As part of THE BLUEPRINT PROJECT—where Anthony Mango seeks to take the entire history of every adaptation of a series and condense it into the gold standard bible version of the story with as many references as possible—one of the biggest adaptations is focused on THE MIGHTY MORPHIN' POWER RANGERS.

This Power Rangers Blueprint is dubbed ABSOLUTE POWER RANGERS: A MIGHTY MORPHIN' EPIC and is a 14 part series (12 feature films and 2 short films) telling the full story of the dawn of time and the backstory of Zordon, Rita and Lord Zedd as well as the fight against evil starring our core team of Tommy the Green Ranger/White Ranger, Jason the Red Ranger, Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Billy the Blue Ranger, Trini the Yellow Ranger and Zack the Black Ranger.

Check out this pitch video detailing some of the project in the hopes that Hasbro will be interested in producing this adaptation, and if you are fond of this concept, please help get more eyes on it by sharing this on social media, message boards, Reddit, Facebook, Twitter and more!

After watching The Super Mario Bros. Movie the other day, I'm already excited to see a potential sequel down the line. Given the success of Sonic the Hedgehog and its sequel, as well as Pokemon: Detective Pikachu—while they're far from Oscar-caliber films—I think the video game movie code is finally starting to be cracked and I would like this to continue.

Much like with Sonic, after walking away from the first movie, I immediately started thinking about sequel ideas. What should happen in a second and potentially third movie to round up a trilogy? What would I do if brought onto the writing team?

Welcome to another edition of FANBOYS FOLLOW-UP—a segment where I take a film or TV show and expand on where I'd like to see the story go from there.

I did a round of this for Sonic the Hedgehog. Some of those ideas for #2 and #3 were actually dead on, while others were nowhere near close to what they decided to do. So before we get any information on potential storylines for a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I'd like to toss out my pitches.

Note: I'd like to preface my pitches with the knowledge that I'm nowhere near as versed in Mario lore as I am other things that I apply to my Blueprint Project. Ask me about the most minor characters in Batman, Spider-Man and such, and I can bore you with great detail. But when it comes to Mario, most of my core fandom was established in the NES and SNES days. I played my fair share of Super Mario 64, Mario Kart, Mario Party and so on, but I from Super Mario Sunshine onward, I'm not as well-versed. As far as film and television media, I watched the cartoon with Captain Lou Albano back in the day as a kid (and even did a FanTracks of that, as well as the Morton Jankel Cut of Super Mario Bros) but I am by no means the foremost authoritarian expert on the franchise.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2

Clearly, based on the end credits scene, we need to focus on Yoshi. That was going to be the case no matter what. You can't go two of these films without Yoshi being a prominent character. C'mon.

But Yoshi in and of himself is not able to sustain a film. We obviously need more plot than "Hey! Yoshi!"

Our core cast has to return (ie, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad and Bowser; ideally with at least a cameo from Donkey Kong, but I wouldn't be opposed to him taking a back seat in favor of his own film). After all, we do need some time to focus on Yoshi, so DK could get in the way of that.

I also think we need to bring Daisy into the mix here. Let's bump up that female representation and give Luigi his girlfriend.

Yoshi's Island should be explored here, and may be the best location that is in danger of an attack. By who? Well, I think you could go in a number of directions, but in my ideal scenario, to keep it simpler, we keep Bowser the primary antagonist, but add two more to the mix.

Sequels sometimes work best if you keep everything the same from before, but just tweak it. Other times, you need to add more on top of it to freshen up the dynamic and up the ante. And I think the easiest way to do that is to introduce Wario and Waluigi.

Since the events of the first film, Mario and Luigi are super popular. Brooklyn loves them. The Mushroom Kingdom loves them. They're in a total opposite situation from the first movie. And all of this love and support has led to Wario and Waluigi becoming jealous and wanting revenge.

They come across the shrunken Bowser and decide to forge an alliance. When they let him out and hit him, he obviously regrows to his normal size and the trio are ready to take down The Super Mario Bros and friends.

We've already done the star, but I'm sure there are other McGuffins in Yoshi's Island we can get into for that element of the plot.

Obviously, at the end of the movie, all is well, and the heroes triumph. But I'd also set up a third film where things can get even more expansive.

Other things we need to see in this movie:

  1. Chain Chomp
  2. A bit where Luigi's in a haunted mansion and he does the little back-and-forth with a Boo, where he looks at it and it doesn't move, and when he turns his back, it starts coming after him
  3. A Goomba gets squashed
  4. Birdo
  5. Thwomp
  6. Buzzy Beetle
  7. Hammer Bro / Boomerang Bro / Sledge Brother
  8. Lakitu
  9. Big Bertha
  10. Blargg
  11. Chargin' Chuck
  12. Wiggler
  13. Reznor
  14. Monty Mole
  15. That damn Angry Sun that divebombs you, and the pyramid sand world vibe in general. Toss in Pokey and other characters like that.
  16. Maybe Wart can cameo and some other characters like Mouser, even if it's a dream Mario is having (like the game itself)
  17. Bowser's castle and ship in more detail
  18. Maybe we can get some references to Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Dr. Mario and other extracurricular activities (pitch: Wario and Waluigi are complaining that they're getting endorsements EVERYWHERE these days, and Mario is even a doctor now? What the?! He doesn't even have a degree!)

At the end of this story, tease the audience with either Rosalina or Bowser Jr...or both.

Donkey Kong Country Movie

In the meantime from this movie, we should absolutely get a spin-off focusing entirely on the Donkey Kong franchise. Considering the popularity of the title, I'd say to just go with calling it Donkey Kong Country or Donkey Kong: The Movie or something along those lines.

Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad should cameo in this (or, at least Mario), but shouldn't be more than just in a scene or two. This is DK's time to shine.

I wasn't a fan of Fred Armisen's voice for Cranky Kong whatsoever. He's extremely talented, but I just didn't think that voice fit that character. Regardless, Cranky is an absolute must for a major supporting character.

Diddy Kong is the primary sidekick, though. Dixie Kong is a must, too. And if I remember correctly, Chunky Kong was there in the film, right? Or was that Kiddy Kong? I've never liked either of them, but I do think there's room for a lot of other Kong cameos. We also need to see more Funky Kong as maybe the Q to DK's James Bond (that's a sentence I didn't think I'd ever write) and maybe Candy Kong as the love interest, but not as a HUGE part of the story. I don't think fans would be outraged if she was kept to a damsel in distress or something. It's not like we have to carve out a big section of the movie to fit Tiny Kong or Lanky Kong. Who even likes them?

This plot is straightforward and very similar to Mario's first film, but without the heavy lifting of needing to explain the world as much. King K. Rool and his minions invade the island, screw up the banana supply, try to take over, and it is up to Donkey Kong and his misfit friends to save the day.

You need to start with King K. Rool and the Kremlings rather than go straight into the Tiki Tak Tribe or the villains from Tropical Freeze. Those can be potential sequels for a second and third film, if you aren't making your own creation.

