The Walking Dead "Live Bait" Review & Synopsis

Posted by The Dace Man - Sunday, November 17, 2013

Who does the Governor Kill? The Dace Man is back to help you kick of this week with another Walking Dead review and synopsis!!  Can not believe we are already at episode six this season. We have dealt with this damn illness for long enough, and I am ready for some Walking Dead Season 3 Action!! Episode 5, titled "Internment," left us with the most awesome cliff hanger we have all been waiting for... The Governor is back!! That last minute of "Internment" was the most kick-ass minute of television this fall season. Tonight's episode will hopefully redeem the slow start and exile of Carol we've had to deal with this season thus far. What trouble will the Governor have in store for us? How will Daryl react to Rick kicking Carol from the group? Are the remaining prison squatters all healed now? All this and hopefully more on this week's The Walking Dead!!!!

THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 4 EPISODE 6: "LIVE BAIT"!!

This week's episode kicks off where we last saw the Governor leaving the people he massacred from Woodbury and fleeing. It then fast-forwards to him sitting by a fire watching a walker burn. The walker is then shot by one of his fellow runaways. We cut to the next morning, where we see the others have ran off leaving the Gov. all by himself. A song queues and we see the Governor driving through Woodbury and burning it to the ground. He has clearly snapped and we hear a voiceover of the Morrissey talking to a girl. He tells the girl the man in charge lost it and barely got out alive. We see him walking with a manly beard and long hair. He stumbles along a beaten man till he finds a family fortified. He kicks his weapons to them and queue the awesome intro.

When we cut back, we see that he is being grilled by the family, which is being extra cautious with him. He lies to them about his name and says he will only be staying the night. They bring him some food and he eats alone. Phil looks like a beaten man at this point who has lost his way and has completely snapped. We cut over to the family going about family business when he tries to return the plate. He is greeted with a barrel of a gun but is invited in anyway, still with a blank look on his face. As a writers note... the one girl is smoking hot, in my opinion, and I just found out her name is Tara. Tara is a hottie. They tell Phil their back story of how they ended up alive and together. Tara quips at the Governor, and he helps the old man on an oxygen tank to read. The old man does small chit-chatting with the Governor, and this entire time I'm waiting for the Governor to kill them all... he's going to do it, I just know it. The old man convinces him to get a backgammon table from an upper floor. I'm betting the Governor kills them all with a backgammon board. He acquires the game but decides to do some investigative work like the damn Batman, and finds the former tenant in the tub, where he stabs him in the head and he takes the gun. Off to the first commercial break of the show.

We return to find the Governor has successfully completed the Backgammon mission. We find him waking up, and a doggie bag and his gun being redelivered. He reveals he kept the gun he found upstairs and prepares to leave. He then explains that when killing a walker you need to get 'em in the brain. Then the family begs him to get an oxygen tank for the old man. For whatever reason, he agrees and makes his way to the hospital. This episode seems to be gearing to the fact he's not really a bad guy anymore, somewhat of the "you have to fall from grace to rebuild yourself" type scenario. The man tries to grab an entire cart, but only manages to escape with two canisters, and we're off to a Hunger Games promo... buy your tickets now.

Next we see the Governor dropping off the canisters and frantically retreating to his room he has taken. The woman who was not Tara is tending to Phil's wounds. This woman is clearly thirsty, telling him that the young girl Megan thought Phil was her dad. The girl enters, and the mom explains to the girl that "Brian" has a boo-boo. Way to water down this maniac, have him be watched by a five-year-old. Now it's time for the little girl to play twenty questions with the Governor. Then the shocking details are revealed that the Governor doesn't know what a pinky swear is. He jokingly tells the little girl he's a pirate, then explains that he was trying to help someone from getting hurt but he got hurt instead. And off to the third installment of commercials, where Jonah Hill has a creepy role in a new Scorsese film.

Continuing on with the episode revolving around the Governor, he is now clean-cut and clean-shaven, playing chess with the little girl Megan. Awww, bonding. Awww, the old guy died. Awww, Tara's crying. Oh shit... the old man's back. And the Governor saves the family in a very gruesome way only he knows how to do. We then see him digging a grave outside, and he buries the old man. They return to the apartment, to a girl who is now terrified of him. Tara understands why Phil did what he had to do and explains they are cool, engaging in the fist bump. Poor Megan, on the other hand, is clearly terrified. The Governor leaves, and we see him at night burning the picture of his family. He might be crying, but it's hard to tell with an eyepatch. He then decides to leave. We now see Lily—my attention to detail blows, but I just caught her name—begging "Bryan" a.k.a Phil a.k.a. the Governor to take them along, stating he's now stuck with them. Commercial!

Martinez and The Governor find a new group.Back, and Phil and family are on the road in a truck, heading where the roads take em. They stop and take a break, having a fire by a lake. Megan is still terrified of the Governor. The next scene sees them sleeping in the truck together. TOLD YOU LILY WAS THIRSTY!! She's getting all close to the Governor, and it's a one-way ticket to bang town!! Awkward as hell, though, with the others being in the truck... The truck dies and the crew hits the road on foot. Tara then twists her ankle, and Phil notices a herd of walkers. Megan decides not to move. It takes Phil a few minutes to convince Megan to jump in his arms, but they take off into the woods with the herd following him. They fall into a pit where the Governor destroys four walkers with his bare hands!! Somehow that gains Megan's trust. The man who finds them in the pit is none other than Martinez, his former right hand man and the man who left him at the beginning of the episode.  End scene. End episode.

