This group of Legend of Zelda cosplayers definitely caught our attention! The Navi cosplayer stayed in character the entire con, chasing people around the con and shouting "Hey! Listen!" and "Watch out!"







I saw this cosplay while eating lunch and I just had to approach her. The pictures truly do not do this cosplay justice. I cannot for the life of me remember just what she was cosplaying, but I couldn't leave this cosplay out.


This Maka Albarn cosplayer, from Soul Eater, was traveling with the previous cosplayer. It seems that good cosplayers travel in groups! It's obvious she put a lot of effort in to her prop and thought into her cosplay.


This Kiki cosplay, from Kiki's Delivery Service, is a simple yet wonderful piece. Kiki's Delivery Service is a film by the very popular Japanese film director and artist, Hayou Miyazaki.


Assassin's Creed is by far one of my favorite video games. I was ecstatic to see such a talented Assassin's Creed cosplayer. Both her outfit and her props were splendidly made—she even had a functional hidden blade!


We found this gorgeous pair when leaving the People Mover! The picture does not do their face paint and custom lenses justice, trust me. They were cosplaying as their own original characters.


I enjoyed these cosplays of these characters from the Dragonball series, but what really caught our attention was the Flying Nimbus they had created that was even capable of moving. I saw them wheeling around the convention on their Flying Nimbus on more than one occasion!


This Lucy Cosplayer from Elfen Lied made Stephen and I immediately become giddy! We're both huge fans of that anime, and she was the first cosplayer in the many, many conventions we have attended to actually create the vectors. She said that this was her very first cosplay that she has ever put together.

Cosplay and Comic Con go hand in hand like cats and the Internet. With the introduction of Heroes of Cosplay and the ever-expanding roster of "celebrity cosplayers" appearing at cons, I'd like to take this opportunity to celebrate spirited participants—those who do not have a lot of time or resources to put into their cosplay yet nonetheless nail the costume.

My issue with celebrity invading the world of cosplay is that it elevates some people above others. I started wearing costumes to conventions 6 years ago, and part of what made it so fun was the instant camaraderie of meeting other people in corresponding costumes. It was fun to celebrate common interests, yell quotes at each other, and compare notes about con experiences.

As a person who loves to make things, I marveled at the different methods used to make the costumes. I am a seamstress, so I am all fabric, all the way. I would see costumes composed of all store-bought components, some of unorthodox materials like plastic tubing and spray paint, and some of carefully molded foam. I don't think anyone should be excluded from the fun or looked down upon because they are wearing cardboard and spray paint. I think what makes for good cosplay is when your character is identifiable, and not how much money you spent.

Following are some of the most fun costumes I saw at Boston Comic Con:

Does she win Mother of the Year Award or what? Pikachu and Bob's Burger characters.

Speedy. This cosplayer said most of the garment components were from Wal-Mart and the bow was her own; she had just created a slip cover to make it the correct color.

Constantine has a new show coming out this fall, so be ready to see more of this guy!

Photographer Greg De Stefano has taken the Playboy Bunny concept and applied it to the Batman mythos in a new cosplay set dubbed "Gotham Bunnies / Arkham Bunnies." It features the cosplayer team Skirts and Swords as a loungewear Batman surrounded by female versions of various male and female Batman villains, including Two-Face, Harley Quinn, the Riddler, Scarecrow, and even the Penguin. This was inspired by the art of Milkydayy (Oskar Vega), with a special thanks to Erin Nakashima and MUA for some of the makeup work. The queen of cosplay is at it again! We've already seen Jessica Nigri tribute Pokémon before with costumes of Pikachu and Ash Ketchum. This time she opts for something more royal and lazy with Slowking.

Number three on my Top 7 is Jessica Nigri's version of Iron Man that she's titled Ironette. Typically, you'd see the Iron Man suit as something that goes for maximum body coverage. Jessica decided to take it a different route and opt for minimal protection, but I don't think anyone would dare attack this beauty anyway.