Gauntlet outline this. Go through the first few games and write down every villain you come across; every unlockable; every side character and environment. Let's see Donkey Kong on Rambi at the very least, if not also Expresso and Enguarde and others. Those are my top three favorites, but Squawks would be easy to implement, Winky is up there and I think with a big animated world, you can at least show quick cameos of Rattly, Squitter, Ellie and so on.

You need the minecarts. That's basically your Mario Kart chase sequence of the film.

Dumb Drum and Gnawty and Necky and such would need to pop up as villains. They could get a good "scary scene" out of those Rockkroc guys.

Aquatic Ambience and other tracks would be amazing with a full orchestra performing a suite medley.

If you're feeling really ambitious, throw in a cameo to set up a Banjo-Kazooie spin-off, but that isn't necessary (especially not for this first film).

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 3

Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings would be too much to cram into the second film, and there wouldn't be enough time to explain how Bowser gets free from captivity and has Bowser Jr without a time jump, which should only happen between the second and third films.

I could see this going in one of two ways, or a possible merger if you can find a way to incorporate both stories in one. Frankly, I'm not well-versed enough in the source material to pull that off right now with my initial thoughts. I'd have to do more research. But I bet playing Super Mario Galaxy and a few other games one time would be sufficient.

The long and short of this is that we have our Mario/Peach, Luigi/Daisy, Toad/Yoshi (as in, comedic foils, not romantic interests) squad, and they can explore the galaxy. Rosalina can be involved as the plot-sparking character who explains all of what is going on and prompts them to go into outer space, where they face villains like Tatanga.

But I do think you need Bowser Jr. in there, and I'd argue the Koopalings should be in there, too. The same for Boom Boom, who doesn't get any love, and can be a sacrificial lamb.

From my perspective, those are the big villains you need to hit on for a three-film story: Bowser, Wario and Waluigi, Tatanga, and Bowser Jr and the Koopalings, with some cameos from smaller villains like Wart and obviously, the regular enemies you come across in the games. With a little more research and some production guidelines as far as which toys were selling the most, what test audiences had to say about the first film and what Nintendo's input would be (if they wanted to make a brand new character or something), I think it would be rather easy to map out these extra films.

And if you're listening, Illumination / Nintendo, and you want me to do that, you know how to reach me via the contact page and plenty other methods!

Let's save talking about doing the Super Smash Bros film in Avengers style with setting up Legend of Zelda and Kirby movies and such for another post.

How to End & Reboot Marvel Cinematic Universe With Avengers: Secret Wars

Posted by Anthony Mango - Wednesday, March 1, 2023

I, like many others, am convinced the game plan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is to have a reset coming to the full scope of the franchise with the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars film.

This post will act as sort of a combination of Predicting the Plot, fan theories, fan fiction, a pitch and an editorial all wrapped in one.

My prediction, as well as what I would probably do in this scenario, is that we'll see Avengers: The Kang Dynasty wreck everything with incursions similar to how Avengers: Infinity War ended with the downer snap. Kang will win, irreparably sending the multiverse out of whack. Our heroes will not know what to do. This is way above their pay grade, as the Thanos incident was the most catastrophic thing that has ever happened, and this is even worse.

Whether Secret Wars is split in two movies or not—and I think it will be—we'll see either film #1 or at least the first good portion of the solo film as Battleworld. The Beyonder version of Kang will be the manipulator, playing around with different versions of our heroes. We'll see cameos from people like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, maybe Ben Affleck's Daredevil and most predominantly, the X-Men actors we've seen before. Probably a mix of the older and younger crew, since I doubt they'd want to single out just one or the other. But if they have to pick, they'll pick the James Marsden side of it, rather than the Tye Sheridan.

The MCU can get a whole film out of Avengers: Secret Wars - Battleworld as its own crazy film. Then, Avengers: Secret Wars - Part 2 (whatever they'd call it; maybe Brave New World or Time Runs Out or something) will focus on as many heroes as possible from across the multiverse coming together to stop The Beyonder Kang and restore some sort of balance.

How they do that, I don't know. We've already had some characters play their big hero moments. Doctor Strange orchestrated the 1 in 14,000,605 plan, Scott Lang spark the time travel, Thor chop off Thanos's head, Natasha Romanoff sacrifice herself for the Soul Stone, Hulk snap to bring people back, and Tony Stark snap to destroy Thanos and his army. I don't think they're going to make this all come out to be that Monica Rambeau or Peter Parker or any one person in particular is going to be the one to save the day. Not even Wanda Maximoff, but I'm sure she'll help.

For now, let's just say Steve Rogers hasn't been confirmed as passing away because the game plan is to have him—the man out of time who went back into the past in a branched timeline to restore the Infinity Stones, and could easily have a story where he's Nomad going through time and all, and was The First Avenger—is the one to save the day.

Somehow, in some fashion, the heroes win, but it comes at a cost. The multiverse is forever changed. There is no way of restoring it exactly the way it was. But in some ways, that's okay. This is the natural order of things, to be reset once in a while, and in doing so, they'll make room for all new stories to be told and blah blah blah.

Here's where we get to the fun fan fiction part. This is how I would showcase that:

Whatever contraption they use to pull this off to hit the reset button, the lever gets pulled or the button gets pushed, etc. Then, we watch as the characters all get distorted, as if they're being erased by a pencil, almost. We should also see at least the most important gods as characters by now. The Living Tribunal is a must, along with Eternity, Infinity, Death/Oblivion/Entropy (I don't know why they are 3 separate things) and so on. We don't need to see Lord Chaos and Master Order, for instance.

Everything goes to black.

Silence.

Now, there are 3 different ideas I have of what you can do following this. All 3 work in my mind, and it would be a matter of preference and what you can do legally.

Idea #1 - The Simplest Option

While the screen is black, Stan Lee's voice says EXCELSIOR. And then BOOM. A new Big Bang happens on screen, swirling different universes around as we see The First Firmament and some cosmic entities and abstracts all being created, along with galaxies, planets, civilizations and so forth until it flashes to the absolute finale (found below).

Idea #2 - The More Complicated, but Still Relatively Easy Option

The black screen slowly but surely fades something into view: a bar. There is a bartender there, glowing in blue. Wiping down the counter, the bartender addresses the camera, breaking the fourth wall, directly talking to the viewer.

This character, aka The Fulcrum is played by Kevin Feige and is representing The One Above All—the true omnipotent god of Marvel. He thanks everyone for their love and support of the MCU over the nearly 20 years this series has gone on. And while this is indeed the end of an era, and these actors are not going to be playing these parts anymore (mostly, I'd assume), that doesn't mean Marvel has run out of stories to tell.

He won't reveal exactly what is coming up next, but it will be...well...marvelous. Stay tuned.

Maybe he snaps his fingers or something, but he does something to indicate the start of a rebirth. We see the same idea of the Big Bang and everything restarting, leading to the absolute finale.