For a Governor-centered episode, this episode kicked ass! It was nice to take a break from Rick and the group and the damn illness. So many questions still remain unanswered for next week. How will Martinez receive the Governor this time around? How's everyone in the Prison? What eventually leads the Governor back to the Prison? All that and more!

So see ya next week, walkers! As always, check back regularly to see what Chris "The Dace Man" Dace is looking at (and no, not just porn), as well as all of the other bloggers here at Fanboys Anonymous. Until then, for the few, the proud, and of course the Dacetacular, grab a beer—and in this case an eye patch—and check out what's going on here in the Dace-Sphere. See ya next time!

Read The Second Coming by Keith Fenwick on your Kindle or Nook device
The Second Coming by Keith Fenwick is a next-in-series title about several different people whose stories are in some way related, but if you are just coming in you don't quite know how. Sue and Bruce are normal, everyday Earthlings... mostly. Sue, who owns a travel agency, is somehow pregnant when she hasn't had a sexual partner in a very long time. Her best guess is immaculate conception.

Bruce, on the other hand, is a bit of a foul mouthed, rugged loner living off the land. He feels that something is missing—a chunk of his life, perhaps.

On the other hand, Mitch, a third Earth personality (and the United States President), was experiencing no abnormality in his life before a spaceship landed in an American military airplane hangar after a little airspace encroachment, battle, and chase. The alien flying that craft is Myfair, the happenstance ruler of a mostly unknown planet, Skid—the most advanced planet in the universe.

In the wake of a mind-blowing apocalypse on his planet caused by a malfunctioning computer intelligence charged with making Skidian life as easy as possible, Myfair was simply traversing the deep, not looking for anything in particular, when he accidentally stumbled upon Earth, violating American airspace and instigating a dogfight in the process. The skirmish caused him to lose control and scrape his ship across a range of mountains, forcing him to find a place to land. A secured military base is as good a place as any, wouldn't you think?

To you and me it would seem like an insanely stupid idea; but to an intelligent life form that considers us a pitifully ill-advanced, backwater planet that can be easily handled, an air of arrogance keeps their intelligent thought process from rendering an Earthling dangerous to a Skidian, or even worthy of note. This is why Myfair was just fine with parking in a military hangar and taking a Sunday stroll around, checking out American war planes. His lack of realization that there could in fact be danger on such an inconsequential planet is just the reason he runs into Bruce, Sue, and President Mitch, which begins their journey together.

As a critique, it takes a lot of reading to get to this point. It could have easily been a hundred or more pages shorter. In addition, some of the sexual description was weird, almost as though it hardly had a place in the book. I don't mean all of the sex in general, which was very little, but when it popped up unexpectedly—specifically from the main female character's perspective—it took me by surprise and seemingly without reason. On the upside, there are almost no instances of it. In fact, all such instances containing sex probably only amount to a single page, or less even. My final critique is that Bruce's mother added an almost irritating ingredient to the mixture that bothered me—not because it existed, but because it worked itself into this book so late. Perhaps Fenwick touches on this in the first book, which could make me wrong in thinking this was new, but it was bothersome none-the-less.

All in all though, I found the book quite fun, especially when I got to the meat of it. As the book follows Myfair and other Skidians and allows you to see what their arrogance and underestimation gets them into, it's hard not to laugh. Reading about the effect that Bruce and Mitch have on others is no different; it's quite comical, and some of the adventure and action made it so I had to keep reading on past my bed time. The Second Coming turned out to be a fun and funny read and I would recommend it to anyone that has the endurance for longer, slower adult science fiction novels.

Let me know what you think below.

The Ultimate Universe has been no stranger to destructive events during the course of its mere thirteen years of existence. Many of the Marvel apocalyptic staples have descended on this revamped world, including a tidal wave that threatened to destroy everything four years ago. The most recent event, however, seems to be the one that truly earns the term "cataclysmic." Although it has faced the Gah Lak Tus swarm before, it seems the Ultimate Universe may meet its end at the hands of the 616 Galactus, who has arrived on earth in Cataclysm: The Ultimates' Last Stand #1.

Galactus arrives in the Ultimate Universe in Cataclysm Ultimates' Last Stand 1

The issue, unlike most, doesn’t exactly start with a bang. There are two pages of nice banter between Ganke and Miles Morales, the new Ultimate Spider-Man, then there's a series of massive bangs. The banter is nice and gives the false impression that this may be the wind-up for a big event, but true to the cover, Galactus arrives in a double-page spread to silence your doubts and begin his destructive work on Earth.

