Week in Geek #35: No More Batfleck, Birds of Prey Teaser and More

Posted by Anthony Mango Saturday, February 2, 2019
Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Black Panther Returning to Theaters for Black History Month

From February 1-7, Black Panther is going to come back to 250 AMC theaters for seemingly two reasons: Black History Month and to give it an extra boost for the Academy Awards.

VERY smart move. Also, tickets are going to be free? That's a great way to get people to really give your movie lots of positive buzz. Kudos, team. Great movie, too, as I've said time and time again.

Black Panther Wins at Screen Actors Guild Awards

The film took the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture award and Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture. Nice!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 Teaser

So....huh? I'm assuming this is an alternate dimension type deal or something, as they can't do time travel again without it just being stupid.

To be honest, I wish they would go back to the previous formula of just having more scaled down things to deal with. Season 1 and parts of season 2 were my favorites overall.

Birds of Prey Teaser

This did absolutely nothing to quell my fears about this movie. In fact, it really proved that I have every reason to be fearful, because it's stupid. It's a meaningless set of images that show a Black Mask without a black mask, a drugged out looking Black Canary, a Cassie Cain that doesn't strike me at all as that character in the slightest bit, and it's trying to be cutesy.

Zombieland: Double Tap

Not sure I dig the title, but it's not something bothersome. Rosario Dawson will be in it, though, which is a plus.

Ben Affleck Exits The Batman

Seems we have another story about Affleck no longer being Batman. At this point, fuck it. DC's movies are so haphazard and crazy that I'm not investing anything in them, in particular. If they aren't going to crossover with each other anymore, then go ahead and cast a new Batman. Just make good movies and maybe you can revisit the Justice League in the future when you have an actual game plan, instead of throwing things out there and hoping some of it sticks.

DC Super Pets

Yeah....this isn't one of those good ideas. A whole movie revolving around Krypto and all? Stupid. That's an animated kids flick project, not an actual movie.

Batman Beyond Film....J/K

Rumors went around that there would be a Batman Beyond film in the works. Now, those are said to be not true.