Idea #3 - The Nearly Impossible Option, But My Favorite Idea

The black screen fades into the bar scene. This time, the blue bartender isn't just played by Kevin Feige. Instead, he's a composite. We see a blue glowing figure that can transform between a CGI model of Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and of course, Feige. Maybe we can throw in Steve Ditko, John Romita and the other major contributors to these characters over the years, but that's likely pushing it, as would probably even Louis D'Esposito, but he should get some credit for all his work, too. He's never mentioned.

The point would be that this character, The Fulcrum, would be revealed as the embodiment of the creators of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It isn't just Kevin Feige, but his collaboration with the writers and producers and all that have come before him and worked alongside him and so on.

But he would reveal (in his speech that I mentioned above) that he is merely a portion of The One Above All and not the entirety. I've always liked Jack Kirby being depicted as an aspect of TOAA where he redraws The Thing and Reed Richards with his pencil to fix them up and such. But you see, the true absolute pinnacle zenith indisputable overlord of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in full, is not just the creators, but also the fans. You, watching, are part of The One Above All. It is through this connection between story creators and the ones watching the stories that we have this sandbox to play around in. And by no means is that going to end just because this chapter is coming to a close.

Same deal as the other speech, in a lot of ways. The future of the MCU is about to begin. Stan Lee's version of this says EXCELSIOR and snaps. We get the Big Bang and lead into the absolute finale.

The Absolute Finale and the Start of a New Chapter

All of these ideas all lead to the same place, pretty much. We've watched the multiverse reestablish itself, and we can see that there are variants all over the place, new rules are being written, and we're shown some very specific, but still vague, details about this new version of what we're getting going forward.

By that, I mean we see that the X-Men and mutants have been a part of this universe the entire time. Likely, we're in the present day, which means Captain America has already been unfrozen and we know he's had some history with Wolverine and whatnot. Maybe The Avengers is already established, depending on how far they want to reset things. If they've already cast people for future movies, we can see them show up in some fashion, but if not, we can just see some shadowy figures that we can definitely recognize, like that there is definitely a Hulk, a Thor, etc.

Depending on how you want to proceed going forward dictates which characters can show up and how, but I think no matter what, you need to show New York City. That has always been the heart of the Marvel Universe. It is where a good portion of the heroes reside, where Avengers Tower is, and so on.

In my ideal scenario, Tom Holland is still going to be Peter Parker going forward, Spider-Man will be integral to the MCU and not involved in Sony anymore, etc. That's probably unlikely, but let's just play with that for now. You can play into this in any number of ways.

Ideally, Peter Parker is on the street in New York. He looks at a Daily Bugle paper that has a piece about J. Jonah Jameson calling Spider-Man a menace. Peter sighs. "Oh man. What am I gonna do?"

A bystander next to him puts his hand on Peter's shoulder. There is no spidey sense, of course. The camera pans and it is The Fulcrum, in Stan Lee form (again, I'm convinced they have the CGI to pull this off and the ability to do it legally). He says "Face front, true believer." He smiles and walks away.

The camera pans up and into the sky. The universe is familiar, but anew, with endless possibilities, and we're just getting started.

Cut to black for the title card of Avengers: Secret Wars. But you have to end with the words THE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE CONTINUES.

I toyed with the idea of having everything with the whole Fulcrum character be a mid-credit or post-credit scene to allude to how much fun we've had with those, but I think it is too important for people to see this as part of the actual movie's resolution.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know if there is a post-credit scene I can think of that would end the movie on a better note. But I'm certainly down to try thinking of one.

My first idea would be to tease the next big bad already if we're sticking to the phases concept and they have that planned out. Who that could be, I have no idea, as once you've done this multiversal reset, you can't get any bigger. Maybe it could just be some views of some of the characters going forward, like some generic teases of X-Men, new versions of Captain America and Iron Man, etc. Maybe they could get away with having it end with Franklin Richards, since I've always viewed him as the sort of heir-apparent to the Marvel Universe in many ways. Maybe it can just end with someone saying "Avengers, assemble" or maybe you just don't have one this time around.

This acts as a true, definitive end to many of those stories, combines everything together from all the films we've ever seen, and allows Disney the option to continue with characters, actors, and stories in any way they please.

What do you think? Do you have any other ideas or suggestions? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!

Batman is a franchise that has been around for nearly 100 years. It is almost impossible to watch all the films and every episode of the television series, as well as read all the comics at this point.

But what if someone were to condense all that—combine as many big and little details as possible and form the most cohesive outline of the Bruce Wayne character ever created—all in just 100 stories?

That is the goal of THE BATMAN BLUEPRINT—one of many parts of THE BLUEPRINT PROJECT created by Anthony Mango.

The official name of this Batman series is THE BATMAN: A KNIGHT-TIME STORY which will consist of 10 volumes of story arcs that tell the most comprehensive version of Batman by mixing elements from everything that has come before.

Big stories like A Death in the Family and The Long Halloween are adapted with original stories and new twists. The entire Bat Family is represented, as well as every villain and supporting character imaginable, whether they're crucial to the overall series like Alfred Pennyworth or extremely minor like Nick and Eddie from the beginning of Tim Burton's Batman 89.

This concept is huge, so here is a pitch video to explain what this is all about:

RIP William Hurt: Pitch for Thunderbolt Ross's Future in the MCU

Posted by Anthony Mango - Monday, March 14, 2022

The Marvel Cinematic Universe and the acting community as a whole lost William Hurt this week at the age of 71.

Within this geek culture living space, immediately, I saw the reaction of "What are they going to do about General Ross in the MCU? Is there still going to be a Thunderbolts without William Hurt? Will they recast?"

I am far from a Hulk specialist or an authority on comics, so take what I say with a grain of salt as someone who is more on the "above average, but not an expert" level, but here are my general thoughts of what I think should and will happen with the future of the MCU in regards to General Thunderbolt Ross.

Recast or Retire?

Whenever there is a situation like this, one question is always whether or not they should just recast the part. I'm of the opinion that there is no definitive yes/no that applies to all scenarios, and you have to take each one in a case-by-case basis.

If the actor is still around, I think it's almost a guarantee you should just recast. For instance, Edward Norton's replacement with Mark Ruffalo for Bruce Banner. If the actor has passed away, it's a little trickier.

It may be controversial, but I've always been an advocate of recasting T'challa for Black Panther, rather than trying to figure out a way around that. Then again, I'm not the type of person who should be passing judgment, for a multitude of reasons.

But in this scenario, I don't think Thunderbolt Ross should be recast. That's because it's much easier to retire the character than it is to change Black Panther and undo that character development.

With Ross, while he's integral to maintaining continuity in the MCU, I think his character has had enough growth and can be replaced with other similar parts.

How Do You Move On?

We don't know yet what capacity Ross figured into She-Hulk or any other projects going forward. Only Marvel knows that right now. So without knowing that information and having the benefit of hindsight, we can only speculate.

My prediction is that he was going to be in She-Hulk, but only as a minor character to be an overseer of the Hulk lineage in general. He has history with all parties and would be invested in the potential of a "new Hulk" being created.