The remainder of the book is a fast read with an even brisker story pace. Miles attempts to confront the giant-headed invader, but is overwhelmed by the literal and figurative enormity of his foe. While I’ve read other Galactus stories, I think this one does a great job of highlighting the scale of an invasion by a being like Galactus. The impossibly large Devourer of Worlds quickly overwhelms any emergency protocols the Ultimate Universe had in place, which immediately forces them to call in their big guns. The book is content with diving into the second attack and throwing everything it has at Galactus from the very get-go, which flaunts the advantage of the Ultimate Universe—nothing is sacred.

There’s an inherent safety net to the 616 universe. Sure, Peter Parker is dead, but things at large tend to revert back to normal. It seems like every summer a villain destroys Manhattan, only for everyone to move back into town and resume life as if nothing had happened. The Ultimate Universe has always been an offshoot, and it flaunts its disposability in big events like this. I have no idea if it's going to come out of this or if I’m watching the actual death of an entire superhero universe and, quite frankly, it’s a lot of fun.

The issue wraps up with Tony Stark realizing that not only is the menace from another universe, but he's come for everything. It was a quick issue, with all the action seeming to escalate with every turn of the page. Although there wasn’t much story depth, it certainly managed to set the tone for the issues to come. Months of speculation, along with the news that Miles Morales will be heading to the 616 universe, makes the Ultimate Universe's demise a very real and morbid possibility. Stay tuned to fanboysanonymous.com for our coverage of the Cataclysm event to see who, if any, of the Ultimate Heroes survive the new and improved Galactus.

While the development of a Preacher TV series has been speculated for quite some time, it became official today that Garth Ennis' legendary Vertigo series has received a pilot order from AMC.

Garth Ennis' Vertigo comic Preacher will get a pilot at AMCThe news of a new comic based series on AMC shouldn't come to much surprise. The Walking Dead has garnered continuously expanding success for the company and with long time staple Breaking Bad concluded it seems only natural for AMC to try and replace the successful show with something in a similar vain to one of their other powerhouses. Still, Preacher is a daring selection for cable.

Past rumors have speculated Preacher would head to HBO or another premium channel where it's graphic content and religious themes may be more comfortably depicted. Cable has seen a revolution over the last ten years, however, and while Preacher may still push the envelope it could now come as a welcomed confrontation to the norm.

Fans of the series should remain cautiously optimistic as Wonder Woman made it clear that a pilot is by no means an indication a show will ever be made. Stay tuned to fanboysanonymous.com for further developments on the project. Who would you like to see casted in the Preacher pilot. Take first dibs on speculation and give us your ideas in the comments section below.

Anyone who has played through the campy post-apocalyptic first person shooter Borderlands will have been entranced by the alluring hostess Mad Moxxi. The steampunk style mixed with foxy curves was a winning combo, and when thrown on the queen of cosplay it's my favourite character she's modeled.

Spoiler Alert: Five Ideas for the New 52 Stephanie Brown

Posted by Unknown - Saturday, November 16, 2013

Proponents to DC's New 52 line wide reboot have often used characters who did not survive the leap between the old universe and the canon reset as the center piece for their refutes. It came to the pleasant surprise of many, then, when DC announced recently the return of fan favorite, Stephanie Brown.

Previous Robin, Stephanie Brown, will return in Batman: Eternal

Stephanie's return has sparked quite a bit of speculation as her legacy in the old DCU encompassed appearances as several different characters. Most recently, Brown took on Gotham City as the new Batgirl in a run that lasted twenty-four issues prior to the reboot. Along side of Batgirl, her notable appearances include Spoiler and, though briefly, a tenure as Robin. Barbara Gordon's reprisal of the Batgirl role in the New 52 makes Stephanie's return both curious and exciting. Removing Barbara from her wheelchair was a bold move on DC's part and most likely means the Batgirl title won't be up for grabs any time soon. With so many roles, both new and old, to choose from, Stephanie's return will be anything but predictable. Here's my list of the top five personas I'd like to see Brown don in her return.

5. NIGHTWING

Barbara Gordon as a female Nightwing

This one may seem a bit over the top, but what's the point of speculating if you can't have a little fun? Dick Grayson, the current and chartering Nightwing, is alive, though not very well thanks to the Crime Syndicate. Although it may be said for many comics, I believe costumes and superhero personas aren't revered anywhere as much as in Gotham City. Batman and his family aren't heroes, they're symbols. The uniqueness of these personas, however, comes not in their effect on the city, but their place in the lives of those who don them. Dick Grayson and Tim Drake aren't Robin anymore because they don't need to be. The Batman Universe is a place where heroes don't have to move along the infamous sliding timeline of comics as slowly, thus allowing them to grow in profound ways. As such, I believe that the Nightwing role should become one of these rights of passage as much as being Robin is. Brown could, then, be an excellent candidate to lift the torch. It would allow Dick a chance to mentor someone in a way that's far more personal and Stephanie the challenge of embracing a role, but pioneering the development of it. I think the struggle to be a new, different, Nightwing could be more interesting than become a new hero, or one that's already been handed off before. Plus, I don't think the DCNU can ever have enough escrima sticks.

