Must See TV Fall 2014: The Flash Season 1

Posted by The Dace Man - Sunday, September 21, 2014

Spoilers and News on The FlashHey, hey, hey Dacetacular Nation! Chris "The Dace Man" Dace here to honor some of television's hit TV shows as we roll into the 2014/2015 season! Join me on this quest as I bring to you some must-see TV shows this year!

The next series on Must See TV by Fanboys Anonymous is another comic book adaptation. The Flash had the seeds planted for a series in The CW's Arrow last season, and it has had fanboys and fangirls excited for the idea of Barry Allen getting his own show. Developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and the legend Geoff Johns, the series stars Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash), Candice Patton (Iris West), Rick Cosnett (Eddie Thawne), Tom Cavanagh (Dr. Harrison Wells), and Jesse L. Martin (Detective Joe West)

The interesting thing about this series is that The CW has gone with a bold move by not having it play after Arrow to get a strong lead. The Flash will stand alone on Tuesdays and will explore the life of the fastest man alive. In the golden age of comics will The Flash hold its own?

The premiere season of The Flash premieres premiere on October 7, 2014 on The CW.

Must See TV Fall 2014: Arrow Season 3

Posted by The Dace Man - Saturday, September 20, 2014

Spoilers and News on The CW's ArrowHey, hey, hey Dacetacular Nation! Chris "The Dace Man" Dace here to honor some of television's hit TV shows as we roll into the 2014/2015 season! Join me on this quest as I bring to you some must-see TV shows this year!

Next up on Fanboys Anonymous's Must See TV event is the gem of the CW Network. Arrow was developed by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg. It premiered on October 10, 2012 as part of The CW's line up and the answer to the departing Smallville. The comic-based show stars Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), David Ramsey (John Diggle), Willa Holland (Thea Queen), and Paul Blackthorne (Detective Lance).

Like every comic book show that makes its way to the digital media, I immediately gave it a shot, and over the past two seasons I was not disappointed. Arguably one of the greatest comic book adaptations on TV today, Arrow has packed a lot of punch and has greatly expanded the world of The Green Arrow! I eagerly look forward to this season as the producer teased Ra's Al Ghul's Arrow debut.

The third season of Arrow premieres October 7, 2014 on The CW.

Must See TV Fall 2014: Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 2

Posted by The Dace Man - Friday, September 19, 2014

Spoilers and Rumors about Brooklyn Nine-NineHey, hey, hey Dacetacular Nation! Chris "The Dace Man" Dace here to honor some of television's hit TV shows as we roll into the 2014/2015 season! Join me on this quest as I bring to you some must-see TV shows this year!

I will be the first to admit that by no means am I a fan of Andy Samberg, but his show on FOX is starting to win me over. Next up on Must See TV here on Fanboys Anonymous is Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the FOX sitcom stars Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Chelsea Peretti, and Andre Braugher.

The first season ended up taking home two Golden Globe Awards, one for Best Television Series: Musical or Comedy and one for Andy Samberg for Best Actor. Samberg definitely made me eat my words and earn new respect for him. That's why the next season is on my list of must see television for fall of 2014.

The second season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine premieres on September 28, 2014 on FOX.

The results may shock you! Or not. Spoiler warning: Someone gets molly-whopped!

let's play Minecraft YouTube videos Hey there fellow Fanboys and Fangirls! As many of you know, I've been on hiatus for while and haven't been writing in what seems like a lifetime. I've been doing some side projects on my own, and I have been given permission to show one of them to you lovely people here at Fanboys Anonymous.

Big, big, news here, folks! We now know the full synopsis for the biggest comic book movie followup ever, with Disney dishing Avenger: Age of Ultron details. Check it out below, followed by my impressions of what this all means for us fans of the first one:

avengers film series sequel starring robert downey jr
Marvel Studios presents "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the epic follow-up to the biggest [superhero] movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.
There are no big surprises or spoilers here. We've pretty much known all this already, but I find it interesting the mention of what Ultron's plans are: human extinction. Sure, that's a common theme when an evil power desires world domination, but the more interesting fact is that Ultron considers humanity dangerous, similar to what went down at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

What I like about this idea is that I don't completely disagree. We've just about screwed this planet up so badly we just might deserve to be taken out. I know director Joss Whedon sets up the idea that Ultron is simply doing what it's programmed to do and that this is the only way to make the world safe. How he makes us all care about whether the Avengers succeed in keeping the world safe won't come easy and will take a solid bit of writing.

Thoughts? Will this movie reach the same heights as the first? Will Whedon and company give us a great summer sequel? Sound off below.

