Review of Star Wars: Tarkin by James Luceno

Posted by Anonymous - Sunday, July 12, 2015

After years of Star Wars storytelling avoiding the time period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, the Lucasfilm Story Group is now filling the gap with its new material. James Luceno's (Darth Plagueis, Labyrinth of Evil) first fully canon Star Wars novel tells the tale of how Governor Wilhuff Tarkin became Grand Moff of the Empire, as well as filling out his backstory and giving life to the character.

All spoilers will be relegated to the end section and relatively brief, but first I would like to give a spoiler-free review and a grading for this novel. My perspective is that of someone who has read almost everything with a Star Wars label on it and enjoys the stories and the world that this explores. I read almost all of the Expanded Universe before it was relegated to a non-canon Legends label, but I approach the new stories with excitement.

My first impression of Tarkin was that it is really short, with the page count of the actual novel at just over 260 pages. A book does not need to be long to be good, however, so while the page count was disappointing, it did not factor into the way I read the story.

The tale is essentially two different stories about the titular character that weave together to tell a broader story about who Wilhuff Tarkin is beneath his frown. The main story takes place around 5 years after Revenge of the Sith. It is a team-up story of Tarkin and the other character featured on the cover, Darth Vader. The two of them are brought together to find a small cell of rebellious revolutionaries (well before the formation of the Rebel Alliance that we all know and love from A New Hope and, more recently, Star Wars Rebels). Tarkin has had some experience with their methods from his days fighting in the Clone Wars. This is the first mission that he is working together with Vader on, so the reader can watch their camaraderie develop as the mission plays out.

The second story is a flashback to Tarkin's youth. He and his uncle, Jova, come from a wealthy and prominent family on a world far from the Galactic center. They are put together by Tarkin's parents because Jova lives in the wild and will train Tarkin to survive. This story is meant to show how Tarkin thinks and the reasons that his personality is as calculating and ruthless as it is in all the other media where he has appeared.

Quite honestly, I found the secondary story, that of Tarkin's upbringing, far more interesting than the primary tale. While it might be entertaining to many to see Tarkin and Vader getting in sync with one another and pursuing rebels without regard for anything in between them and their goal, for me it was a greater story to see where Tarkin came from and the planet which spit him into the undisputed third place in the Imperial hierarchy.

The Imperial characters in this book—mainly Tarkin and Vader but also the Emperor and some officials—feel in character and are fleshed out in interesting and mostly fulfilling ways. Tarkin comes across as a bit of a snob and comes to some correct conclusions too easily, but in some places his confidence in his intelligence and underestimation of his opponents hurts him as it does in A New Hope. The rebel characters in this book, however, are generally uninteresting and one-dimensional.

Overall, I would give this book a C+. I know of some online reviewers who really enjoyed and raved about Tarkin, but I cannot bring myself to fall into this category. The primary story was too dry, and, despite the shortness of the novel, dragged on too long for me. I understand that some important things happened throughout the course of the book, but I did not feel that the plot itself was important enough to the character or the galaxy to write or read about. The storytelling, as is Luceno's way, is great and probably of a higher class than most licensed novelists bring to the table. However, the first chapter of this wonderfully written prose is spent talking entirely about the design of a uniform. One of the things Luceno has excelled at in the past is pulling from all the other Star Wars material that exists, so I think he suffered here primarily from two things: a lack of ideas about what to do with the plot and where to bring the characters, and a lack of other resources to pull from since this is only the second canon novel in the Star Wars galaxy.

Now, a couple of notes for those who have read the book or do not care about spoilers.

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!

1) So there's a lot of talk going around about how Palpatine's first name is Sheev, which is first introduced to us in this book. Do you like it or not like it? For me, I think this is mostly a moot point because it's not likely to start popping up everywhere. It's not the best name he could have been (I was kind of pulling for Frank, myself).