4. BAT KNIGHT DARK BIRD WING HOOD

Who will Stephanie Brown return as in batman: eternal

This one, to me, may be one of the more probable, though less exciting, choices. While the Bat Family has certainly found some welcomed additions over the years, I believe the Batman brand is a tempting one to extort and, consequently, cheapen. It takes more than a cowl and a bat logo to make a hero and I hope any new additions to the franchise come with serious planning and consideration. Anyone can make a super suit and become a hero in the world of comics. I believe the Bat Family should be a higher standard of hero that isn't joined lightly.

3. CATGIRL

Could Stephanie Brown be Catgirl in the New 52 Batman: Eternal

The New 52's early issues were made even more infamous after several shocking reveals, particularly the depiction of Batman and Catwoman having intercourse. The pair's bittersweet relationship has always been fun, which is why I think it reasonable that if Bruce wants to help Selina he may recommend she get a partner for the reasons having one helped save him. Cue Catgirl. Remember Catgirl? Kitrina Falcone first donned the costume pictured above in Batman 692 and aided Catwoman for several issues before retiring. While on the surface she may seem to be the classic partner that's simply a mini version of an established character I think the idea of giving an infamously unscrupulous character someone to mentor could be a lot of fun. Bruce's mentorship comes with the living conditions that go along with being one of the world's most wealthy individuals, a cave teeming with bat themed gadgets, and a butler. While that all sounds like a great deal, I can't say the comforts that go along with being a billionaire and one of the world's greatest heroes makes for the most tension. Partnering someone with Selina would challenge them emotionally on several levels and would force Selina to confront her often conflicted life choices. What better way to flush out that imbalance than by having her assist someone in finding their own direction?

2. SPOILER

Stephanie Brown may be spoiler in the New 52's Batman: Eternal

Spoiler, Brown's debut character, has a fairly sorted past. The role was originally created by Brown to assist the police and Batman in defeated her father, The Cluemaster which resulted in Spoiler's always being an accessory to other stories instead of her own leading lady. It should still be said, however, that this successfully navigates the issues I raised with simply slapping a bat on someone's chest in number four. Furthermore, the idea of a hero operating in Gotham outside of the direct Bat Family could open up a wider range of stories and help make both heroes and villains who have been through the same paces new again.

1. ORACLE

What role will Stephanie Brown take in Batman: Eternal

Barbara Gordon's return to the role of Batgirl sparked quite a bit of conversation. While many discussed what it would mean having her as Batgirl, I found few discussing the ramifications of losing Oracle. A computer wizard, Oracle's skills were highlighted in many stories, especially Battle for the Cowl, and showcased the need for the massive Bat Family to have a uniting factor. Having a strategic coordinating mind in the back drop only adds to the stealthy tactics that are a Batman trademark. I believe Stephanie would be perfect for the role. Youth is often associated with technical knowledge in the modern zeitgeist and I think the responsibility of delegating danger to infamous costumed heroes would be an interesting challenge for a largely unproven Brown. Furthermore, it's a nice way to stay in touch with the heavy hitters of the Bat Family without entirely depending on them. Being Oracle would allow Brown to stand among the big names of Gotham's heroes without being eclipsed by them.

After a lengthy hiatus, Stephanie Brown has finally been announced to to return in the third issue of Batman: Eternal this spring. How would you like to see Stephanie make her return? Sound off with your list in the comments section below.

The San Francisco area was saved today as BATKID came to the rescue. To fulfill his wish of being Batman for a day, the Make-A-Wish Foundation set up a spectacle for 5-year-old Miles Scott, who is in remission after being diagnosed with leukemia.

The request went viral and over 12,000 people got involved, including members of the police force and media outlets. The San Francisco Chronicle (dubbed the Gotham City Chronicle, of course) put out a special edition to go along with the festivities, which included a mock crime scene.

Rolling up in a Batmobile (driven by Batman, not Miles, of course), Batkid helped save a damsel in distress, foiled the plans of the Riddler and the Penguin, and was given the key to the city by Mayor Ed Lee, amongst other things.

It seems over-the-top and a little melodramatic to point out, but things like this really do speak volumes to the power of superheroes and how they affect the human spirit. We have so much horrible stuff going on in the world all the time, and in particular, the news media relishes this and predominantly showcases all the bad. But no matter how many bad apples there are, deep down, people are essentially good. Oftentimes, it just takes the proper motivation.

The superhero genre is often talking about the importance of symbols. "People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy," says Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins. Although they're fictional characters, their incredible popularity is not just because of how entertaining they are, but what they do to our hearts.

This is why "fanboys" exist. These characters mean something to us on a more complex level than simply being fun. They represent the ability to be incorruptible—the best that we can possibly be. They are not real, but the morals and the attitudes that they exhibit are, particularly to the young, impressionable minds of the children that follow them.

We argue about these things because we're so emotionally attached to them that we feel a sense of responsibility to honor what they mean to us. That's why we get upset if the characters are taken in directions that we feel don't live up to their purpose. This is why people get tattoos or name their kids after these characters, and argue how Superman and Batman should be symbols of hope or why Spider-Man can teach the shy kids that there's a life outside of being picked on.