Week in Geek: September 17th, 2014

Posted by Jeff Penner

Want to know what happened the past few days in nerd culture? WEEK IN GEEK is your quick fix to catch up with the rest of the fanboys out there.

Nerdy current events in geek culture for this week

MOVIES

Avengers: Age of Ultron Synopsis Revealed.

My take: The basic elements of what we were all expecting are there. Tony Stark tries something that goes wrong and Ultron is born. The stakes were high for Earth in the first film but this story could set everyone on a path to some kind of uncivilized war, or something. I'm curious how, or if, this story will effect the TV universes.

Anthony Daniels Doesn't Like CGI C-3PO.

My take: He's damn right. If Threepio can barely hold a screwdriver, he had no place having a high-flying adventure in the molten assembly line in Star Wars Episode II: The Clone Wars. It's nice to see he shares the same opinions many of us do.

DC/WB Announces Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles Animated.

My take: Not surprising, considering the live action film is coming. The only danger lies in DC's strong, animated history. Could this three-part series, when clipped together into a movie, end up being more entertaining than Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice? With Bruce Timm as executive producer, it's possible!

Andrew Garfield Knows Amazing Spider-Man 2 Wasn't Awesome.

My take: Garfield confirmed that there was a whole lot of additional story and threads that didn't end up weaving together due to editing. He does suggest that there was great potential but the viewing audience didn't get to see the full vision of what was supposed to play out. With Sony scrambling to throw an extended franchise together, maybe it's time to listen to someone other than your pocketbooks.

TELEVISION

Captain Boomeran Cast for … Arrow?.

My take: A villain I thought may be more suitable to appear in The Flash, Captain Boomerang, will be played by Nick Tarabay. I think this will help bleed the two shows together somehow as he's a member of the famed Rogues Gallery.

DC's Vertigo Series Lucifer Coming to TV?

My take: Slow down, DC/WB. You don't even know if you're doing this right yet. They continue to want to dominate TV and possibly emulate Marvel's film success but aren't connecting dots in the way they would need to. I could see a connection between Lucifer and Constantine at some point but either start a cohesive universe, or don't. It will be interesting to see where this upcoming Teen Titans series will land, too.

"Stick" Cast for Daredevil.

My take: This casting reveals a little bit about the background and trajectory for the series. We've already heard it will be darker but this confirms a Frank Miller-esk backstory. The more they can keep to the comics, the better. Also, Stick will be played by Scott Glenn! How awesome is that!!?

COMIC BOOKS

Death of Wolverine Delayed.

My take: At a time when continuity shouldn't matter as much (strong Steve Rogers is in as many books as weakened, 90-year-old Steve Rogers, for example), this single story's delay shouldn't matter much. I still hold strong to my theory that many of the recent changes at Marvel may revert back to normal once Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out. With so many crossovers (Original Sin, AXIS, etc) it's getting harder to keep stories contained. Especially with the X-universe now so mixed with the rest of the characters, where they were once kept very separate.

Justice League 3000 Brings Back Pre-New-52 Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.

My take: Soooo, huh!? It turns out that Justice League 3000, set in the year 3000, takes place on DC's Earth that we knew and loved from 1987-2011. I'm all for that, but man, what a tease! I don't think DC will ever go back to the world before The New 52 at this point, however, I would be fine with a little bit of clean-up this spring. Some huge event is coming and it could be a new "Crisis".

VIDEO GAMES

Minecraft Purchased for $2.5 Billion by Microsoft.

My take: If the property has the staying power of something like Pokemon, this is a huge "get" for Microsoft. However, if this happens to be a fad for a small portion of the population who outgrow it in the next few years, they're screwed. A goal is to heighten sales of Windows Smart Phones, which aren't doing well in the competitive market. With a target audience who knows enough to steer clear of the unpopular Windows 8, this might be a tough sell.

TECHNOLOGY

Text with Groot.

My take: Apparently you can call a certain number, that I will not list here, and text back and forth with Groot. The response should be obvious, however, I got wind that this was a ploy to record and sell your phone numbers so, take caution!

Watch out for this segment each and every Wednesday. We'll see you next week!

News and Rumors for ABC's The GoldbergsHey, hey, hey Dacetacular Nation! Chris "The Dace Man" Dace here to honor some of television's hit TV shows as we roll into the 2014/2015 season! Join me on this quest as I bring to you some must-see TV shows this year!

On this edition of Must See TV for the Fall 2014 lineup we come across another sitcom that struck gold last year. The Goldbergs was created by Adam F. Goldberg and stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia, George Segal, and Jeff Garlin. The show premiered last year on September 24 following Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

ABC planned the placement of The Goldbergs perfectly in their fall line up last year. I remember watching the premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with a group of friends and then ultimately leaving the TV on and catching The Goldbergs. I was caught up in the quirky suburban family from the '80s and began watching the show on a weekly basis. I look forward to this year's stories from the new family of comedy!

