Week in Geek #155: Thoughts on Lucifer Season 5 Part B and A Quiet Place II | Fanboys Anonymous

Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Lucifer Season 5 Part B

DAN. That made me sad. I see why they went in that direction, but it definitely got me in the gut that he was killed off. I commend them for doing it, though. He did start off the show as a corrupt cop and it's interesting to put him in a scenario where he has to go to Hell because of not getting over that.

This certainly felt like the end of the series, as it was intended to be. It seems like one more episode or two would be all that they needed to wrap things up: put Dan in Heaven, come to terms with Lucifer being the new God, possibly make Charlie an angel after all, clarify Chloe's true purpose and maybe wrap it up with God saying this was all his plan. Oh, and Lopez needs to find out and serve some kind of bigger picture role, too.

At this point, what is there left to do with Linda or Maze, for instance? I'm curious what the next season will be about for them.

I loved a lot of this season. God's appearances were fantastic. I loved seeing characters mature and actually advance, rather than circle back to previous tropes just to prolong things like a lot of other television shows do.

The show does sort of feel like it's done mostly everything it can do, so I'm okay with it ending in the next season, even though my brain tells me "more of a good thing is what you want." But hey, we didn't need that last extra season of Scrubs, right?

A Quiet Place Part II & Spin-off

Having seen Part 2 the other day, I enjoyed it. It's basically a somewhat lesser version of the previous film, but close to the same level of quality. If you liked the first one, I recommend it.

Apparently, there's a spin-off in development that won't be a direct sequel, but just something else in the same world space. Possibly a prequel. Maybe something that runs alongside or takes place after, but just doesn't focus on the family.

I've liked the previous two, so I'll be interested in seeing any other ones in the future so long as they have a good enough pitch and seem decent. They won me over and it'll be easier to keep me coming back. Kind of like The Purge from #2 onward.

I wouldn't mind if that was the end of it, though. I don't think I need to see the true end of the invasion, but I'd also be interested to see a story where they've wiped out most of the aliens and they're rebuilding.