Miles Scott has been dealt a heavy burden with his illness, but what is his wish? It isn't to hang out with a celebrity or to do anything that only he benefits from. It's to try to become someone who helps OTHER people. Whatever the future holds in store for Miles, he has already provided an admirable example of what the entire point of heroism is.

Batkid t-shirts are being sold with the proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For more information, call 415-982-9474 or visit www.SF.Wish.org.

Toon Up and Creep Out at Long Beach Comic & Horror Con, November 23–24

Posted by Michelle Quillen - Thursday, November 14, 2013

The Long Beach Comic & Horror Con (LBCHC) will be rearing its ugly head at the Long Beach Convention Center on November 23 and 24. Having recently announced a partnership with ComicVine, fans can expect the exclusive interview segment The Marshall Report to return with host Rick Marshall.

Comparable with IMDb.com, but for comics, ComicVine.com is "the largest database online featuring comic reviews, news, and forums." This platform, along with the multimedia talent of industry expert Rick Marshall, will push the LBCHC's presence to the milestone level it deserves now that the show is celebrating a 5th anniversary this year. Co-founder and sales director of LBCHC, Phil Lawrence, says the partnership with ComicVine.com "has all the makings of an epic team-up," and he can't wait to bring The Marshall Report to one of his favorite comic-book news sites. Lawrence adds, "The LBCHC team always manages to put together a fantastic lineup of guests, and this year is no exception."

Other projects by Kricfalusi include Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, singer Bjork's animated video for "I Miss You," and 2 Stupid Dogs. He will be there only on Saturday, November 23 to take drawing commissions and do caricatures of show attendees. Give the prolific voice actor and cartoonist a nod, handshake, or insult at From the Land Beyond's booth, #725. ESP Guitar Company will also be on the show floor in the company of LA Ink's Amy Nicoletto and Metal Hammer's 2013 Shredder of the Year Award Winner Eric Calderon, who will be performing live both days at the ESP booth, #307.

Embracing the horror front of the con, the company has announced that Bela Lugosi, Jr. (son of the actor who portrayed Count Dracula) will join them to do signings at their booth with a showcase of limited edition Bela Lugosi guitars on that Sunday, November 24.

The Marshall Report host and "freelance word jockey" Rick Marshall reprises Lawrence's sentiment regarding this year's lineup and the event's pop-culture seam bursting promises. "It's never been a better time to be a geek, and Long Beach Comic & Horror Con is a great reminder of that fact."

Fundraiser for Yuan Works' New Title on Indiegogo

Posted by Jeremy Kahn - Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Yuan Works' Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles was a standout indie title when released for the Dreamcast back in 2008, four years after SEGA discontinued their thinking machine. What made this game unique among all the other Dreamcast releases coming out from indie studios was the game's genre. Most games at the time, such as DUX, were shoot 'em ups. Wind & Water: Puzzle Battle broke this trend by delivering a fun, inventive puzzle game, putting a new twist on the columns format.

Fans have waited long for the next Yuan Works title, and finally something has been spotted on indiegogo.com by Siliconera. In the vein of Evoland, Yuan Works' new project looks to pay homage to video games over the decades.

new Yuan Works video game for IOS Android download

And thus, we've been working on GameStar. A game that tells a very particular story, about a modern-day full-3D character who, by accident or fate, has to wander into a mystical world, where ancient ruins of the “2D” civilization still exist. Where swords and sorcery replace guns and technology.
Younger players will experience a time in video game history that they may have missed, and veterans will go on a trip to hopefully relive and create new great memories! In the battle of the planets, which will prevail? The modern 3D world, or the ancient 2D culture?

You can score a digital download of the game for a $10 donation. As of now, Android and IOS seem to be the only confirmed platforms. However, it seems that other avenues are being considered depending upon the funds acquired. We could see this on the Ouya, the PC, and potentially even on consoles.

One nice thing about Yuan Works is how they interact with their fans. They constantly blog through the development of their games, showing fans progress as it's made. This behind-the-scenes blog is a great way to see what goes into the making of each of Yuan Works' games.

Before I wrap things up, have a listen to a sample track that will set the mood for the game.

You can really get a grasp at what type of game awaits with this sound clip.

If you're a fan of Yuan Works' previous outings and of Evoland, helping this project out is a must. Head over to http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/gamestar-project and show your support!

It shouldn't be funny, but no matter how I was going to write that title, it was going to seem insulting to some and hilarious to others. The 1990 Patrick Swayze/Demi Moore/Whoopi Goldberg paranormal sop-fest Ghost is now headed for television in series format.

1990 Patrick Swayze Ghost sex scene
Paramount is producing the show, which will be co-written by Akiva Goldsman (the award winning guy that ruins movie adaptations of novels like I Am Legend and I, Robot) and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe).

Ghost actor patrick swayze dies of cancer 2009
Now this could be me overreacting, or it could be you overreacting by telling me I'm overreacting—providing you're overreacting at all—but the question "Is it TOO SOON???" springs to mind, as it still only seems like yesterday that the late Patrick Swayze succumbed to cancer. (Let's not forget the cruel Ghost jokes that followed.) But that's not what's really bothering me about this bright idea Paramount is owning up to. This could come across as an insult to Swayze's legacy, or it could just sweep him aside after exploiting that legacy, making way for some other wannabe heartthrob douchebag.

