YouTube Spotlight: Shadowlink4321 & LeeandLie

Posted by Wago - Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Hey everyone, I'm back again with another YouTube Spotlight. Last time I covered musician Dan Bull; this time I'll be covering two other musicians on YouTube who work closely together. Shadowlink4321 (Daniel Alvarez) and LeeandLie (Amanda Lee) have gained popularity through doing covers of various anime theme songs, translating and making English adaptions. Both have developed a solid YouTube fan base and have only improved with each release.

watch shadowlink4321 on youtube LeeandLie online

Shadowlink4321: Sometime during 2012 I was searching for the soundtrack of Ao No Exorcist; their opening songs were difficult to come by due to YouTube copyright’s policy, but I quickly stumbled across Shadowlink's cover of "ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D—In My World." After listening to the song I became intrigued and searched through his most popular covers, finding some amazing covers of Fullmetal Alchemist openings. In addition, Shadowlink does a series of fun videos on Smash Brothers Brawl hacks. With such a variety of content his channel is worth a look up!

LeeandLie: After becoming familiar with Shadowlink's work I eventually had videos of YouTuber “LeeandLie” suggested to me. At the time I had just finished the series Angel Beats and decided to give her cover of "My Song" by Girls Dead Monster a try. The English adaption was tremendous and reminded me of the final and powerful scenes of Masami Iwasawa from the Angel Beats anime. Following this I became a dedicated fan, much as I did with Shadowlink. In addition to her covers, she also has done some awesome voice acting work and has a whole bunch of untapped potential that I hope gets shared with the world.

In summary, both of them are very talented, with skills including voice acting, editing, and plenty of others. From my experience with their live streams they have shown to be genuinely awesome people, and I wish them all the success in the world. Make sure to hit their subscribe button and share their work with your friends and family! With that I'll leave you a cover they did together along with various other YouTubers of Attack on Titan's first opening.

YouTube Spotlight: Dan Bull aka Douglby

Posted by Wago - Monday, January 6, 2014

Hey everyone, it's Stephen Wago back again. For the most part, I normally stick to podcasts and articles with regard to anime. However, I'm going to tread a little onto the Dace Man's territory and introduce you to one of my favorite YouTubers in this edition of YouTube Spotlight.

watch Dan Bull Douglby rap videos on youtube
Dan Bull rapping about DLC already on the disc.
The YouTube channel Douglby is home to an independent rap musician known as Dan Bull. He covers a large variety of topics on his channel, including politics, social media, and hot topics in the news, but he mostly focuses on video games. Throughout his time on YouTube he's gained himself 400,000 subscribers. Most of his popularity stems from his "Skyrim Epic Rap" video.

That said, the reason I put him on the YouTube Spotlight is because, in my eyes, he is truly deserving of more. He releases high-quality content on a regular basis with his music videos, which is reason enough to warrant more attention. However, in addition, Bull also shines the spotlight on many other YouTubers in a segment he calls the "Love Bomb."

Through his video logs and the lyrics to his music, it's very easy to become emotionally invested in and appreciate Dan Bull and to see that he's a genuinely nice guy. Plus he truly sends out a great message as someone who has autism and other ailments yet has been able to accomplish many awesome things.

So with that, I ask you to dive in to the ill mind of Dan Bull.

What do you think about Dan Bull? Are there any YouTubers who you think deserve the spotlight? As always, you can catch me on Addicted to Anime; our next broadcast is scheduled for January 12 at 8PM EST on Mega Powers Radio. I'll be covering Sword Art Online, along with my wife Johnna. Otherwise, you can catch me every Tuesday at 10pm EST for Unanimous Decision MMA on Dream Elite Radio.

Screaming with The Bleeding Critic Videos

Posted by Anonymous - Sunday, December 22, 2013

We can have the argument some other time about whether we think Twitter is a dying medium for getting your message out there, but the fact remains that a wealth of powerhouse personalities are still using it. Among the mess of population spewing whatever it is that they spew, a gem surfaces once in a great while. Those were my exact sentiments when I stumbled across @BleedingCritic.

Full HD Horror Bleeding Critic Videos And Downloads I came across a video just a few months ago on Twitter that drew me in. It was a promo for the Bleeding Critic's reviews: a black and white video painting a vivid picture of a somewhat mentally deranged character who has just enough clarity of mind to stop and give a very in-depth review. That video has since disappeared.