I do not think he was going to be Red Hulk. We'll address that in a bit.

If this wasn't already the plan, I think part of the story for She-Hulk should be that people are experimenting on Banner's DNA and still not learning the lessons that attempting to recreate the Super Soldier serum is going to end in disaster. While something will happen to Jennifer Walters that will result in her getting a blood transfusion or whatever the case that triggers her transformation, plenty other people won't be as lucky.

Here's what I would do, and what I think (in some form) and what I hope Marvel is doing.

General Ross is an overseer of these projects on behalf of the government, but he's not directly-directly involved. As in, he's not in the same position he was in The Incredible Hulk, but he still has an investment, as the government will always want to have some sort of weapon like this in their control. His attempt was Blonsky, and we'll see Abomination. We might even see The Leader as a consultant. Hopefully, Rick Jones is there (and maybe even a primary love interest?) but that's deviating from the focus here of Ross.

His replacement as the true overseer of this project should be General John Ryker, who can be conducting experiments on a number of poor souls. Someone in the project should be Dr. Geoffrey Crawford (Ravage). Two unfortunate volunteers for the trials who end up failed monsters are Dennis Sykes and Private Benjamin "Benny" Tibbets, aka Flux.

But the ultimate goal is to get us to...

Red Hulk

Thunderbolt Ross doesn't need to be Red Hulk. I know he was in the comics, but he doesn't need to be in the MCU. Some elements of the MCU are just flat out different, for better or worse. I'm personally much more of a fan of Ultron being a Tony Stark invention than anything related to Hank Pym, and I hated the fake Mandarin twist, for examples of both scenarios.

Red Hulk can be a number of other people instead of Ross, but I think our best candidates are two-fold: General Robert L. Maverick and Glenn Talbot.

I'd lean more toward Maverick. He actually does go by Red Hulk in the comics and he's a new character that hasn't been brought into the mix. As a general, he can be "trusted" to undergo the procedure to become Red Hulk and work with the government, so that makes sense.

Talbot is an option, but he's a little trickier. We've seen him before in the Ang Lee film and in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which hasn't been canonized, but might be. I don't think it will, for the record. I think they'll write that off as being a variant universe where there could be crossovers and some of the same continuity might have happened, but the bulk of it isn't, so that the MCU proper isn't beholden to aspects of the show. We've seen a different Darkhold already, we'll see a different Ghost Rider and so on, but if they ever want to incorporate FitzSimmons to get the audience to pop, they can.

Talbot can work well if he's also tied to Walters in some fashion. He tends to work well as a character who can be a romantic rival of sorts, and since Bruce and Jennifer obviously are related and won't be having that kind of dynamic, Talbot could be more so a romantic interest for her who turns bad.

If not just because Maverick actually was Red Hulk in the comics, though, I'd go for him.

The Thunderbolts

Finally, at the end of this, we should end up with a Thunderbolts team and show or movie. But how does that happen without Thunderbolt Ross?

Simple. The team is named in honor of him, with him having started the project.

Think of it like S.H.I.E.L.D. being partially named in honor of Steve Rogers and the Captain America shield. It can be said that Ross was responsible for creating this division that would lead into this team, so they've decided to name them The Thunderbolts in his name after he's passed away.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine should be the leader of this unit. She's already established as filling a similar role, the audience knows her, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a big name actress who can help draw attention to the show or film. She already has a history with John Walker, who should definitely be on the team, and it's the easiest transition possible.

RIP William Hurt

Game Plan: DC Ultimate Alliance Video Game Concept

Posted by Anthony Mango - Wednesday, October 14, 2020

Welcome to the first edition of Fanboys Anonymous GAME PLAN, where we take a film, television show or any kind of inspiration and we try to design a video game concept about it.

For the debut, I wanted to go with something on the simpler side in that we already have a template to work around and just need to adapt it in a different way. I knew just the idea, too.

Even as a casual gamer at best, I really enjoyed the first two Marvel: Ultimate Alliance video games and had always wondered what a DC version of it would be. What characters would you be able to select from? What locations would it span? Which villains would you fight?

Thus, I present to you...

THE DC: ULTIMATE ALLIANCE VIDEO GAME

DC Ultimate Alliance game

WHAT IS THE TITLE?

Obviously, the title of the game would simply be DC: Ultimate Alliance, if we were going with a direct equivalent. However, assuming DC were to make a game that's as close as possible to this, but not be able to get the rights or want to deal with any trademark/copyright issues, let's think of something else.

I'll spoil some of the story here and say that this isn't going to have parallel dimensions in it, so I'm not going with Crisis on Infinite Earths as its name. That's the sequel, much like how Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was the Civil War story.

There are a few ideas I think could work, but they should all revolve around either DC Universe or Justice League. Here are some suggestions that all sound quite similar, so you get the idea:

  • DC Justice League United
  • DC United: Justice League War
  • DC: Justice League Crusades
  • DC: Justice League Crisis War

My favorite of the bunch is probably DC United: Justice League War. I think you could subtitle the follow-ups as DC United: Crisis on Infinite Earths and such. But this title goes with the theme of this first introduction game and story.

WHAT IS THE STORY?

Simplicity is key. That's why Marvel's first Ultimate Alliance game worked so well. It had tons of characters to pick from, lots of locations, a ridiculous amount of cameos and references, but a simple enough "fight the bad guys who are teaming up against the heroes" plot at its core. Even when it got confusing why Galactus was involved with Loki and Dr. Doom and all, it boiled down to just stopping the villains from taking over the universe.

The same should apply here, and we all know who should be behind this whole thing: The Legion of Doom.

Here's the overall pitch of the story in its raw form, without all the specifics:

The story opens with several cities under attack from a White Martian invasion. We play through the beginning level as different heroes, so we see Superman fighting them off in Metropolis, Batman fighting them in Gotham, etc. As this intro level progresses, Martian Manhunter gets everyone together to stop the invasion and they decide to form the Justice League (and there is a "super friends" joke in there, of course).

Cut to one year later, or a time skip somewhere along those lines. We have a group of our "core founding members" who had formed the Justice League: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter. They discuss how the White Martian invasion got not only them to form their own super group, but that other unions have been forming. There are bigger factions as well as smaller cells of villains who are now teaming together and such. It's not just the Bat Family anymore, as there is an Injustice League of some villain, they know the government has Project Cadmus and Checkmate as well as so-called Suicide Squad (officially Task Force X), Lex Luthor has created Infinity Inc to form the "Everyman Project", Bruce Wayne's public response is OMAC and Brother Eye spearheaded by Maxwell Lord, etc. They've even been hearing rumblings about a so-called Legion of Doom super group they need to be prepared for.

The Justice League has been doing recruitment procedures over time and has expanded its roster to dozens of different subgroups. For example, Dick Grayson is the leader of the Young Justice group called Teen Titans, because he's not only the most trained and best for the job, but he's able to connect with the youth and maintain their innocence.