2) I can understand Tarkin's reasoning to come to the conclusion that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker, because he's working closely with him and has previously worked with Anakin. However, I believe it's a much bigger leap to see Tarkin determine that Palpatine is also a Sith Lord. And Tarkin doesn't care because he sees Jedi and Sith as basically the same, but Palpatine has unified a galaxy. Of course, Tarkin also knows that Palpatine started the war. I don't think that Tarkin just shrugging off this information is entirely rational, and I probably would not have had him reach the conclusion that Palpatine is a Sith Lord. Let him think Vader is the only Sith in the galaxy.

3) So Palpatine uses the Jedi Temple as the Imperial Palace. That's fine, I can understand that. But he does it because the Jedi Temple was built on a Sith lair? That's a little stranger and needs development in a future story. Does this mean that the Jedi have not been pure lightside since they built their Temple on Coruscant? Does this have no effect whatsoever, but maybe Palpatine wanted to recover Sith knowledge? Is this meant to be a social commentary exclusively, about how the Jedi and Sith go after the same things (like power and knowledge and exact locations for building)?

4) Just how important is Tarkin's ship? I don't think that Vader and Tarkin are going after these rebels because they stole the ship, because that is pure overkill for a ship that is basically falling apart by the end of the book. I think they are going after the rebels because these are the first rebels who are actually able to pull off something like this, and they must be shut down before they can organize into a larger force.

Of course, my opinion does not matter nearly as much as everyone else's. If you've read the book, want to comment on the points I've raised or should have raised, or if you'd like to discuss anything else about it, please leave a comment below.

SDCC2015: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Trailer #2 Thoughts

Posted by Anthony Mango - Saturday, July 11, 2015

DC and Warner Bros. hit Hall H with a couple of hard punches, such as confirmation that the Green Lantern film will be titled Green Lantern Corps, but nothing will get fans more pumped up than the latest trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Check it out:

My thoughts?
  • I love the idea of the world examining Superman as a false god who needs to step up and actually become a source of hope for the world, since that's what his character revolves around the most. I love the idea that Bruce Wayne is pissed about the destruction because of the people who have died.
  • Lex's hair is ridiculous. Why is it so hard to do this character justice on screen? He's either campy as hell or he's Kurt Cobain? He's bald, too. Let him be bald! There's absolutely nothing that says you need to put a wig on him at any point in any movie!
  • I love the idea of a dead Robin, but I'll tell you right now that if they kill off Dick Grayson instead of Jason Todd, I'm going to passionately hate this movie, especially if they've just merged the Robins together to skip forward to Carrie Kelley. That will show that they love The Dark Knight Returns too much and that they don't care about building an actual universe, because it kills off being able to use Nightwing, Red Hood (yes, I know, they could do Grayson as Red Hood, but that's stupid), and so forth.
  • Zod's corpse? I guess those rumors about Doomsday are true. Not sure how I feel about that.
  • Mercy Graves is awesome.
  • Kryptonite = awesome. That should have been in Man of Steel instead of the weird atmosphere stuff.
  • Gal Gadot is winning me over. I didn't quite love the casting before, but after seeing this, I'm starting to buy into her.
  • Batman looks fucking SIIIIIIIIIIIIICK in action!
  • That Bat Cave…seriously…OMG. I love it.
During the panel, Zack Snyder also revealed a few other things:
  • Metropolis and Gotham City are sister cities on opposite ends of the same bay. This is something that they can play around with, as there's never truly a definitive explanation of where these two cities are located in relation to one another.
  • He wrote a part specifically for Holly Hunter to be in the film because he wanted to work with Holly Hunter. This bothers me, because this kind of stuff shouldn't happen. I still maintain that a role like Hunter's should not be a brand new character, but something from the comics, and it certainly shouldn't have been created just to get an actor in the movie. General Swanwick should have been General Sam Lane and Colonel Hardy was unnecessary and took time away from establishing some others. We had no Jimmy Olsen, but we had Jenny Jurwich? This movie has Scoot McNairy in an original role and Holly Hunter, but no Lucius Fox?
I'm more excited about the movie than I was before, but I still have my reservations. Who they haven't screwed up from Batman's characters (hopefully, Dick Grayson is off being Nightwing in Bludhaven, Jena Malone is Oracle, Jim Gordon and Lucius Fox are still alive, Jason Todd's the dead Robin and Tim Drake hasn't been recruited yet, etc); how Lex Luthor is represented on screen, and how much time is wasted on Scott McNairy and Holly Hunter; and whether or not Doomsday is a bastardization of himself will play big into whether or not I like it, similar to how those kind of elements ruined Man of Steel for me even if the overall story of the film was good, just the same as this overall story seems great.