The second season of The Goldbergs premieres September 24, 2014 on ABC.

Microsoft Buys Minecraft Creators Mojang for $2.5 Billion

Posted by Unknown - Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Microsoft announced Monday that they have reached an agreement with Mojang, the company behind the cult video game built around virtual blocks with vast customizable worlds. Following a hefty deal, Minecraft will be incorporated into Microsoft Studios.

Minecraft creator Notch steps down from Mojang after Microsoft acquires the developer

The software giant's $2.5 billion deal with the Swedish indie video game studio comes with the obvious caveat: don't mess this up! But the announcement left many Minecraft fans worried about the future of the game and taking to the Minecraft forums to voice their concerns.

"Minecraft will continue to evolve, just like it has since the start of development," Mojang said following the announcement. "We don't know specific plans for Minecraft's future yet, but we do know that everyone involved wants the community to grow and become even more amazing than it's ever been. Stopping players making cool stuff is not in anyone's interests."

Although vague about the potential shift in its 40 employees, Mojang stated that, "Though it's too early to confirm which of us will continue working on Minecraft or other projects [such as Scrolls], we predict that the vast majority (if not all) Mojangstas will continue to work at Mojang for the time being."

One thing's for sure, Mojang's three founders—Markus "Notch" Persson, Carl Manneh, and Jakob Porser—will be leaving the company. Notch, the creator of Minecraft, previously stepped down from development on the game with plans to continue working on small game prototypes and web experiments.

"I don't see myself as a real game developer," Notch said on his website explaining that it wan't about the money. "I make games because it's fun, and because I love games and I love to program, but I don't make games with the intention of them becoming huge hits, and I don't try to change the world. Minecraft certainly became a huge hit, and people are telling me it's changed games."

Microsoft, which released franchises such as Halo and Fable, pledged that the deal will allow them to bring "richer and faster worlds, more powerful development tools, and more opportunities to connect across the Minecraft community."

Buying Mojang isn't a major financial bet for Microsoft, which has about $85 billion in cash reserves, so the deal makes sense even if they don't substantially profit off it. Released in 2009 with more than 100 million downloads on PC, both companies have worked together since 2012 while Minecraft quickly became the top online game on Xbox Live, boasting over two billion hours played on the Xbox 360 in the past two years. Microsoft's acquisition lets them appeal to a younger audience and tap into the most active community that continues to make the game as widely popular across all of its platforms—which includes the second most popular app purchase on iTunes. The deal will also bring the game to Windows phones, boosting its mobile efforts to bridge the gap between the amount of compelling apps that are available on iPhone and Android phones.

"I love you all. All of you," Notch said in closing of his post. "Thank you for turning Minecraft into what it has become, but there are too many of you, and I can't be responsible for something this big. In once sense, it belongs to Microsoft now. In a much bigger sense, it's belonged to all of you for a long time, and that will never change."

News and rumors on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Hey, hey, hey Dacetacular Nation! Chris "The Dace Man" Dace here to honor some of television's hit TV shows as we roll into the 2014/2015 season! Join me on this quest as I bring to you some must-see TV shows this year!

For our next installment we're talking ABC's hit show and Marvel and Disney's cash cow! Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on ABC September 24, 2013 and was created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen. The action-packed show stars Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen (Melinda May), Brett Dalton (Grant Ward), Chloe Bennet (Skye), Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz), Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter). The show follows the inner workings of S.H.I.E.L.D. and what is happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when the heavy hitters are not on the big screen.

The simple fact that this is a Marvel Project that ties in with the movies we've come to love is the reason I began watching. Yes, the premiere season started off slow, but man did it go out with a bang when it tied in with Captain America: Winter Soldier. This season has promised to pack just as much punch as the second half of the first season with many of our favorite comic characters hitting the screen for the first time.

Agent Phil Coulson was last seen talking to former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury. Now tasked with rebuilding one of the most infamous branches of the Marvel Universe, Phil will now have to enlist the help of those close to him to take down the remaining Hydra threat and any new ones that will pop up along the way.

The second season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres September 23, 2014 on ABC.

I love finding hidden gems out there that I never expected to run into. Andy Christ, a very oddball yet well-made web comic, is just such a thing—a proverbial diamond in the rough. Illustrator, writer, creator, and all-around maniac mad scientist Pat Grub brings us a fun, deviant of a character in Andy. He's a poor, orphaned boy with a big brain, a penchant for asking too many questions, and a helluva secret in his past.