Ultimately, what this boils down to is that Lex Luthor is working in coalition with Brainiac, Vandal Savage, Ra's al Ghul and several others as an Illuminati-like group called The Light to create the Legion of Doom and connect all their resources so they can take down the Justice League and control the universe. Darkseid is probably not in this group as he's far too dangerous. But we get a general game out of missions where your team has to investigate different attacks on locations, stolen artifacts/weapons, stop military takeovers, etc, just like Ultimate Alliance, with The Light being extinguished (at least for now) and the universe being saved.

LOCATIONS

Throughout the game, different levels take place on different cities, worlds and major DC landmarks, including, but not limited to:

Hero Bases of Operations:

  • Watchtower satellite
  • Hall of Justice
  • Happy Harbor and Mount Justice / Secret Sanctuary
  • Titans Tower
  • Bat Cave

  • Flash Museum
  • Oa / Mogo
  • The Quiver (I hate the Arrowcave name)
  • Tower of Fate

Other Locations:

  • Belle Reve
  • Blackhawk Island
  • Midway City
  • Central City / Keystone City - Iron Heights
  • Gotham City = the city itself, Ace/Axis Chemicals, Amusement Mile, Arkham Asylum, Blackgate
  • Nanda Parbat
  • Metropolis = Daily Planet, Stryker's Island, Suicide Slum
  • Warworld
  • Hall of Doom
  • Star City
  • Coast City
  • Peña Duro in Santa Prisca
  • Slabside Island
  • Apokolips
  • Blüdhaven

You get the picture.

WEAPONS / ARTIFACTS

Some of the weapons or artifacts that are being stolen throughout the game so the Legion of Doom and other sects can amass power are things like the following:

  • Book of Destiny
  • Helmet of Nabu
  • Kryptonite
  • Miraclo
  • Mother Boxes
  • Phantom Zone Projector
  • Spear of Destiny

Transportation between levels for the Justice League is done through Zeta Beam or Boom Tube technology.

VILLAINS

You need to have enemies to fight. Not only would there be generic criminals, robots and so forth, there would also be named characters spread out, just like there is in MUA.

Groups:

  • Brainiac robots (my preference is that Brainiac is the Brain Interactive Construct version, not the green alien)
  • Checkmate
  • Court of Owls
  • Darkseid's forces including parademons, Granny Goodness with the Female Furies, Kalibak, Steppenwolf, etc. Desaad would be in it, but you wouldn't fight him, necessarily.
  • Fatal Five
  • Fearsome Five
  • Flash's Rogues Gallery
  • Gorilla Grodd and his forces
  • H.I.V.E.
  • Injustice League
  • Intergang with Bruno Mannheim, Morgan Edge, Whisper A'Daire, etc
  • Joker will have a whole circus of clowns and subordinate types like Rag Doll and Professor Pyg's Dollotrons and such
  • League of Assassins (I prefer the League of Shadows name, personally)
  • Legion of Doom
  • Leviathan (maybe)
  • Lexcorp robots and Infinity Inc
  • Manchester Black and The Elite
  • Manhunters
  • Nuclear Family (maybe)
  • OMAC and Brother Eye under Maxwell Lord's control
  • Roulette's underground fighting group
  • Royal Flush Gang
  • Task Force X / Suicide Squad
  • The Ultimen (manufactured superheroes from Cadmus)
  • White Martians
  • Yellow Lantern Corps (as well as possibly the Red Lanterns and so on, but maybe there isn't enough room for them in this game)

Boss Fights:

  • AMAZO
  • Bane
  • Bizarro or Cyborg Superman (no need to have both as a boss fight)
  • Black Adam
  • Black Manta with Ocean Master
  • Black Racer
  • Brainiac
  • Brother Eye
  • Deathstroke
  • Doomsday
  • Eclipso
  • General Zod
  • Gorilla Grodd
  • Joker with Harley Quinn
  • Lex Luthor in his kryptonite suit
  • Libra
  • Lobo
  • Mister Mxyzptlk
  • Mongul
  • Nekron and Black Hand
  • Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins
  • Reverse Flash / Zoom
  • Sinestro
  • Some kind of mystical threat (Morgaine le Fey, Mordru, Klarion, Enchantress, etc)
  • Starro
  • Trigon
  • Vandal Savage

Other Random Villains (not the big boss of a level, but still could be solo or working together):

  • Atomic Skull
  • Black Beetle
  • Black Spider
  • Blockbuster
  • Brain and Monsier Mallah
  • Captain Boomerang
  • Captain Cold
  • Cheetah
  • Chemo
  • Cheshire
  • Circe
  • Clayface
  • Clock King
  • Cluemaster
  • Copperhead
  • Count Vertigo
  • Deadshot
  • Despero
  • Despero
  • Doctor Light
  • Doctor Polaris
  • Doctor Sivana
  • Electrocutioner
  • Evil Star
  • Felix Faust
  • Firefly and Firebug
  • Gentleman Ghost
  • Giganta
  • Goldface
  • Killer Croc
  • Killer Frost
  • Killer Moth
  • King Shark
  • Livewire
  • Mad Hatter
  • Major Force (partnered with General Wade Eiling)
  • Metallo
  • Mirror Master
  • Mr. Freeze
  • Onomatopoeia (how fun would this be in the game?)
  • Parasite
  • Poison Ivy
  • Prometheus
  • Psimon
  • Riddler
  • Scarecrow maybe teaming with Doctor Destiny
  • Shade
  • Silver Banshee
  • Solomon Grundy
  • Sportsmaster
  • T.O. Morrow
  • Tattooed Man
  • Terror Twins
  • The Key
  • Toyman
  • Trigger Twins
  • Turtle (a super easy fight)
  • Ultra-Humanite and Titano the Super Ape
  • Weather Wizard

You'd think that would cover everyone, since this list is huge, but I'm still leaving out TONS of people.

PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

In an ideal world, we have TONS of characters to pick from, but not everyone can be chosen. You'll find plenty of names in the next section as cameos instead. Still, I wanted to incorporate as many as I could consider reasonable.

To help keep things organized, I've grouped characters into some different factions. Obviously, Batman belongs in the Bat Family, but since he's a core hero, you want to put him in there above everything else. Keep that in mind and don't think that I'm ignoring their ties to all the different units.

Also, naturally, every character would have a few alternate skins you could download. Superman would have the Electric Superman form, the black suit with the mullet, etc.

Characters in italics are ones that could potentially be cut if there were too many to pick from. Every character not in italics would HAVE to be in the game as far as I'm concerned.

Founding Core:

  • Superman
  • Batman
  • Wonder Woman
  • The Flash (Barry Allen)
  • Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
  • Aquaman
  • Martian Manhunter

Batman Family:

  • Nightwing (blue is default; alt costumes are red version, the feathery blue and yellow outfit and a Robin suit)
  • Robin (Tim Drake - I'd prefer Damian, but I want DC to let Tim become Flamebird. I don't like the Red Robin name. So let's keep Damian out of this game for now)
  • Batgirl (Barbara Gordon)
  • Red Hood
  • Catwoman
  • Huntress
  • Batwoman / Orphan / Spoiler (I like Stephanie and Cassandra, but they're not necessities. To be honest, I don't like Batwoman at all and think she's a pointlessly derivative lame character).

