6 Flicks Picks for November 2019 Movie Release Schedule

Posted by Anthony Mango - Friday, November 1, 2019

Welcome to another edition of 6 Flicks Picks, wherein I list all of the upcoming films that are scheduled to be released in the United States for the month which is about to begin and break down which ones I'll be watching in theaters, which ones I'll wait to rent at home, and which ones I'll be skipping out on entirely. After going through the list, I'll choose which six films stand out to me as the ones I want to see the most, even if there are more or less than six that interest me.

Note: The list below is based primarily off the expanded nationwide USA release dates on IMDB as well as some other random outlets if possible, so some information may be different. If I am missing some of the limited releases or the dates conflict in some fashion, please let me know in the comments below and any adjustments and corrections will be made!

Without further ado, another new month means another new set of films, so what's coming soon to theaters in November 2019?

6 FLICKS PICKS

Which films make the cut?

Honorable Mentions — Charlie's Angels is a Netflix at best. Ford v Ferrari doesn't make the cut because I'm not at all interested in racing or cars. Frozen II, I'm sure I'll see at some point, but not in theaters. The Good Liar, I'm waiting on reviews.

6. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood — I was never the biggest fan of Mr. Rogers, but this seems like something we could all use right now.

5. 21 Bridges — Something about this film, whether it's the Russos and/or Boseman just makes me think it's worth a watch.

4. Knives Out — Big cast. Could be fun.

3. Doctor Sleep — I'm not even a big Shining fan like with the MCU or something, but this has me very intrigued.

2. The Irishman — It's Scorsese and with that cast. C'mon. Goodfellas is awesome.

1. Terminator: Dark Fate — This is going to be disgusting, but of course I'm going to see it. T2 is my favorite movie of all time. It's going to crap all over that, but I have to at least try to give it a chance.

6 FLICKS PICKS

Which films make the cut? Well, this is a month with not a lot going on. There are only three movies I actually plan on seeing and the other three picks are stretching it.

6. Black and Blue — Countdown sounds more interesting, but I can't find a single trailer for it, so it had to get bumped. Black and Blue feels like someone just wanted to tap into the #BlackLivesMatter vs. #BlueLivesMatter argument and there might not be more substance beyond that. But maybe the performances are good, as the cast seems well-rounded.

5. The Addams Family — This looks awful. I hate the animation and the jokes haven't made me laugh except for the one about the tree. But I liked the two movies as a kid, so it gets a pass, even if I know I'm not actually going to see it.

4. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil — I saw the first. I guess I'd see the second on this weak month.

3. Zombieland: Double Tap — I enjoyed the first one far more than I thought I would, so I'll definitely check this out.

2. Gemini Man — Interesting premise. Fun trailer. Cool song. Good cast. Yup. I'm in.

1. Joker — It's a movie about my favorite villain in all of fiction. Of course I'm seeing this. I feel like it'll either be a masterpiece Elseworlds tale or the biggest masturbatory waste of potential, but so far, it looks beyond interesting, and I'm pumped.

6 FLICKS PICKS

Which films make the cut?

6. The Goldfinch — This or Rambo for the last spot, and since I haven't seen the other Rambo movies, I'll just toss this out there, but I'm not actually going to see it.

5. The Hunt — Zero interest in seeing this, but it's a weak month, and I'd rather watch something that the government feels is bad than to watch just some movie about Judy Garland or whatever.

4. Abominable — It might be cute. What's up with all these yeti movies this year, though? This is the third. It's like the only two ideas Hollywood had heading into 2019 were "yeti" and "dog movie" since a new one comes out every other month.

3. 21 Bridges — This legitimately looks good.

2. Ad Astra — This legitimately looks good, too.

1. It: Chapter Two — I saw the Tim Curry edition and the first part of this reboot. Of course I'll see this.

6 FLICKS PICKS

Which films make the cut? Well, to be honest, I don't think I'm seeing a single one of these this month. This is a rough, rough month, and it may be the worst August that I can remember in YEARS. This is one of those loss months for AMC A-List in my mind, as I think I'm going to be spending $25 for absolutely nothing. Maybe I'll try to find the time to check out Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or another Spider-Man viewing to make up for it, if those are still playing.

6. Angel Has Fallen — I'm more inclined to see a generic action flick (even if I haven't seen the other two) than something like Dora.

5. The Informer — Weak month. This at least plays more to my likes and dislikes than some of the other things, even if I don't think it looks super engaging.

4. The Peanut Butter Falcon — Mick Foley and Jake Roberts are in this, so since my other site is about pro wrestling, I feel like this would be a work-related thing.

3. Good Boys — Purely on the strength of Superbad and, to a lesser extent, Neighbors.

2. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw — I still haven't seen a single one of these movies, but I'm tempted to binge them all and then watch this.

Which films make the cut?

6. The Art of Self-Defense — At least if I'm seeing a comedy, I might laugh once.

3. Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood — Admittedly, as much as I LOVE Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, I haven't been as impressed by Quentin Tarantino's last bunch of films. But I'll still give it a shot.

2. The Lion King — The Lion King is one of my 3 favorite Disney films (the other two being Aladdin and Toy Story) so of course I'm seeing this.

6 FLICKS PICKS

Which films make the cut?

#6 and #5. Rocketman and Godzilla: King of the Monsters — Technically, these come out May 31st, but I'm cheating and adding them into here because technically, I'm not going to get a chance to see both on the same day and June 1st would be when I would have a chance to go and see one or the other. Ha. That's how you get around picking another one of these duds. I'm not into Child's Play. I don't like the quirk of The Dead Don't Die. I haven't seen The Secret Life of Pets 1, so I can't see the sequel yet.

4. Shaft — I had seen the previous Shaft film, so why not?

3. Men in Black: International — While this franchise isn't something I'm inherently super duper fond of, they do have value and this does look like it could be fun.

2. Dark Phoenix — Boy, the X-Men films have been really hit or miss, haven't they? I have little to no faith in this, but it's still an X-Men movie.

1. Toy Story 4 — Don't make me cry. Don't make me cry. Don't make me cry.

5. Rocketman — I have no personal attachment to Elton John, but it looks interesting, and I was into Bohemian Rhapsody despite no connection to Mercury.

4. Godzilla: King of the Monsters — As a kid, I always liked Godzilla movies, even though they were cheesy as hell, so of course I'll see this. But even ignoring that, this movie looks visually beautiful. Mothra alone, c'mon.

3. Brightburn — "What if Superman grew up to be evil?" You have me sold.

2. Pokemon: Detective Pikachu — X.

1. Aladdin — Along with The Lion King and Toy Story, Aladdin is tied to be my favorite animated movie of all time.

6 FLICKS PICKS

Which films make the cut?

6. Finding Steve McQueen — I haven't seen the trailer, but the premise alone is more interesting already than most of the other options.

5. Greta — You see, kids, never help someone out.

4. Hotel Mumbai — Generally speaking, give me a drama about something like this over any of the typical "harrowing story of 18th century candlemakers in Belgium" thing.

3. Captive State — Yooooo I don't really know what to think of this yet, but it looks interesting as hell.

2. Us — Get Out was good. This looks trippy. I'm sold.

1. Captain Marvel — Duh. It's the MCU. This series literally takes priority over everything nowadays.