Dawn of Justice Dick Grayson killed in Batman v Superman
Above all else, don't screw this up and have this be Dick Grayson!!!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released in theaters March 25, 2016.

Directed by: Zack Snyder
Written by: Chris Terrio (written by), David S. Goyer (written by), Jerry Siegel (Superman created by), Joe Shuster (Superman created by), Bob Kane (Batman created by)
Starring: Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne / Batman), Henry Cavill (Clark Kent / Superman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince / Wonder Woman), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Holly Hunter (US Senator), and Jason Momoa (Arthur Curry / Aquaman)
Fearing the actions of a god-like super hero left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis's most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before.

It's happening, everyone. One of the most influential Batman stories of all time is going to be translated into animated form!

Following in the footsteps of films such as Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman: Year One, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - Part 1 and 2, the trend will continue with Batman: The Killing Joke!

DC animated Killing Joke Alan Moore film adaptation

While those films may not be perfect and the same kind of review could go to the other adaptations for Superman arcs and Justice League stories, one thing's for sure: they capture the spirit of the original work and present it in a way that is easier to digest for people who may not be too keen to pick up the actual books.

Even if you're unfamiliar with The Killing Joke, if you've played the Arkham games or you've watched Tim Burton's Batman film or paid attention to pretty much anything Batman-related since the story originally came out in 1988, you definitely know bits and pieces of it.

The Killing Joke was written by Alan Moore and is about the backstory of The Joker (or at least, one of them, as it has never been confirmed). The man who may or may not be named Jack Napier attempts to prove that all it takes to make a monster like himself is "one bad day" of tragedy to happen to someone and they'll snap. He tries to illustrate this to Batman and Commissioner Gordon while doing some of the most horrible things imaginable, including paralyzing Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl).

This comic is the reason the Oracle character exists. It's the reason why the Red Hood is such an integral part of Jason Todd's story. It's quite possibly even the comic where Batman KILLS The Joker. Whaaaaat? Yeah, you heard me.

Mark Hamill, whom many (myself included) consider to be the voice of The Joker, has said numerous times in the past that he wanted to do an adaptation of The Killing Joke and it would definitely seem as though he would be involved in this, although that hasn't been confirmed. Imagine if both he and Kevin Conroy are able to do this together, especially with someone like Bryan Cranston returning to voice Jim Gordon and maybe even Melissa Gilbert or Tara Strong to return as Batgirl!

Also announced for 2016 were the titles Batman: Bad Blood and Justice League vs. Titans, which could all be cool in their own right, but come on, that's small news compared to The Killing Joke!

Are you as pumped about this as I am? Who would be your perfect cast for the different roles in this film? Tell us what's on your mind by leaving a comment below!

Easily the most anticipated film of 2015 is Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, and while yours truly is trying to stay away from learning damn near anything about it beforehand, I'm failing miserably at that. Naturally, when I heard that Hall H at this year's San Diego Comic Con would be revealing some information, I tried to shut my eyes but checked it out anyway.

Among various different things that were spoken about, one thing stood out to me in particular: the confirmation of Domhnall Gleeson's character as General Hux, a villain who is described by Gleeson as flat-out evil.

Star Wars Episode 7 General Hux Force Awakens photos
Photo courtesy of @PopCultBinge on Twitter

General Hux will be in command of the First Order and operate out of their headquarters, dubbed Starkiller Base—something many fans of the Star Wars franchise should recognize, as Luke Skywalker was originally named Luke Starkiller and the name would resurface later on as a pseudonym of Galen Marek, the protagonist of the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game series.