Who can say whether it was too revealing, such as his mentioning his current or past horror series, his work being made redundant five times in fifteen years, or the political message behind his statements in which he claims to be someone heavily involved in the world of horror already as opposed to the millions of middle-class novices who make up the ranks of horror reviewers currently getting their voices out there. Perhaps the magazines and groups he has joined since have requested him to take the video down. Either way, no one will have the opportunity to be drawn in as I was.

He says we will never see his face, so who is this Bleeding Critic? His reviews began in what I assume was a homemade mask, which has since been upgraded to the mask at the top right, created by an award-winning film costume team. He's most definitely from the United Kingdom, and more than likely living in New York, but any other information about his identity is hidden behind the white face, red hair, and frightening blue eyes. Like I said, your guess about his identity is as good as mine.

At any rate, the man behind the mask promises unique, spoiler-free reviews (such as the one above), good short horror stories (like the one below), and true horror in the watered-down world of lackluster scream films. In my opinion, he delivers on these promises. His May review is one of the most well-delivered reviews I've ever read, both because it really is about as accurate as you can get, and because of his well-employed dark comedy. May is one of my all-time favorite horror films, and simply by watching The Bleeding Critic's review, you can tell the amount of care and dedication he puts into his work. You can see he also delivers on his promise. No spoilers!

Since I began following him, the masked horror has teamed up with Scream Magazine and found loyal advertising from big-name Twitter horror tweeters like @DailyDeadNews and @BlackFlagTV. He's got his own advertising all over New York, including small souvenirs, posters, and clothing. Whether or not you have seen or plan to see his reviews, chances are you will be seeing him around. You just better hope you see him before he sees you.

You can check out more reviews and stories on The Bleeding Critic's YouTube channel, BleedingTV.

YouTube Spotlight: Sprint Everything's Important Commercials

Posted by The Dace Man - Sunday, November 3, 2013

What's up, fanboys? Tonight I decided to take a look at Sprint's latest campaign, which features acting legends James Earl Jones and Malcolm McDowell. The campaign is entitled Everything's Important, and the commercials have been airing in an effort to attract customers. Now, I know you're probably saying: "Chris, these are commercials, not YouTube videos. What are they doing on YouTube Spotlight?"

New Everything's Important Ads featuring James Earl Jones and Malcom McDowell
Well non-believers, they're on YouTube. So there. It counts.

The interaction between the two is fantastic, and they keep hooking me in every time they release a new video. For your viewing pleasure, I've attached my favorite one so far. Hopefully, they will continue this campaign and keep rolling out new ones.

Enjoy, kiddies!

YouTube Spotlight: Bad Lip Reading

Posted by The Dace Man - Friday, October 4, 2013

Bad Lip Readings NFLHey there Dactacular Fanboys and Fangirls, it is I, Chris "The Dace Man" Dace bringing you another edition of YouTube spotlight! This week we take a look into the bizarre world of Bad Lip Reading (BLR). BLR broke onto the scene in March 2011 when an anonymous Texas-based music and video producer swapped out the music and lyrics to the annoying Rebecca Black hit "Friday" and replaced them with a newly created song called "Gang War." Upon its release to the Internet via YouTube the video garnered  millions of hits and thousands of subscribes, and from there the BLR channel blasted off into YouTube stardom. The channel went on to spoof many more music videos by artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, and Michael Buble.

In September 2011 the group decided to branch out into the ever-hot topic of politics. The first political video targeted presidential hopeful Rick Perry and would go on to spoof Obama, Romney, and many other politicians before again branching off, this time into movies and TV. Today the channel has nearly 2.5 million subscribers and 41 videos. Although its most recent posting was 5 months ago, the videos are humorous classics. The group behind BLR has been nailed with three copyright claims in the past but bounced back after the claims were dropped and the videos reinstated. Their last video is embedded below. Enjoy!

Under the YouTube handle of Lara6683, she has over 110,00 subscribers with videos that have over millions of hits!

Lara is such a hit on YouTube that she often tours conventions and the world playing with many other musicians. A very notable collaboration she recently did was with violinist Taylor Davis.
