Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is Stuffed with Too Many Characters | Fanboys Anonymous
Batman Superman and Wonder Woman DC Trinity
The latest on what could either be a total mess or a revelation in the genre of superhero films is that Batman's sidekick, Robin, will be featured in the film. Ugh. Really? Let's review the total number of DC characters they are shoving in here, shall we? We have the two mentioned in the title itself, Batman and Superman. That alone annoys me as this was initially supposed to be a sequel to Man of Steel, but that's the least of this film's problems.

In addition to the two biggest DC characters, we also have Wonder Woman, Cyborg, a rumored Aquaman, and now (maybe) Robin. Plus, we have two actors, Callan Mulvey and Scoot McNairy, in unspecified roles. Rumor has it that this guy, Scoot (what the hell kind of name is that anyway?), could possibly play Joker. Wow. I don't even know where to start with this. Obviously, if they are basing this film partly on The Dark Knight Returns, then the Joker makes sense. Isn't this too soon?

How many characters are too many? And why call it Dawn of Justice when it is looking more and more like a full fledged Justice League film? DC attempting to catch up with Marvel and the massive success of their Avengers film is somewhat pathetic. It's like they are late to a birthday party, but forgot to bring a present. "Oh, what? Sorry. Let me go grab something real quick. Sorry!" It's too late DC. Marvel is so far ahead that it might be impossible to catch them.

WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW IN RED

It is speculated that The Joker has killed Robin at this point, creating a broken down, gritty and despondent Batman. Supposedly, there is a shot of Robin's tattered cloak, so the assumption is that Batman has already lost a Boy Wonder from his team by the start of the film. Could that be Jason Todd, as what happens in the hcomics? If so, perhaps Dick Grayson appears in the film as Nightwing later on.

There is also a rumor that Affleck has significant gray hair to make him look more mature than his 42 years. I'm fine with that. In fact, it's what needs to happen if they are taking a page from The Dark Knight Returns. However, I still think Ben Affleck is too handsome for that interpretation, so they'll have to dirty him up some more. I also think there are too damn many characters in this film. "But it's only a cameo, Will! Settle down." So what? What's the point of a cameo if the character doesn't have a reason for being in the film and doesn't do anything significant? It only clutters the film up.

Will Zack Snyder make it work? Will Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice be a total cluster fuck or will all the pieces fit where they need to? Sound off below.
