Week in Geek #130: The Mandalorian Jeans Guy, Ahsoka Tano, Grogu and More

Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

King Kong vs Godzilla Heading to Streaming Service?

Rumor has it they're shopping around putting this film on a streaming platform after realizing how movie theaters still aren't going to have guaranteed people back to normal any time soon.

I think this feels like the type of movie you can't really watch at home. While many movies could work just fine on Disney+ or Netflix or HBO Max or whatever, this doesn't strike me as one of them.

Jeans Guy Removed from Mandalorian

They've edited the last episode of The Mandalorian to remove the crew member who was accidentally in one of the shots. Take a look. RIP Jeans Guy. You'll be remembered in the same vein as the Starbucks cup from whatever Game of Thrones episode that was (I didn't watch the show).

Speaking of The Mandalorian...

How cool was this last episode? I'm not a big Ahsoka Tano fan, having not grown up on The Clone Wars or anything, but it's abundantly clear over and over that Dave Filoni would have been a better choice commandeering this franchise instead of Kathleen Kennedy and her group. He at least respects what's come before him while making additions, rather than going "Screw that, mine's better, even if it's exactly the same but without the nuance and value."

They filmed her intro like she's the creature in a monster movie. That's great. That's some Phantom Menace opening scene stuff.

I'm not a big fan of the idea of "find Ahsoka and she'll refuse to train the kid and tell you to find a new Jedi" angle. But hey, Baby Yoda is named Grogu. I dig it. And they name-dropped Thrawn!

Man...it's a shame none of this matters because The First Order just destroys everything, sends it all back to the days of The Empire and renders the entire series up until that point moot, right?