While this all sounds cool, I have to admit that it upsets me. I was really holding out hope that Gleeson would be revealed as Ben Skywalker, Luke's son. He bears a strong enough resemblance to Mark Hamill that it wasn't out of the realm of possibility, and I don't like the idea of our two protagonists being Rey and Finn, particularly if Poe Dameron is the tertiary hero. Those three don't stand out to me, but even something as simple as Luke naming his son after Obi-Wan Kenobi was an idea I've absolutely loved, so not having that be canon is disappointing.

Nevertheless, despite how many reservations I have about what I've seen so far and how afraid I am that I won't like this movie, I'm still absolutely pumped and I can't wait to see it.

What are your thoughts on General Hux? Are you sad that Gleeson isn't Ben Skywalker like I am, or are you happy we won't be seeing that character come to life on the big screen? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens will be released in theaters December 18, 2015.

Directed by: J.J. Abrams
Written by: J.J. Abrams (screenplay), Lawrence Kasdan (screenplay), George Lucas (characters)
Starring: Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong'o (Maz Kanata), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), and Harrison Ford (Han Solo)

Ever since Jay Garrick's helmet popped up in season one of CW's The Flash television series, fans have been speculating whether it was just a mere Easter egg or if it was a sign of something bigger.

Now, there's confirmation that the original speedster will be making an actual physical appearance in season two!

DC's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns—a man responsible for notable works within The Flash comics itself, amongst other things—spoke of the situation by stating "That's not an Easter egg, that's a story point. We're going to see Jay."

UPDATE: Masters of Sex star Teddy Sears has been cast as Jay Garrick!

Flash helmet Jay Garrick season 2

For those who are unfamiliar with how important this is, let me give you a quick backstory. The Flash has not always been Barry Allen, as the mantle's been passed along to Wally West and Bart Allen over the years. Even before Barry, though, it was held by Jay Garrick, who had much less impressive powers and looked kind of ridiculous, but is nonetheless responsible for starting it all, similar to how Alan Scott was the first Green Lantern before Hal Jordan usurped the position (thankfully).

The ability to transition from Jay to Barry and Alan to Hal dates back to the storyline Flash of Two Worlds where it was established that Jay Garrick was indeed The Flash, but in the parallel dimension of Earth-Two. This would allow both Jay and Barry to coexist outside of the other's story before things were merged together, ripped apart again, and so on and so forth to make what was already confusing even more impossible to follow. Since the first season revolved around the Flashpoint story arc, could Jay Garrick's role somehow tie into an interpretation of Crisis on Infinite Earths?

Does that mean we might see Wally West or Bart Allen this year, too? Are you excited about this reveal? Tell us what you're thinking in the comments below!

The Flash season 2 is set to premiere Tuesday, October 6, 2015.

The San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing right now, and as such, news and rumors are flying about thicker than a swarm of Fanboys. Every year the event seems to get bigger, and even though some heavyweights like Marvel Studios are missing from this year's lineup, there is plenty left to be excited about. Warner Bros. and DC Comics, in particular, have shown up with their A-game, and now just a day or two before their main event, some news has leaked about what will surely be one of this franchise's most lucrative pieces.

geoff johns dc comics dcu batman ben affleck joker jared leto harley quinn margot robbie comic-con

Ben Affleck, DC's current Batman, will not only direct a solo film about the character (reportedly titled The Batman) to be released in 2018, but also is co-writing the screenplay with none other than DC Comics' chief creative officer, Geoff Johns.

For those of you unfamiliar with Johns, and now recovering from the alternate squeals of delight or rage-screams of frustration from comic fans everywhere, he is DC's most prolific comic creator in the modern era. He has written for just about every major character in the DC Universe since his hiring in the early 2000s and has injected new life into dozens of older or less-popular characters.

His chief creative officer title, though, also means he has a hand in every incarnation of DC characters in other media. He has worked on Smallville, Arrow, and The Flash and written several episodes of DC's well-received animated shows. He has consulted on the popular Arkham franchise of video games and is basically responsible for representing DC characters anywhere they appear.

batman dc comics warner bros geoff johns jim lee justice league ben affleck superman henry cavill gal gadot wonder woman
Even terrible live shows that exist for... I don't know why.
Seriously, was there a lot of demand for a staged Batman show?
Reportedly, he and Affleck get on well and have already written some of the screenplay they hope to deliver before the end of summer. Affleck would direct and star in the production after his recently-greenlit Live By Night, a Prohibition-era gangster tale adapted from the novel by Dennis Lehane, the author of what became Affleck's directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone. The movie would also see production and release after WB's first Justice League movie, part one of two, slated to be released in November 2017.