Justice League's Other Members:

  • Black Canary
  • Booster Gold
  • Captain Atom
  • Firestorm
  • Green Arrow
  • Hawkwoman / Hawkgirl
  • Hawkman
  • Plastic Man / Elongated Man
  • Shazam aka Captain Marvel
  • Vixen
  • Zatanna

Green Lantern Corps:

  • Guy Gardner
  • Jessica Cruz
  • John Stewart
  • Kyle Rayner
  • Simon Baz
  • Note: They probably would act all the same and just be different skins of the Hal Jordan character with some slightly different constructs, so it likely wouldn't be too hard to incorporate all of them. Alan Scott is saved for the sequel game.

Outsiders:

  • Black Lightning
  • Katana
  • Metamorpho

Superman Family:

  • Steel
  • Superboy (black shirt and jeans is default, 90s look is an alt skin)
  • Supergirl (Power Girl is an alt skin)

Teen Titans:

  • Artemis / Tigress
  • Arsenal (Red Arrow works, but Speedy is a dumb name)
  • Aqualad / Tempest
  • Beast Boy
  • Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes)
  • Cyborg
  • Kid Flash (Wally West) or Impulse (Bart Allen) or my preference, having it be Impulse as a name and design but the Wally West character under the mask - could just be alt skins of Barry, though
  • Miss Martian (could just be an alt skin of J'onn)
  • Raven
  • Starfire
  • Wonder Girl (could just be alt skins for Diana that are Donna Troy and Cassie Sandsmark)

I say that's a pretty healthy crop of characters to pick from. The likelihood all of these would be available would be slim, so some would probably have to be cut from the lineup.

SUPPORTING NON-PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

It's impossible to be able to play as every character out there. The game designers couldn't possibly make enough variations for it to be worthwhile, it's too much programming work and it wouldn't be worth it for the smaller characters.

However, that doesn't mean they can't still pop up as NPCs, right? Marvel Ultimate Alliance had cameo characters in supporting roles as people to talk to on missions, interactions at the base of operations and so on. That's what we're doing here.

  • ARGUS
  • Adam Strange
  • Alfred Pennyworth and Lucius Fox
  • Animal Man
  • Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya
  • Dan Turpin and Maggie Sawyer
  • Doom Patrol
  • Dr. Fate (just too powerful)
  • Etrigan
  • Fire and Ice
  • Green Lantern Corps = Extra members of the GLC including the Guardians
  • Hawk and Dove = Hank Hall and probably Dawn Granger (I prefer that group with Don having died already)
  • Justice League Dark = Constantine, Deadman, Swamp Thing, etc
  • Legion of Super-Heroes
  • Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen
  • Marvel Family = Mary Marvel and such
  • Mera
  • Mr. Terrific
  • New Gods = Big Barda, Forager, Highfather, Lightray, Orion, Mister Miracle
  • Red Tornado Family = Red Tornado, Red Inferno, Red Torpedo and Red Volcano
  • S.T.A.R. Labs (Emil Hamilton and such)
  • Spectre
  • Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E.
  • Ted Kord
  • The Atom (too hard to figure out how to incorporate his powers as a playable method)
  • The Metal Men
  • The Question
  • Waverider (only to set up the sequel game as a post-credit tease)
  • Wildcat (trainer for the tutorial)

WHAT IS DC ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2?

Just for the sake of explaining the thing I teased multiple times, here's a short explanation of the sequel game.

At the very end in a post-credit sequence, Waverider would show up and there would be all sorts of signs pointing toward a multiversal problem with different parallel earths crossing over.

Hypertime would be involved in this. That means we can incorporate some characters we didn't touch on in game #1, such as the Crime Syndicate/Justice Lords, the Anti-Monitor, Gog, Krona, Imperiex, Chronos, Solaris the Tyrant Sun, Superboy Prime with Alexander Luthor, Hal Jordan doing the whole Parallax and Spectre thing, and even Watchmen and Authority, maybe.

The game could include going to different alternate dimensions as well as the past and the future. You could see Jonah Hex in the past during a wild west level. You could team up with the Justice Society of America's Alan Scott and Jay Garrick.

At the end, the Anti-Monitor would be stopped and it would set up a third game, but I'm not sure what would be the best story for that one. After all, the first game isn't even real, let alone the second!

What do you think? What would your pitch be for a DC Ultimate Alliance game?

What Hammer Should Beta Ray Bill Use Instead of Stormbreaker in the MCU?

Posted by Anthony Mango - Tuesday, June 9, 2020

This is a random topic that I've wanted to get around to since Avengers: Infinity War came out, but it still remains open for discussion: since Thor was given a hammer/axe combo that was dubbed Stormbreaker, what hammer should Beta Ray Bill use if he ever appears for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The way I see it, they have three options, with some variables within them.

Beta Ray Bill Marvel Cinematic Universe
Beta Ray Bill pictured with Stormbreaker, which looks nothing like the one in the MCU, of course.

Option 1 - Stormbreaker

The MCU is no stranger to changing comics continuity. Sometimes, it's for the better (in my opinion) with things like Tony Stark being the one to create Ultron. Other times, it's a mistake, like their first attempt at The Mandarin.

Some people are adamant that Beta Ray Bill still gets Stormbreaker, even though it wouldn't make a lot of sense for Thor to go back to "the little one" in Mjolnir for multiple reasons—not the least of which is that it was supposedly restored back to its original timeline by Captain America at the conclusion of Endgame.

But maybe Bill gets a version of Stormbreaker from another universe/dimension. It seems that's where a lot of these other movies are heading with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Wandavision, so what if that's their excuse?

Maybe he doesn't even have a name for his weapon and they play Bill off as goofy in a sense like they like to make most of their characters. After he hears that Thor calls his weapon that name, he likes the name and adopts it for himself, despite Thor protesting that he can't do that, as that's his axe's name.

Or maybe Thor ends up with another weapon and passes Stormbreaker onto Bill. I don't think that's the best option, but it could theoretically happen.

Option 2 - Jarnbjorn

Just as they took the name Stormbreaker and applied it to a different weapon, why not do the same with another?

Jarnbjorn is an axe Thor wields from time to time. It's purely an axe, though, without the hammer side.

Of course, that's just in the comics. But in the comics, Ghost isn't the daughter of Egghead and an Ant-Man villain, nor was Ego the Living Planet the father of Star-Lord. Things change.

The likelihood that they'll ever spend time having Chris Hemsworth as Thor wielding just a pure axe like Jarnbjorn is so low that they could get away with using that name for Beta Ray Bill's weapon and only the die-hard fans would notice. Casuals certainly wouldn't have an idea who Bill is to begin with, let alone the discrepancies about the weaponry. Hell, most people can't even pronounce Mjolnir and just call it "Thor's hammer" anyway.

