Unfortunately, due to the constant uncertainty of a renewal, many of the beloved Greendale Community College students won't be showing up because the stars playing those roles sought work elsewhere. Last season, the show lost Troy Barnes (Donald Glover) and Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase), and it was recently announced that Shirley Bennett will be missing this season because Yvette Nicole Brown will be taking care of a family emergency. The gang has effectively been cut in half, and we can't expect Professor Ian Duncan or Buzz Hickey to be returning on a regular basis, either. Needless to say, this hopeful sixth season got the wind knocked out of it quickly. Luckily, the Dacetacular one has some good news for Community fans.
Joining the already enlisted students and faculty at Greendale will be Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) and Keith David (Enlisted). Brewster will play Francesca "Frankie" Dart, an advisor brought in to help Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) and the faculty spruce up the school. David will play Elroy Patashnik, a retired scientist looking to reinvent himself. Fans of the show should recognize Keith David for appearing on episode 14 of season 3, "Pillows and Blankets" as the narrator of the documentary, as well as having been a principal member of the cast of the show The Cape, which has frequently been referenced on Community over the years.
The sixth season of Community is set to air exclusively on Yahoo! in early 2015.
