Week in Geek #159: Slave I, Optimus Primal Voice, Tomorrow War and She-Hulk's Wrecking Crew | Fanboys Anonymous

Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Boba Fett's Starship is No Longer the Slave I

Disney isn't calling Boba Fett's iconic starship as "Slave I" anymore. To date, there's no alternative name. It's just "Boba Fett's Starship" on LEGO promotional material.

I understand the decision. While you can make the argument "this doesn't erase slavery" and "the term 'slave' is still valid", I'd present to you "But why would Disney want to open the discussion at all if they can avoid it entirely?"

I think they need to rechristen it during The Book of Boba Fett, though. Something needs to happen where he proclaims that he's the man in power now and he's casting aside his "slave" name, in a sense. I'll go so far as to say it should be rechristened something like King I.

Optimus Primal Voice

Ron Perlman will voice Optimus Primal in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Perfect. Awesome. He's got the voice to play that role 100%.

Megan Fox Wants in on Marvel and DC

Like everyone, if she's the right fit for a part, give her a role! I think she'd work better in Marvel than in DC, since DC feels like it would be a one-off that would cast her more for her name than for her actually being the right choice for that particular part.

Off the top of my head, though, I can't think of any roles she'd be my first choice to cast other than how she would make a fantastic Black Cat if the age difference wasn't there.

The Tomorrow War

Got a chance to check this movie out. It's a perfectly fine watch if you're looking to kill some time. I doubt anyone's going to have it on their "best of 2021" lists in any fashion, but I enjoyed it enough to not want to shut it off at 6am and to get through to the end.

It doesn't do anything great, but it does everything okay.

The Wrecking Crew on She-Hulk

Rumor has it that classic group of villains is FINALLY going to be showing up in She-Hulk. Even though I can't sit here and say they should have been a priority by any means, I'm surprised they haven't been used by now. I just imagined they would have been one of the go-to villain options for something like Luke Cage or some quick throwaway mooks Thor would have fought in #2 or something along those lines.

She-Hulk might be the best overall fit for them, come to think of it. They're important enough that fans of the comics will go "Oh yeah! Cool!" while more casuals will take it just fine. Also, they're vague enough that you can play around with their origins and casting without those more dedicated fans being too upset about changes.
