comic. Bonus points were awarded for stories shorter than 30 to 40 pages. Mark Waid also recommended that pitchers take note of digital comics' unique storytelling properties. Stories also needed to have a clear conflict and resolution.

Just reading about this contest stressed me out as a writer. My empathy and sympathy go out to creators struggling to condense their idea to a mere 15 seconds. Furthermore, Mark Waid warns that contestants must trust judges and audience members not to steal ideas.

I admire Mark Waid and Thrillbent for giving comic creators such an opportunity. However, as a writer myself, the chance to pitch a series or arc would have been more appealing. Fifteen seconds also does not leave any time for more than a few sentences to summarize the setting and story. Mark Waid notes the competition is a relatively last-minute endeavor, possibly in conjunction with another Think Tank event hosted by Thrillbent at Comic-Con. Nonetheless I am curious to see which story won and which ideas may have been close runners-up.

Although the contest was held yesterday, winners have not yet been announced. Would you have tried your luck at having your one-shot pitched to Mark Waid and staff? How do you feel about such contests? Let us know in the comments section what you think and what idea you would have tried to sell!

Well, Lucas Arts and Disney have revealed two exclusive clips from the upcoming Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels. Thursday marked the official first day of San Diego's infamous Comic-Con weekend. Here are my top six reveals from yesterday in no particular order.

CW Reign at SDCC 14 panel. Hot, sexy brunette in designer dress. Celebrity romance, on-screen hookups,

1. Adelaide Kane and Toby Regbo from the new hit CW show Reign revealed upcoming storylines for the new season. The real-life couple hinted at the possibility of an on-screen pregnancy between the royal couple and told us that the Bash love triangle is over. Producer Laurie McCarthy shared a few spoilers; she teased that "Not everyone will survive it, among our people as well as a percentage of the regional population." The fangirl inside of me is screaming, "Please don’t kill Bash!"

MTV's Teen Wolf at SDCC 14 panel. Hot actor embraces co-worker. smartwater and hugging.

2. Fans went crazy as Teen Wolf producers announced that the show was picked up for a 20-episode fifth season. Tyler Posey, Dylan O'Brien, Tyler Hoechlin, Holland Roden, Shelley Hennig, and Dylan Sprayberry were among the stars in attendance. Although I stopped watching the show after season 1, I am tempted to binge-watch 4 seasons just to catch up before the premiere.

Interstellar at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. Hot actors. Blonde actors.

3. Christopher Nolan made his first-ever appearance at the San Diego fan convention Thursday to show off his upcoming sci-fi epic Interstellar. The star of the film, Matthew McConaughey, was also in appearance to discuss the movie. Interstellar follows a group of astronauts who leave Earth behind after a drastic climate change in search of a more inhabitable planet for their race. Interstellar hits theaters on November 7th.

San Diego Comic-Con 2014 Mockingjay movie. Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games. Catching Fire

4. Take a look at this exclusive Mockingjay poster revealed during yesterday’s Comic-Con. This isn’t the only exclusive reveal for the movie. Attendees will also be the first to view the trailer at the Hard Rock CafĂ© today (Friday). Mockingjay hits theaters on November 21st. As far as literary fiction goes, Mockingjay was by far one of my least favorite books, so I hope they do a little bit more with the storyline. A happily ever after would be preferable…

Goosebump's movie panel at San Diego 2014. Comedic actor. Funny faces. Zombies and monsters

5. Jack Black was in attendance yesterday to promote his upcoming film based off the popular kids book series Goosebumps. "The idea behind the movie is, what if all of R.L. Stine’s creatures got loose?" said director Rob Letterman at a Comic-Con panel. "It's a great excuse for all our favorite creatures from the various books to get on the big screen." According to a casting call this past spring, I know the movie will include a bunch of zombies. Was I the only one who had nightmares about the dummy Slappy? Although the movie isn't due out until the Spring of 2015, I can't wait to see how they will spin it. My thoughts keep running to Jack Black's appearance in another popular book-to-movie franchise, The Neverending Story. Please let this be better than The Never Ending Story 3. Wasn't that the worst movie ever?

Yahoo Screens San Diego Comic-Con 2014 panel. Gillian Jacobs. Actors. Hot Actress. Sexy Joel McHale.

6. Even though the show was canceled last Spring, Community's dedicated fanbase was successfully able to relocate the show to Yahoo Screens. Executive producer Dan Harmon, producer Chris McKenna, and actors Gillian Jacobs, Joel McHale, Jim Rash, and Dino Stamatopoulos were in attendance to discuss the new direction of the show. What types of things came up? The show will still air in weekly installments; no, Pierce will not be returning; and a possible app may be created in the near future!