What is the story? Who will be in it? It's almost impossible to say at this point. The DC Cinematic Universe hasn't even begun yet, not really. We've had Man of Steel, but the true test of what this new mega-franchise will be comes with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March 2016. Once we've seen who this new Batman is and what his world is like, we might start to make some educated guesses about what his story will be.

batman v superman dan of justice justice league wonder woman aquaman flash green lantern ben affleck warner bros dc comics batmobile arkham
Besides gloomy and dead parents-y.
For now, we can assume that in addition to Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons will return as Alfred. It's probable, too, that Jared Leto's Joker will feature in at least one film, and with him Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. Will Smith's Deadshot is an erstwhile Batman villain, too, so there is a chance we'll see him as well as some other cast members of the upcoming Suicide Squad like Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Killer Croc or Ike Barinholtz's Hugo Strange (whom I didn't even realize was a character in Suicide Squad until literally this moment).

We reported awhile ago that Affleck was under consideration, and perhaps even likely, to direct his own Batman film. The announcement of Geoff Johns' involvement, however, is big. Johns recently released a second volume of his updated comic take on the Dark Knight, Batman: Earth One, Volume Two. DC's Earth One series is meant to be a more modern, standalone take on DC's most popular characters, and a look at those could give us a glimpse as to what kind of Batman we'll get in 3 years. Still, Johns' name was also attached to the disastrous Green Lantern, though in an advisory capacity, not as a screenwriter. He's someone who loves comics deeply, and hopefully this gives him a better chance to express his passion.

Do you think this dynamic duo has what it takes to craft a good Batman movie? Will it be as good or maybe better than Christopher Nolan's take on the character, or is it inevitably going to be terrible? Leave your bat-comments below!

Hey there Fanboys and Fangirls. The Dace Man is back with some more San Diego Comic Con news. It's the time of the year where we, the nerds, get to rejoice in the coming year of all things geeky.

In this bit of news, CW has officially announced the next big baddie in the Arrow franchise. Oliver Queen will have his hands full when he goes toe-to-toe with Damien Darhk. This was hinted at last season; while Oliver squared up with Ra's al Ghul, Damien Darhk  briefly visited Starling City.

Arrow Season 4 news and rumors

Darhk will be played by Justified's Neal McDonough, or better known to the comic book fan nation as Dum Dum Duggan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

UPDATE: Anarky will also be a villain for the next season, but the Arrow team will be getting a new ally with Mr. Terrific!

Season 4 of Arrow is set to premiere on Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

Once upon a time, the only money that you would spend on a video game would be when you bought the game itself. Busting a block with Mario's head to collect coins or earning fake monetary credits to spend within a game to purchase new weapons and armor are a far cry from what's actually in your wallet in real life.

Infinite coins in Super Mario Bros video games
Money doesn't grow on trees, it comes out of boxes on Mario's head. Duh.
But this has changed and now, video games have adapted to include true cash in a multitude of different ways.

For instance, Facebook's gaming app database slowly but surely implemented coins which could be used essentially as cheat codes. If you were too impatient to level up the hard way or wait for more free games to be playable, you could break out your credit card and buy the ability to skip past these restrictions. Those imaginary credits that would earn you the extra clothes to customize your character were now things you would have to pay for.

Mobile apps adopted that same philosophy as well. You can pay to play the game and the developers will also earn ad revenue, but there's almost always going to be an option to buy something to go along with the game on top of that.

Candy Crush, a game that can be played on both platforms, follows the same mentality of allowing its players the opportunity to buy upgrades to help with those frustrating levels that seem impossible. It has been dubbed the most addictive online game ever, with some reports saying that people overall spend almost $650 thousand a day on the game. Thankfully, that's not each particular person, but if you break that down amongst its 700 million-something users, everyone is playing their part.

