Week in Geek #44: Joker Teaser, Black Widow Cast and More

Posted by Anthony Mango Saturday, April 6, 2019
Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

DC Comics Digital Library Coming to DC Universe

The DC Universe streaming service will be adding the entire digital library of DC comics. This is a big boost to the service, and while it won't be available immediately and will be rolled out over time, it's still something that majorly upgrades the value of the monthly charge, even if you have to wait a year after the issue comes out for it to show up on DC Universe.

Avengers: Endgame Tickets / Trailer

I purchased 16 for myself and my friends, and I had to order them 5 minutes BEFORE they were supposed to go on sale just to be able to get them.

These tickets are being sold for hundreds of bucks because the systems on all the major theater outlets just got wrecked from people trying to buy their seats. My AMC account was acting as if the theater around me didn't exist and that I had no account because it just couldn't make sense of the mad rush.

Regarding the new trailer that was put out, my only response is "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!" I'm so pumped.

Joker Teaser Trailer

Everyone is going nuts over this, but I feel the same as I did before. I hate to be a grouch, but I think this is a mistake, the movie gives me no vibe that it should be about Joker from the DCU, and I feel more like this is a weird college kid's fan film that he thinks is a super deep "fresh take" or "thought experiment" than an actual movie about The Joker.

I hope I'm wrong, and maybe this will be a good movie if I ignore that it's supposed to be about a DC character but I just don't see what the fuss is all about.

David Harbour and Rachel Weisz for Black Widow

The roles they've supposedly signed up for have not been revealed, but it's nice to see that some big guns are coming out for this.

Why, with no hints whatsoever, do I get the feeling Weisz is playing the main villain, Florence Pugh is playing a somewhat "replacement Black Widow" of sorts type of villain (Yelena Belova?) and Harbour will play a mentor that gets killed or something. Just a thought.

Kumail Nanjiani Cast in The Eternals

Supposedly, he's one of the leads. I'll admit, I know nothing about The Eternals to speculate on any character he may play. However, he doesn't strike me as some kind of ripped superhero leading man Chris Evans/Hemsworth/Pratt type guy, so I'm curious and just have to shrug until I know more.

Suicide Squad Casting News

So now, Idris Elba isn't Deadshot, because Deadshot isn't in the movie at all. Now, that sucks.

Joel Kinnaman is returning as Rick Flag (meh), Viola Davis is back as Amanda Waller (yay) and you mean to tell me this is a reboot?

I'm assuming King Shark is just the replacement of Killer Croc.