Ghost actor patrick swayze replaced for ghost television series
"Me, a pussy magnet? Aww shucks!"
A lot of people could laugh this off, and it's probably for the best, but Swayze did produce some really enjoyable films in the '80s that even the guys could appreciate. He made his action movie debut in the massively underrated redemptive Vietnam POW action drama Uncommon Valor, and continued in that vein with Red Dawn and Road House. Swayze then became a massive hit with the ladies with Dirty Dancing and Ghost, before alcoholism and a life-threatening injury destroyed his career.

But as Sam in Ghost, Swayze no doubt provided the best performance of his lifetime. Seeing this re-enacted in endless remakes that are beginning to eat up television airtime—as well as box office space—is going to come off as a bit insensitive, to say the least, leaving us to ask once again, "Hey, Hollywood, is nothing sacred in the face of money?"

Fanboys Anonymous will keep you updated should any creepy dark shadows drag Goldsman and Pinkner away kicking and screaming!

Welcome, Fanboys, what's goin' on? Dan Ashley here with another juicy, mouth-watering prime cut of entertainment stipulation, and I'd like more fans of The Walking Dead to start asking what many of us have already been asking for a long time…

Who will be playing Negan by the time that murderously happy psychopath rears his ugly head?

The Walking Dead Glen Death Scene
As pleasant and well-mannered a psychotic tyrant as you could ever want!
I've been trawling the Internet looking for a sign, a glimpse, a hint, at the very least some flat-out wishful thinking. So far, all I've come across is the latter. And you know what?
Italian Chef It Sucks humour meme
For reasons that come down to how the series has chosen its talent thus far, there are three ways writer Scott Gimple can see to this. One is that he can take his pick from any number of faithful Frank Darabont actor favourites—whoops, maybe not, it appears he just sent the last of them away at the end of the most recent episode, "Indifference..."

Well, there are still effectively three ways he can do this:

One—the same way Darabont picked up Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker—he can take his pick from an army of all-time B-movie and horror acting favourites that Walking Dead fans are bound to know and love already.

Two, he takes his pick from the crop of proven British actors. Andrew Lincoln proved successful as Rick Grimes, as did David Morrissey as the Governor. Why stop there?

Or three, he uses some common sense, watches some award-winning television, keeps up with pop culture (actual culture, not whomever Bieber is currently offending with his baby-faced ignorance), then gives the right talent a chance, thus giving fans a truly unforgettable lead bad guy.

Now I'm just rambling. So to shut me up sooner rather than later, here are five actors that should seriously be considered for the part of Negan in The Walking Dead:

5.) RAY STEVENSON
GI Joe Retaliation Fireflt villain actor Ray Stevenson

Ray Stevenson has many excellent U.S. film and television credits under his belt and in quite a considerably short space of time, considering he only started getting noticed across the pond after his lead role in the much maligned Punisher: War Zone. However, the way he went from that to the unrelentingly spooky Outpost and the comical Thor to The Book of Eli, The Other Guys, and Dexter, and with his great range and energy, you wouldn't think that the guy kicking the Rock's ass in GI Joe: Retaliation is pushing 50 years old. As Isaac Sirko in Dexter, Stevenson was Dexter's greatest match. Yet as stone cold and confident as he was, you couldn't help but be infatuated with the character, knowing that much more than just a killer lay beneath the surface. Stevenson loves his horror and sci-fi; he gets heavily involved in learning new stunts for his action scenes; and he also loves a deep character with a few twists. I think he'd make a great Negan, and would enjoy wielding Lucille…perhaps a little too much?!

4.) ALAN VAN SPRANG
Canadian horror actor Alan Van Sprang promotional photo
"…because you'd tell me if my hair was messy, right?"
Hear me out here, folks. Canadian Alan Van Sprang is a veteran of film and television who's been going since the mid-nineties. You may remember that he's featured in three George Romero zombie movies (not one, not two, but THREE): Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. He's also featured in Saw III and that nasty, gritty Ray Liotta cop drama Narc. He can command screen presence, loves getting into character, knows the drill of zombie movie action scenes, and have you not seen that stir-crazy gleam in his eyes? An unlikely choice, yes. But a good one? Yes!

3.) BILL BURR
Breaking Bad actor and comedian Bill Burr portrait photo

There are many instances in film history in which nobody could scare an audience quite like a comedian. I guess that's what makes Batman's Joker such an iconic psychopath. For clowns at least, you also have Tim Curry's turn as Pennywise in Stephen King's IT. Bill Burr, however, is already scary as hell when it comes to his stand-up and Monday Morning Podcasts. The guy admits to having huge issues, and it's both true and a huge part of his routine. So I wondered: what had Bill brought to film and television so far? It turns out, he's been making a name for himself already. Apart from playing Kuby in Breaking Bad, he's also recently featured in Stand Up Guys, The Heat, and Date Night. He's also working on a new project titled… Zombeavers! But what is it? When I watch his videos and listen to his podcasts and read the insane filth spouting from Negan's mouth, why do I see Bill Burr in biker leather, swinging a baseball bat wound with barbed wire and terrorising the shit out of Camp Grimes? Bill Burr might only have limited acting experience, but he just might have that edge The Walking Dead will be looking for!

