Week in Geek #93: Coronavirus Cancels Pop Culture and More

Posted by Anthony Mango Saturday, March 14, 2020
Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Black Widow Final Trailer

Hm....so maybe my theory that Rachel Weisz is playing Taskmaster isn't true.

As far as the content goes, it hasn't changed my opinions about the movie. I'm seeing it opening night, it'll probably be super good, but the trailers haven't stood out to me as anything special and I still feel like Black Widow should've gotten her own movie in Phase 2 or this should have been released after Civil War and not come out now.

Everything Cancelled Due to the Coronavirus

One by one, everything is being postponed or outright cancelled due to the coronavirus. This sucks in so many ways that I'm sure we have no idea the full scope about.

TRON TV Series Plans for Disney+ Scrapped

Apparently, there was going to be a TV series for the TRON franchise on Disney+ but they decided to not move forward with the project.

While we have no idea what the project was and if the ideas were good for it, that sucks. I don't like the original film, but I think TRON: Legacy was a lot of fun (with an amazing soundtrack) and I feel like they're not tapping into some serious potential here.

Roberto Orci hired for Untitled Spider-Man Film

Orci, who helped co-write The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is going to do a film for Sony in this "Spider-Man Universe of Marvel Characters" thing that I really hate. Orci (and Alex Kurtzman) have done some great stuff in the past and had some flops, too, so I don't know how to feel about that other than that I have no faith this project will be a good idea outright just based on Sony's track record.
