Week in Geek #40: Shortlist for Batman, Idris Elba Deadshot and More

Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

First True Look at Sonic the Hedgehog

Why does this look so freaky? What's up with the eyes? Why do I feel like they're staring into my soul? I don't know what I was expecting, but I don't like this. Maybe this should have just been a more animated CGI type affair.

Shazam Trailer #2

I really hope this is good, cause the humor looks like it's on point. Please don't suck. I've liked everything I've seen so far though, so yaay.

Arrow Ending Next Season

There will be only 10 episodes next season, which will be the final season of the show. Good. The show had some good things going on that I'm very happy they did with the formula, but they quickly ran themselves into the grown with the Olicity stuff and not knowing how to balance their love for wanting the show to be Batman without being Batman. I've now actually gotten to the point where I don't feel like I need to watch the past few episodes of The Flash that I've missed and that was the only CW superhero entity that I was still staying on board with. All the rest lost me a while back.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ending Next Season Too?

Clark Gregg referred to it as "the seventh and final season" and this makes sense. A shorter episode order, a time change, and the shift over to Disney+ means this show really didn't have much of a chance of having another season after this. Let's hope they go out with a bang and we can stop having things only tangentially be in the MCU.

Idris Elba for Deadshot?

Supposedly, Will Smith isn't coming back to be Deadshot for the next Suicide Squad movie, which both is and isn't a reboot and basically has the same title as the first one, which is beyond stupid, and they want to replace him with Idris Elba.

At this point, fuck it, just do whatever. I don't think Elba is the right man for the job to play Deadshot, but I also think Deadshot has to be in this movie for it to work, but I also think this movie shouldn't even be made, so I'm clearly not getting my way no matter what hahaha.

Short List for Next Batman?

Rumor has it the five actors in the running to be the next Batman are Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Alexander Ludwig and Jack Reynor.

Hoult is a major no to me. He doesn't have the face for it. Sorry pal. I like him as an actor, but this isn't the part for him. He was already Beast and I don't think he should be Batman after that. (I know, I know, Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds have done two superheroes, but still)

Johnson is a similar case wherein I like him quite a bit, but now, I don't want Kick-Ass and Quicksilver to be Batman. I also think he lacks the psycho edge to him that I want my Batman to have, and I don't think I'd buy Johnson as Bruce Wayne, either. He's a little too goofy.

I know pretty much nothing about O'Connell and Ludwig, but neither look at all like Batman/Wayne to me. Pass.

Reynor is the best choice out of that list of five, but even he is nowhere near who I'd want to see be the next Batman, so I'm hoping this list isn't true.

Update: Apparently, this has been debunked, so yay.
