Set over a decade after the events in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the human race is on the verge of extinction after a deadly virus and civil unrest have all but wiped out mankind.
Caesar's nation of genetically evolved apes is threatened by a group of human survivors of the devastating virus led by Dreyfus (Gary Oldman). They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.