What do you think the next step for how real money is tied into gaming? What does the future have in store for things like PayPal and Bitcoin in regards to online gaming? Tell us your theories and thoughts in the comments below!

Yup, I'm back again. The Dace Man here bringing you the latest news from the Marvel camp! The head honchos over at The Marvel Television Division have found Matt Murdock his Elektra Natchios.

After the announcement of Jon Berenthal taking over as The Punisher in the upcoming season of Daredevil and the production stills hitting the web, we have more exciting news from one of Netflix's number one shows.

Marvel has just announced that fan favorite character Elektra Natchios will be portrayed by Elodie Yung, who appeared in G.I. Joe: Retaliation as Jinx.

Daredevil Elodie Yung cast photos Elektra Natchios season 2

Elektra was briefly mentioned in a flashback sequence with Foggy Nelson and Matt Murdock and was long rumored to be making an appearance in the next season, but now we know this to be for sure and who will bring the character to life on the small screen.

Elektra was previously portrayed by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 Daredevil film which later spawned its own critically-panned spinoff Elektra.

Season 2 of Daredevil hits Netflix in mid 2016. You can check out the poster released to tease Elektra below.

Netflix Daredevil season 2 production stills

The Netflix hit took the Internet by storm when it released a few months back, climbing to number one spot. News has been flooding from the Marvel camp about casting and story arcs that may or may not happen in season two.

One thing that is certain is these shots from the set of Hell's Kitchen! Take a look at the cast in action from these shots by Shelly Kay.

Sure, there are no shots of Jon Berenthal as The Punisher or any signs of Kingpin or Elektra, but hey, it's good to see Matt Murdock out and about on the streets of New York City!

Huzzah, Dacetacular Nation! The Dace Man is back with the latest scoop about Hollywood and the wonderful world of animation.

Seven weeks ago, we were left with a tweet from the legendary Harry Shearer indicating he would not be returning to the beloved franchise, The Simpsons. The fan nation was in a panic and left not knowing what would become of favorite characters such as Ned Flanders and Mr. Burns.

News broke today that Shearer, along with Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, and Hank Azaria, all signed back on for an additional four seasons at an estimated $300,000 per episode. The main cast is now guaranteed for the 27th and 28th season with the option of a 29th and 30th if the network renews.

Hello and welcome once again Fanboys and Fangirls. The Dace Man is back with more entertainment news, this time stemming from the castle down in Florida.

It was announced today by Lucas Films that the next installment in the Star Wars saga will focus on the legendary smuggler who made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs with the Millennium Falcon. That's right, my friends, Han Solo will be getting his very own film.

Han Solo Film news and rumors

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, best known for The Lego Movie, will be taking on the challenge of bringing a much younger Solo to the screen for a much younger generation. Here's what they had to say upon the announcement:
"This is the first film we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you've loved since before you can remember having dreams at all."
The Han Solo film has been written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasda and will focus on Solo's younger years. Before the days of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker finding the scruffy looking nerf herder in Mos Eisley, the film will dive into what he was doing before Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

Solo's solo film is set to hit theaters May 25th 2018.

What is up Dacetacular Fanboys? Chris "The Dace Man" Dace back again with some exciting news…or depressing, however you read into it. If you read the title of this article you know Amazon is celebrating a milestone coming up. The Internet shopping juggernaut is turning 20. Yeah, 20 years ago when yours truly was in first grade, Amazon became a thing.

Amazon Prime July 15th Deals

In honor of this historic event, Amazon is having Black Friday–like sales starting July 15th, but bigger. Pretty sweet huh? Well there's one catch: you have to be an Amazon Prime member. Given the title of "Prime Day," July 15th will consist of deals bigger than you would see on the infamous day after Thanksgiving as an initiative to drive consumers to purchase Prime membership.

So the question is: Are you going to subscribe to Prime for the deals, or are you gonna be up at midnight July 15th to score some sweet swag, because you're already a Prime Member? Whatever the day holds for Internet consumer, I feel sorry for UPS, FedEx, and USPS on Friday the 17th with all the packages they will have.
