Week in Geek #126: RIP Sean Connery, Big Brother 22 Finale and More

Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Oscar Isaac Cast as Moon Knight

I'm not all too familiar with Moon Knight. I couldn't tell you even all his personas without looking them up. Marc Spector is the only one that comes to mind. But this character has always seemed kind of cool to me and if I were into reading comics, I'm sure I would have done a deep dive at some point. The problem with my connectivity is if someone isn't in film or television or some other media like that, I tend not to know them well enough to know where to start, so I don't get into them. Such is the case with Moon Knight.

So I can't tell you if I think Oscar Isaac will be the best person for the role. What I can say, though, is that Isaac is a great actor and I think he could probably pull off 9 out of 10 roles he's cast in. He's handsome, so he has that down. And if Marvel, who has been so good at casting most people in the MCU, thinks he's the right man for the part, then he's probably the right man for the part. Very cool.

Big Brother All-Stars 2 Finale

My two favorites going into this season were Cody and Enzo, so I'm really happy they ended up in the final two. Cody deserved to win over Enzo, in my mind, but Enzo deserved that second place prize. Big fan of this outcome!

RIP Sean Connery

Sean Connery has passed away at age 90. Over the years, his reputation went downhill due to some controversial opinions (to say the least) and stepping away from Hollywood. But he'll forever be the man who brought James Bond to life, and for that, I think pop culture is forever grateful.

As a near lifelong fan of the series myself, Connery was never my absolute favorite Bond, but the one I would compare everyone else to, since he was the standard.

I want to make some sort of poignant "you only live twice" reference, but it just seems in bad taste. RIP.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

As underwhelmed as I've been with some of the Star Wars stuff as of late, to downright disappointed to a level where it really dwindled my fandom of the series as a whole, The Mandalorian has been awesome. This first episode was just that - awesome. Taking down a krayt dragon to get its pearl and to set up Boba Fett? So good!!