2.) THOMAS JANE
Punisher Hung actor Thomas Jane villain role in Walking Dead

Award-winning B-movie, drama, and action star Thomas Jane has just about everything The Walking Dead could want and need. To back up that cocky statement, I point out that from day one Jane was the man Frank Darabont wanted for the role of Rick Grimes. Because he was then working on HBO's Hung, Jane couldn't take on the role, but he still expressed a great desire to join the show at a later date—AS A BAD GUY! There's a massive hint that Scott Gimple should already be on the phone to Jane asking him to get a haircut and get back to training like he did when he bagged the role of Mickey Mantle in 2001. But when has Thomas Jane ever played the bad guy, you might ask? You'd be surprised. Although he hasn't done much in that category since the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie and The Crow: City of Angels, his "good" characters often have a rotten or antisocial demeanor to them that plants them firmly in antihero territory. What do you say we give him a little push to the other side?

"FFS it's not difficult, we have tomato soup or chicken…"

1.) HENRY ROLLINS
Sons of Anarchy actor comedian and singer Henry Rollins Walking Dead Negan
Fact: Henry Rollins could turn Medusa to stone.
My own personal choice for Negan, and reading straight from the comics, Henry Rollins is the guy that would best personify the instability, rage, flat-out nastiness, and inherent evil that is this all-life-ending leather-clad lunatic. Henry Rollins has the look, the anger, the tense and unstable calm, and the humour. He also has decades of acting experience—Sons of Anarchy, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Teen Titans, The Devil's Tomb, Bad Boys II, Johnny Mnemonic, The Chase, Heat—and the undeniable ability to scare The Walking Dead's audience shitless, especially if his adaptational character is as demented as the comic book version. Seriously, if I were Gimple, I'd buy up the hundred-odd issues of existing comics and personally post them to Henry with a note, reading something like: "Drop your life, you start next month!"

That is my countdown of who should play Negan in The Walking Dead. Add your comments and suggestions below! Thanks for reading. Here is some bonus Rollins with a Walking Dead reference caption, for your enjoyment:

If, like me, you own a Wii U and an Xbox 360, you're probably wondering what the differences are between Call of Duty: Ghosts on the two platforms. So I went ahead and bought both versions of the game, because I'm that sad—and so that I could present my findings and give an in-depth review, which I personally see as unbiased as I am a loyal fan of both companies.

Campaign

For me, this is where you get your money's worth. The story is very well written; it sucks you in and sends you into an American wasteland. It's the story of Logan Walker and his brother David "Hesh" Walker. It begins with Logan, Hesh, Riley the dog, and your dad out in the woods talking about Mom and the legend that is the famous Ghost Squad. The next minute, the earth begins to shake and you think its an earthquake, but it's not. It is a weaponized satellite up in space that destroys America and turns it into a wasteland. I will leave the story there; always leave them wanting more, I say.

On to the actual review. I thought some parts of the story was great. You get to drive a tank and a helicopter. I would have liked to see more of these types of these missions. There are also hidden files to collect. On the hardest difficulty, it took me about six or seven hours to complete, which is pretty standard nowadays. The campaigns on the Wii U and the Xbox are identical, but I played the campaign on the Wii U because I wanted to watch The Hobbit at the same time.

Let's Play Call of Duty Ghost review
Multi-player

Where do I begin? CoD points are back, and if you don't know what CoD points are, they're points you can spend to unlocking guns and perks. There are a total of 15 maps on the Wii U, and 16 on the Xbox if you have the Free Fall edition. With the Wii U version of the game, you get every multi-player game mode the 360 has, apart from Clan Battles. In addition, some new modes and old favourites have returned. These are:

Team Death Match (old)

Do I really have to explain this one?

Cranked (new)

Like TDM, but once you kill an opposing team member, you have 30 seconds to kill your next target.

Blitz (new)

Enter the opposing teams base to earn points.

Search And Rescue (new)

Like Search and Destroy, but with dog tags. If your teammate grabs your tag, you respawn. If an opposing team takes your tag, you are dead till the next round. This is my game of choice when I am with my clan on the Xbox.

Infected (new)

Just like the Halo mode.

Kill Confirmed (old)

Like TDM, but with dog tags. Whichever team collects the most tags wins.

Domination (old)

Whichever team can capture and hold three flags the longest wins.

Hunted (new)

Players start with limited gear and take control of drop zones to get better stuff. (Sounds like fun.)

Free for All (old)

Again, do I have to explain this one?

Team Tactical (new)

4v4.

Ghost Moshpit (New)
Mixed playlist of the following: Blitz, Domination, and Search and Rescue.

If you are like me and can't stand core multiplayer, there is a hardcore mode which consists of three modes. Yep, three modes. [shakes head in disappointment] They are:

Hardcore TDM

Hardcore KC

Hardcore S&R

There is no Zombie mode, but there is a new mode called Extinction. This is like Zombie mode, but with aliens, and with only one map at this time.

