What is A to Z? NBC's New Sitcom Pilot Episode Reviewed

Posted by Unknown Monday, August 25, 2014
Ever since the series finale of How I Met Your Mother, I have been trying to find a show that can replace something I have been watching on a regular basis for six to seven years. Since the summer is usually filled with reality shows and contests like America's Got Talent and So You Think You Can Dance, I decided I would wait until the big companies would announce their fall lineups to see if there would be any new, interesting shows that would get me hooked. NBC may have done it for me with a TV show that even stars Cristin Milioti, The Mother from How I Met Your Mother, called A to Z.

Now, what is A to Z? That is a question I have been asking myself since I watched the pilot episode, which can be seen on nbc.com, and thought of how interesting the premise of the show was. Below I will be talking about the pilot episode, so just a heads up for spoilers.

Let's begin with the plot of the show. Essentially it's about how these random people, Andrew and Zelda, meet and started dating. There is a narrator that gives information throughout, and even states that the two only end up dating for around nine months, and that the show is specifically about the two's relationship from A to Z. Even the name for the title episode ("A" is for Acquaintances) indicates that the show could quite possibly be only twenty-six episodes long, the length of the alphabet.

All of this is very interesting, as this leads to some very important questions one may be asking themselves from the very first episode, like "Why does their relationship end?" or "Does the relationship not end and they get married?"

So what do I think about the pilot episode? I will have to say that I am impressed. Not only is the story interesting, but I find Cristin's new role quite natural and seems right for her. They do a great job introducing the supporting cast, and the chemistry between Andrew and Zelda is spot on as their characters are leaning towards the opposites side of the spectrum. One more thing about A to Z is that there is something charming about it. I can't explain it, but I believe that as long as this show doesn't get cancelled during the first few episodes and lasts its full life cycle, it could possibly be a hit, and can become a classic if all episodes are as well-rounded as the pilot episode.

Have you seen the pilot episode yet? Or are you waiting for the series premiere? Either way be sure to tune into NBC at 9:30 EST, October 2 to watch the premiere. Also be sure to leave a comment below with what you think of the show yourself!