Option 3 - Thunderstrike

One thing I'm disappointed in with the MCU is that they never utilized the Donald Blake pseudonym. In the first film, he could have easily used that moniker while he was walking around Earth and trying to be a normal person, but they tossed it aside as a different gag with Jane Foster's ex who is seemingly still out there somewhere.

Eric Masterson isn't going to be a thing, either. It's just not going to happen. So let's have Thor use that name as his pseudonym on Earth when he's trying to be a little inconspicuous.

Then, that frees up Thunderstrike to be used. Since it won't have to be a superhero name and it was both that and Masterson's weapon, how about giving that to Bill? For that matter, he could even use the mace instead of the hammer/axe combo to help differentiate it from Thor's Stormbreaker.

What would you like to see happen with Beta Ray Bill and his weapon, whatever its called, in the future of the MCU? Keep the discussion going in the comments section below!

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3 Story Ideas (Fanboys Follow-Up)

Posted by Anthony Mango - Friday, February 28, 2020

A few weeks back, Sonic the Hedgehog surprised most people by being a pretty decent film that also surpassed box office expectations. At this point, being both monetarily and critically well-received, a sequel is guaranteed, if not a third film, too.

Before anything is officially announced about those movies, what do I think should happen and what would I do if I were given the keys to the kingdom and creative control?

Welcome to the first edition of FANBOYS FOLLOW-UP—a segment where I take a film or TV show and expand on where I'd like to see the story go from there. I've wanted to do this many times over the years with things like Kick-Ass 3, Incredibles 3, dating all the way back to one of the first posts on this site with my Ghostbusters III idea. Now, it's officially kicking off with this, because...well...why not?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

We already know we're getting Tails as the end of the last film showed the little guy. It was a necessity. To make a sequel and not include him would be insane.

The last film ended with Robotnik stranded off-world and Sonic comfortable in his new home in the attic of the Wachowski's. We can't completely ignore the relationship between Sonic and The Donut Lord, Tom, nor push Maddie out of the way or anything like that. They need to do something, and there should be something that gets in the way of Sonic's friendship with Tom. That's what sequels pretty much always do.

Here's my quick pitch, as we don't need to flesh out all the little details:

The government was lenient on everyone, but they're still keeping tabs. They notice that something is happening across the planet that seems extremely reminiscent of Sonic's powers. Banks and technological facilities are being robbed in a split second and there's nothing but a blue streak of energy that they catch on camera. Who else are they going to blame but him? Crazy Carl agrees.

Tom goes to bat for Sonic, that he wouldn't be responsible, but the evidence mounts. Meanwhile, there's been tension brewing because Tails has come from Mobius trying to track him down because things have gotten bad and they could use his help. Creatures from that world are being converted into robots that are taking over. It's definitely Robotnik's fault, as these Badniks need to be stopped.

Immediately, there's a great partnership between Sonic and Tails, which makes Tom jealous. He doesn't really know what those two are up to, which makes him suspicious that Sonic is being a rebellious teenager and actually causing these crimes. But hey, Tom's not Sonic's father, so that creates even more tension. Plus, Maddie is pressuring Tom to have a baby and Sonic feels like he's being cast aside.

Then, they get seemingly full-proof evidence that it's Sonic causing these crimes when video surveillance footage manages to capture a picture of him and it has his shape, size, etc.

Who is the real culprit, though? Well, of course, it's Robotnik. I mean, he's the bad guy and all. But in particular, it's Mecha Sonic (aka Metal Sonic—I know they're all supposed to be different, but they shouldn't be, just like how Mega Man and X should be the same robot with some advancements and not entirely different characters). He should appear in Mark I form (Silver Sonic) but eventually, the blue armor and everything in future tweaks is more than enough to fool everyone.

Mecha Sonic is extremely powerful and able to match Sonic's speed, if not surpass it. That's the biggest physical fight of the whole thing, but there are also Badniks and normal drones that Robotnik pilots. That gives Tails something to do (disable the tech that controls the Badniks) and Tom something to do (fight off the drones) in the final battle.

It ends with Sonic being exonerated, Maddie having her child, Tom and Sonic have reconciled, Sonic has a friend in Tails that is closer to his own kind, they can travel between worlds easier through whatever means Robotnik found his way back, and all is well again.

That is...of course, until the tease at the end. The Knuckles Clan or Echnida Tribe or whatever you want to call them is attacked by another variation of Mecha Sonic and consult their prophecy about how they'd inevitably deal with the blue menace. Their cave paintings or scripture or whatever make it seem like Sonic is destined to destroy them through the Chaos Emeralds, and they won't let that happen.

Bonus points for how this is the #2 film and a ton of things revolve around the concept of two. There are two Sonics (real and robot). Tails has two tails. There are two heroes now from the other world (Sonic and Tails) as well as two villains in this story (Robotnik and Mecha Sonic). A wedge between Sonic/Tails and Tom/Maddie that is eventually patched up with their kid. So on and so forth.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Triple Trouble

As said, this film revolves around the Chaos Emeralds. There's a flashback to when Sonic was a child and that whole attack from the first film that had the echidnas hunting him. Their prophecy isn't clarified yet, as they've interpreted it as basically "Sonic will bring the end of Mobius through the Chaos Emeralds." Remember how in the games, there are those hieroglyphics that play into this idea? I'm copying that.

Robotnik sent Mecha Sonic to frame him again, so they think this is happening now. He offers to help them kill Sonic if he allows them access to the Chaos Emeralds. Since he's proven himself an ally so far and he's a genius from another world, they trust him and his new sidekick, a little purple wolf-like guy named Nack the Weasel (aka Fang the Sniper).

The head of the tribe is Knuckles. You know him. I don't need to go into who he is, and you know where this is going, too.

Admittedly, I'm not entirely sure what I'd do with the Tom and Maddie portion of this story yet, but I didn't want to sleep on this article any longer. Maybe in time, I'll edit this section with an update. But I do know I want Sonic and Tails to be bros and for the baby Wachowski to be something they watch over and for the kid to be in danger at some point in the movie, as well as some kind of tie-in to Chao.

Then, Sonic and Knuckles basically plays out the way you'd expect it. Knuckles is naive enough to trust Robotnik and acts as a primary antagonist along with Nack, who is more of a pest for Tails to deal with. We've got our Badniks in some fashion and possibly Mecha Sonic is back, but just not as featured. I'd rather have an alternative to that, but I don't think it's smart to throw out Shadow or something and I can't think of another enemy worth putting in the mix.

Robotnik uses the Master Emerald and unlocks Perfect Chaos, which is the real prophecy meaning: Sonic is the one to help stop the destruction, not the one who brings it. Knuckles realizes that mistake and joins the team, giving us Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Tom against Robotnik, Nack, the standard drones and the big bad threat of Perfect Chaos.

