Week in Geek #14: No More Most Popular Oscar, RIP Burt Reynolds and More

Posted by Anthony Mango Saturday, September 8, 2018
Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Ben Mendelsohn will be a Skrull in Captain Marvel

Dude was born to play villains. I'm 100% down with him being a Skrull.

Timothy Dalton Cast in Doom Patrol

My favorite James Bond! I'm always cool with him getting more work. I wanted him to be Alfred in a Batman film at some point, but this is neat, too.

Burt Reynolds Passed Away

I'm not the type to immediately start talking about how much I loved a celebrity that I didn't necessarily follow the career of, but he was good in Boogie Nights and some other things, and it's never a good thing to hear that someone has passed on.

No More Oscar for Popular Film

There were flaws to this concept, but also positives, so I have a mixed reaction. A good thing about this going away is that it will allow films like Black Panther to be taken more seriously for Best Picture, instead of having a divide between Oscar-bait going into Best Picture and other films going into Most Popular. The downside, though, is that this award could have given many more films some recognition that wouldn't normally get it, and if we all would have approached it as an equal to Best Picture, then it could have really changed the game for a lot of things. I guess you take the good and bad.

Daredevil Season 3 Teaser

....that's it?

These weeks have had such little going on. Sorry for not having more content.