Download Call of duty ghost torrentAnd finally, my thoughts on multiplayer. It is very lacklustre. It just feels stale.

I don't know whether I'm bored with the Call of Duty franchise at this point. But if I had to choose between the 360 or the Wii U version, I would have to go with the Wii U just because of the split screen on the GamePad—where one player has the telly and the other person uses the GamePad—which makes its return here. Granted, I have my friends on Xbox Live, but nothing beats having them round and sitting on the couch getting drunk and playing in the same room.

Graphics/Gameplay

For me, the Wii U 's graphics edge out the 360's. I don't know why, but for me the game looks crisper and lighter on the Wii U, whereas on the 360, everything looks brown and grey and a lot darker. Hopefully with the video provided below, you can see the difference in quality, but to the naked eye the Wii U looks a lot like Black Ops II, whereas the 360 looks like CoD4.

As for gameplay, if you have ever played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, you will be right at home with this version of the game. That is, until they nerf the weapons with an update. Also, instead of the dolphin dive, you do a knee power slide (very rock & roll).

Summary

In my personal opinion, the Nintendo Wii U version is my version of choice. Granted, with the 360 version you get more DLC and a much bigger community, but the reason why I would pick the Wii U is due to the second screen. They don't do much with the screen, but when I have a friend over or if my brother wants to play, then the second screen comes into play via split screen. My friends or my brother can have the main screen and I have the GamePad screen without the screen being split into two small rectangles as seen in the video above. Also, for me this game is just worth the single player. I don't know if it's because I'm bored of the franchise at this point. Leave me a comment below if you agree or disagree with my comments.

In a brief interview with Cinéfilos, Mexican film director Guillermo Del Toro stated that Warner Bros. has a big plan for the DC Universe. The revelation came as an answer to a question about the status of Justice League Dark. His response: "We're still still on it, and writing, and hopefully it will happen. But there's no developments that are new. It's still at Warner Bros. They are making plans for the entire DC Universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They're planing on TV, movies, all the media, so we have to fit within that plan."

The WB has owned DC since 1969, yet has done nothing with it. There's a glimmer of hope that they have some sort of idea on expanding their universe and that Batman vs Superman may be the start of this.

So hold tight, DC fans, as there's still hope!

News of WonderCon's return to Anaheim, CA in April 2014 hit the web today, and as a long-time (albeit not quite a veteran) attendee, I am not happy with the news. This will be the third year the West Coast Comic-Con junior convention has been hosted in the SoCal city, which means it could very well be the third long year I've been without my precious WonderCon fix.

Book tickets and hotels now for WonderCon 2014 in Anaheim, CA!

WonderCon is something special and personal to this Silicon Valley con-goer. My dad—a veteran con-goer who used to airbrush tees at the local conventions and even at WonderCon back when it was still in Oakland—introduced me to the convention experience through WonderCon, and attending it every year after had been a cherished tradition of ours. It goes without saying that I also enjoy being surrounded by like-minded geeks at WonderCon. So while it's great that WonderCon is booming more and more each year, especially after the move to Anaheim, it's not so great that my favorite convention is no longer a hop and skip away.

Yeah, yeah, I get that this seems like a moot point because of the distance and effort that out-of-state people have to endure to attend the convention, but my issue is how big and seemingly inaccessible my favorite convention has become. I've never attended San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) due to distance and costs (and inconvenience, as my parents' anniversary happens to fall around the same weekend, and I like to attend these kinds of things with my dad), but I've been okay with this, because SDCC feels just too big and far away for me. WonderCon was the mini-SDCC that I could always reach, and it never felt too big for me. The last time I went, I might have complained about how much bigger the attendance had been—overcrowding and the near-impossibility of casual panel attendance were issues—but I was able to adapt as the years went on. Now the convention feels just as inaccessible and big as SDCC. So where does that leave me, living as I do all the way back up in Silicon Valley? Big Wow Comicfest didn't wow me, and FanimeCon just doesn't hold my interest.

Make your own free Rage Comics at ragemaker.net

Every year, it feels more and more as though San Francisco just doesn't want WonderCon back. Granted, the first time the convention moved to Anaheim it was in response to renovations of its long-time home, the Moscone Center. This year and next, however, Moscone didn't and won't play host to the expanding comic and multimedia convention due to "scheduling issues." If the large, money-spending crowds attending the convention don't interest San Francisco and Moscone enough to allow the convention some wiggle room, perhaps Anaheim will become its new home as of 2014, especially given the convention's close proximity to Los Angeles.

I guess the alternative—no WonderCon at all—would be the least preferable, but I want my convention back in San Francisco, dammit! The Moscone Center and its surrounding facilities can handle the convention's attendance expansion, especially with all of the possible revenue to be had from out-of-towners. SDCC has always been a SoCal mainstay, so WonderCon should remain a NorCal one.

What are your thoughts on the deal? Is this just local ranting or a valid point? Will you be attending WonderCon in Anaheim next year? Leave a comment below!