Sonic has to go Super Sonic to defeat it. He obviously does, because this is a film for kids and not something dark and depressing that ends in the world's destruction or something. Now that Sonic has proven himself totally not the problem, he's more than welcome to hang out on Angel Island and all throughout Mobius and Earth however he pleases.

Unfortunately, there's no natural way for me to figure out how to cram in more characters like Rouge and Cream, but maybe...just maybe...somewhere in there, you could add Amy Rose. If not, and if these movies do well enough that you can make a fourth, have a plot point be that Amy Rose is Sonic's girlfriend and that changes the dynamics of the group. You can have Rouge/Knuckles and Cream/Tails as the other couples and really market that toward the girls in the audience, too. But hey, I'm sticking with Sonic 2 and 3 at this point, and it's better not to get too far ahead of the game...I mean, movie...I mean, game-inspired movie.

Ghostbusters III Fan Fiction - What Would You Do?

Posted by Anthony Mango - Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Ever since Ghostbusters II, people have been yearning for another sequel to round out the series in typical trilogy fashion. Over 20 years have passed and the rumors have been flying around more than ever that Ghostbusters III is finally coming our way. But with rumors that they've struggled to figure out a script beyond the concept of "passing the torch" and that multiple cast members might not be interested in returning, what could they possibly do to make this a success? In the spirit of fan fiction, this is my theory on what I would do if given the reigns of control.

The film would focus around the idea that the old, original Ghostbusters are indeed passing the torch. Seeing as how the previous two films have always used a subplot that they weren't exactly the most well-received and well-funded organization, that would apply here as well. At its core, Ray Stantz was always the driving force behind the group and this would continue. He's been trying to convince the others that the downtime is over with and they should look into restarting the group. Winston Zeddemore, the hard worker of yesteryear, is retired and likes it that way. Egon Spengler agrees that their days as cowboys are over with and is simply more interested in following up on the academic side of things. He feels that they're better served in that regard, particularly after the death of Peter Venkman. It just wouldn't be the same without the man who kept them all together.

Seeking to reignite their passion, Ray Stantz approaches Oscar Barrett, son of Dana Barrett from Ghostbusters II, with an offer to join them and become a Ghostbuster himself. The reason why is because over the course of the past 20+ years, Oscar (nicknamed Oz or Ozzy) was eventually told that Peter Venkman is his actual biological father. Oscar is very similar to Peter in terms of characterization (like father, like son). He is crude, cocky, antagonistic, and has just the right amount of charm to make people withstand him. Just like Peter, he comes off worse than he really is and is hiding a bigger heart than you'd assume. Oscar has no interest in joining Ray and the Ghostbusters, though. This is primarily because his relationship with Peter was very strained and he resents him for not fixing it before his death.

While Oscar might not be interested in joining up with the team, there are two people that do in fact want to be involved. One of them is a college student who has been studying under Egon for some time. He's a stereotypical nerd in pretty much every way and is very much Egon's successor already, being rather humorless and serious. Though this guy is more so supportive in following in Egon's footsteps instead of doing the physical side of things, he's nonetheless eager to be a part of the new squad.

Another person that wants to be involved, almost desperately, is quite the fanboy of the Ghostbusters. He's someone that has followed them for quite a while and thinks it would be cool to be a part of it. The problem is that he's a bumbling and inept idiot that seems to offer nothing (although in terms of storytelling, he's very much an anchor of comedic relief).

At the moment, I haven't quite figured out what the primary antagonist could be, other than the idea that it would revolve around two other characters. The first of which is a man who has some sort of political power and completely against the Ghostbusters. Ideally, this would be a returning Walter Peck (portrayed by William Atherton in Ghostbusters I). The other one of these two characters is his daughter. The backstory of this duo is that the daughter (hereby referred to as simply "Peck's Daughter") and Peck don't get along. Peck's dislike of the Ghostbusters has resulted in a stereotypical lashing out from Peck's Daughter in terms of personality. She's grown up as someone who is interested in witchcraft. There can even be a joke thrown in there that she was raised being unable to eat marshmallows because of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the first film.

As if it isn't obvious, the four new members of the team are Oscar, Peck's Daughter, the Inept Fool and Egon's Apprentice. Ray acts as the overseer of the transition between the former squad and the trainees. Egon naturally is the head of the scientific side of things. Winston plays the role of their physical trainer, teaching them how to use the equipment for tactical purposes. Their first test trial is to capture Slimer, who has been utilized over the years as their sort of pet.

Each character of this new squad is there to counteract the others. It's self-explanatory that Egon's Apprentice clashes with the Inept Fool because of their intelligence. Peck's Daughter turns out to be the absolute best in terms of physical trapping of the ghosts, which puts her at odds with the Inept Fool because of their difference in quality. It also puts her at odds with Egon's Apprentice because they're on opposite sides of their quality, with him being the scientific end and her being the physicality. Oscar clashes with the Inept Fool because of their disagreement on whether they'd like to be a part of the team. While Oscar is reluctant, the Inept Fool considers it blasphemy that Oscar isn't following in his father's footsteps. Oscar's antagonism to Egon's Apprentice is about dedication as well but more so about the idea that Egon's relationship with his apprentice is what Oscar would have liked for himself and Peter.

The biggest relationship between the squad, however, is the connection of Peck's Daughter with Oscar. They're very competitive towards one another but they're also very supportive because they can bond with one another over their father issues. That bond is also a romantic relationship. In fact, the main reason that Oscar is convinced to become a member of the squad is because of his lust for Peck's Daughter.

By the end of the film, some of the following things happen. The Inept Fool turns out to be rather useful, possibly as a means of funding the group monetarily (on top of being the heart of the new group). Louis Tully is able to defend the Ghostbusters as their lawyer (with the help of his wife and secretary, Janine) reducing their roles to a cameo. Peck's Daughter, with the help of Oscar, is able to tell Peck to go to hell, resolving many issues they both have for their fathers. This applies even more so to Oscar when it comes to a cameo of Peter Venkman's ghost who not only helps the Ghostbusters out, but also has a conversation with Oscar. They hash things out. Oscar admits that the main reason he was acting the way he was acting is because of him missing Peter and wishing he hadn't left him, as he loves him. Peter admits that he pushes people away and ultimately makes it hard for them in some ways. This happened with Dana, but they've always loved and forgiven each other no matter what. He lets Oscar know that Peck's Daughter and his relationship reminds him of his relationship with Dana. He also lets Egon, Winston and Ray know that they have this covered and his full support, along with the rest of the team.

The old school team is forced to suit up one last time to help the new school team with the paranormal threat, whatever it is. Peck's Daughter's knowledge of witchcraft proves to be particularly helpful and they're even aided by Peter and Slimer from the other side of things. When all things are said and done, they've defeated the evil, become a solid team, and gotten over their issues together. You can either leave this open-ended, that they'll continue being the new team or you can go ahead and do Ghostbusters IV afterward.

That being said, who you gonna call for help on this new film? My line's open if you like the outline above.

What are your ideas on how they should go about making Ghostbusters 3?