Andy Christ deluxe edition episode 3: The Void
We begin our journey in "Episode 1: Peanuts", after a terrifying scene in which Andy is held prisoner by an unknown... cyborg? Evil genius? It's unclear at first, but intriguing. That's the crux of this comic: things that happen seem so odd and weird, yet there is a nice familiarity to the happenings. I never felt like the story was forced, or just being strange for the sake of it; rather it seemed a natural progression of the baseline story.

So Andy is an orphan, and has a pet squirrel. He loves his pet but there's a slight problem: the animal is the living dead and sets off an attack of zombie squirrels. It's over-the-top, it's fun, it's par for the course for Andy Christ. With every panel there is a sense of intimate connection with the artist responsible for its creation. Grubb is a good storyteller, and earnest in his application of his drawings. Andy comes off as fully-fleshed, yet hidden with secrets and layers. He is both sympathetic and dangerous. You feel for his plight, yet can't help but wish he wasn't pure evil at times.

The comic is labeled as horror, and has that feel at times, but it's also a fine comedic tale. As the writer/illustrator casts off the initial dregs of exposition and obligatory set-up, Andy is ready to delve deeper into his mythos. "Episode 3: The Void" is where it takes off. He learns his teddy bear Frooky is not as he seems, and neither is Andy. From there, creator Grubb lets loose, and while the comic becomes convoluted at times and stymied with heavy dialogue, there's a strong pulse of drive and telemetry. The story is going somewhere. At times it can appear a little amateurish, but the love and passion put into every panel is present and commendable. There are some great pop culture references (perhaps too many) as well, for those paying attention.

I guess the biggest thing I got out of these three issues was a sense of fun and discovery. Much like South Park, Andy Christ works best when there's a sense of the kids involved simply exploring their world and getting into trouble. How Andy gets out of tight spots include going demonic and fucking shit up. The last page in "Episode 3" also initiates a desire to further explore Andy's past and future simultaneously. There are even stranger and more powerful enemies in the next issue of Andy Christ, those greater and more dangerous than a nun or corrupt priest. Andy and Frooky will certainly have their difficulties.

Of course, along the way I'm sure we'll get more zombies, demons, and plenty of surprises. Do you want more information on this web comic? Does it seem interesting? Check out the link and sound off below.

Gotham News and Rumors
Hey, hey, hey Dacetacular Nation! Chris "The Dace Man" Dace here to honor some of television's hit TV shows as we roll into the 2014/2015 season! Join me on this quest as I bring to you some must-see TV shows this year!

The next show on our list makes its debut this year. Now, many of us comic book fans are reveling in the golden era of comic book movies and TV, and this new show only adds to the allure. FOX's Gotham is created by Bruno Heller and stars Ben McKenzie (James Gordon), Donal Logue (Harvey Bullock), Jada Pinkett Smith (Fish Mooney), and Sean Pertwee (Afred PennyWorth)

Gotham allows us to look into the Batman Universe before Bruce Wayne became The Dark Knight. The TV series will follow a young James Gordon in the city of Gotham and look into the world of the mainstream villains before they became the evil icons we know today.

Being a big fan of Batman and comic books in general, there was no way yours truly could pass up this premiere event. James Gordon has always been a fascinating character in the world of Batman, so it's great to see him get the spotlight to himself.

The premiere season of Gotham premieres September 22, 2014 on FOX.

Spoilers and News from New Girl
Hey, hey, hey Dacetacular Nation! Chris "The Dace Man" Dace here to honor some of television's hit shows as we roll into the 2014/2015 season! Join me on this quest as I bring to you some must see TV shows this year!

For our next installment, we're talking FOX's hit sitcom New Girl, another show that was binge-watched by yours truly! The show premiered on FOX September 20, 2011 and was created by Elizabeth Meriwether. The hit show stars Zooey Deschanel (Jessica Day), Jake Johnson (Nick Miller), Max Greenfield (Schmidt), Lamorne Morris (Winston Bishop), Hannah Simone (CeCe Parekh), and Damon Wayans, Jr. (Ernie "Coach"). It follows the life of of Jess who is a bubbly naive female and her interaction with the three room mates she moved in with.

Now I stumbled upon this show because I got the Max from Netflix. Yeah that random slot machine known as Max recommended this to me and the characters of Nick and Schmidt hooked me. The zany antics of the group as well as the every day struggles of life really attract viewers for the long haul. As well as the will they won't they tension that occurs within the group!

The fourth season of New Girl premieres tomorrow September 16, 2014 on FOX.
