From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Welcome to another edition of Wed, Bed, or Dead—the Fanboys Anonymous equivalent to games such as Marry/Fuck/Kill, or "Kill, Bang, Marry" or any of those other alternative names with the same "would you rather" ranking concept.

If you're unfamiliar with these games, here are the rules: three men or women will be pitted against each other and you are forced to place each of them into a specific category of your choosing. You cannot double up on any category, replace people, or anything else. You must pick one to "Wed" (marry), one to "Bed" (have sex with), and for "Dead" (kill)—in theory, of course.

There are 4 female leads in the film Suicide Squad, so to do this, we had to remove one of them. Amanda Waller didn't make the cut because she is the manipulator of the bunch, rather than being on the team (even though Enchantress is the primary villain of the film rather than a teammate, her human counterpart was still a member of Task Force X).

For those who are unaware with the characters, Enchantress is an ancient witch who possesses Dr. June Moon, played by actress/model Cara Delevingne. Harley Quinn is The Joker's psychotic girlfriend —a former shrink (Dr. Harleen Quinzel) gone mad, played by Margot Robbie. Lastly, Katana is Tatsu Yamashiro—a samurai who can trap the souls of the people she kills inside her sword, played by Karen Fukuhara.


As attractive as Cara Delevingne is, she's possessed by a freaking witch. I'll admit that there was something eerily sexy about her when she was in Enchantress-mode, but she's still a creepazoid who really needs to take a shower, so you have to rule out the Wed option right off the start and narrow it down to Bed or Dead. Considering how the other two are somehow less villainous and won't convert you into a faceless goop of a creature, she has to be killed.

That same factor goes into why Katana gets the "marry" equivalent while Harley is just a one night stand. All three women are incredible when it comes to their appearances, although I'd give the edge to Margot Robbie as being the most attractive. She's a lunatic, though, while Katana isn't. Harley would likely be amazing in bed and then you'd have to skip town and hope she never tracks you down. Katana, on the other hand, while being more reserved, is still extremely good looking and on top of that, is still super loyal to her husband despite him being just a deceased soul residing in her weapon. That's dedication right there. Without a doubt, Katana makes the best wife of the three of them, Harley has her issues but is the most fun and overall the hottest, and Enchantress, albeit a beautiful girl, has far too much baggage weighing her down.

Welcome to another edition of 6 Flicks Picks, wherein I list all of the upcoming films that are scheduled to be released in the United States for the month which is about to begin and break down which ones I'll be watching in theaters, which ones I'll wait to rent at home, and which ones I'll be skipping out on entirely. After going through the list, I'll choose which six films stand out to me as the ones I want to see the most, even if there are more or less than six that interest me.

Note: The list below is based primarily off the expanded nationwide USA release dates on IMDB as well as some other random outlets if possible, so some information may be different. If I am missing some of the limited releases or the dates conflict in some fashion, please let me know in the comments below and any adjustments and corrections will be made!

Blood Father

In Order of Disappearance

Synopsis: The honorable citizen Nils ploughs snow in the wild winter mountains of Norway, when his son is mistakenly murdered, Nils takes action, which ignites a war between the vegan gangster "the Count" and the Serbian mafia boss Papa.

Synopsis: As a man contemplates moving to a new state with his wife for her graduate program, an old flame - a woman who often changes identities - reenters his life at a birthday dinner party.

The Hollars

Synopsis: A man returns to his small hometown after learning that his mother has fallen ill and is about to undergo surgery.

Will I watch? = Maybe


Which films make the cut?

6. Anthropoid / Hands of Stone — Neither of these seem particularly awesome, but I'm stretching for movies this month. It's a tie between both Anthropoid and Hands of Stone as I can't distinguish which historical drama about a topic I don't necessarily care about I would want to sit through. Both seem to be at least decent, and I like some of the actors in both, so it's almost a wash.

5. Ben-Hur — I should want to see this movie more than I do, considering how it's a remake of a classic. However, as much as I may lose some credibility, I've never seen the original. I have a feeling this could be a rather big flop, but it's at least something more up my alley than a lot of the other options available in August.

4. The Hollars — There's too much dark, depressing stuff on my list, and this trailer seemed kind of comforting. The cast is charming and while I didn't uproariously laugh at the jokes, it felt like this could be a good heartstrings film that is a breath of fresh air. Plus, I may have a crush on Anna Kendrick, and by "may," I mean "definitely."

3. War Dogs — I don't know why, but since the first trailer I saw of this, I've been interested. Fundamentally, it could be just another basic "somewhat humorous drama" that we've seen before, but I'm still intrigued.

2. Sausage Party — I'm not as enthusiastic about this as I wanted to be, as the more I see of it, the less I find the concept funny, but I still have chuckled here and there, so I'll be checking it out sometime down the line regardless.

1. Suicide Squad — You can't give me a Batman movie and not expect it to be the film I want to see the most in that particular month.

In a time where reboots, sequels, and prequels flood through Hollywood into our local theaters, Swiss Army Man comes to bring originality back to the film industry. What looks by the trailer to be a mixture of Cast Away and Weekend At Bernie's turns out to be a truly imaginative and thought-provoking film about humanity and all that it entitles, explained in such an unorthodox way that it will either make or break it for any audience member.

Debuting at the Sundance film festival, the film was met with polarizing responses. Some were applauding the film's appeal, while others would walk out halfway through. In a way, the seemingly ridiculous plot does make some scratch their heads. The story tells of Hank Thompson (Paul Dano), who is on the brink of suicide after being stranded on a deserted island for some time. As he is about to give into death, he sees a dead body float onto shore, a man named Manny (Daniel Radcliffe), and finds that the body has magical abilities that allow Hank to use him as a tool of sorts, which Hank uses to try to save himself and find a way back to civilization.

Writers and directors of the film "Daniels" (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) use their quirkiness when directing their past short films and music videos as a tool to elevate this material to expert heights. What they are able to do well compared to other films that try to be odd and different is that they never try to convince the audience that anything happening in front of them makes sense. Rather, they make the film feel as though it exists in its own world, separate from the one we're used to. The way they use the environment in the production design aspect makes the film glow with scenery, and the vastness of the wilderness these characters explore make the settings feel natural, and when seeing the ending of the film gives it all a whole new context to work with. The film is also terrifically paced, and running just under 100 minutes, it is the perfect length for a great sitting.


The script of the film knows the absurdity of everything and just runs with its ideas. It constantly makes the audience question the validity of the characters' knowledge and makes you question whether anything you are seeing is actually happening or not. Nevertheless, it is the characters of Hank and Manny and their relationship with each other that gives this film a layer of depth not seen in the trailer. The performances by Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe are nothing short of fantastic, and their chemistry further binds the connection they have as friends. Radcliffe plays a dead body marvelously, but it is the fact that he did all his own stunts in the film that gives the performance a new context. For his part Paul Dano expresses all of the insecurities that we have as people and proves to be an excellent foil for Radcliffe's child-like character.


Overall, Swiss Army Man provides a film experience unlike anything I have ever seen. It is full of energy and weirdness that is not shaded away from for a single second. The performances are excellent, the script is unique and intelligent, and it is downright entertaining. If you are looking for a film that is different and this looks like your cup of tea, definitely check it out.
