Week in Geek #16: Batman's Damned Penis, Captain Marvel Trailer and More

Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Batgirl Series Coming to DC Universe Service

A 13-episode live action series is rumored for the DC streaming platform. If that's the case, I'll check it out. I like Barbara Gordon.

Brainiac for Supergirl Film

Don't do a Supergirl film. If you do, don't waste Brainiac. Brainiac should be the villain for a Superman film, with Henry Cavill.

First Look at Joaquin Phoenix as Joker

Well, technically as "Arthur Fleck"...and sure, he looks like he could eventually turn into Joker, because that's what Phoenix has always looked like. I'm still assuming this movie is going to be a mess, though.

Brett Cullen Cast as Thomas Wayne in Joker

Not really familiar with him. I know he was in The Dark Knight Rises and Person of Interest, but I can't really place him.

Captain Marvel Trailer

So Nick Fury looks so good with the CGI. I don't get why a big deal was made out of Thor and such when Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. have already dealt with alien threats in the past. Brie Larson is going to be such a good Danvers. The trailer itself didn't really speak too much to me to get me pumped, but it's Marvel, so it's going to be great.

Batman: Damned Shows Bruce Wayne's Penis

Won't somebody please think of the children!!??! Come on. It's a penis. All guys have them. It wasn't some graphic thing of him playing with his Batdick. Could they have had a convenient shadow block it? Sure. Was this necessary? Nope. But it's no big deal, especially since it's part of a line that is supposed to be more adult-oriented, and when nobody thinks twice about all the violence in regular comics.

All-Female Marvel Superhero Show in the Works

Well, like anything else, I'll withhold judgment until more information is out there. Who are the characters? What is the team? What is the premise of the show? Is it going to be JUST about how they're women, or is it going to be a show that just happens to have all women as the main characters? If it's got one goal in mind, which is entirely just "market to women and take a feminist edge and be political", then I'm out, because I'm a guy and I don't like shows/movies that exist entirely just to be political, no matter what the message. But if it's something where there's more substance to it, then that's awesome. That's why I wasn't interested in Marvel's Most Wanted. I didn't want a Hunter and Morse spinoff. But that's why I'm into Damage Patrol, cause I do want a comedy show about the cleanup crew. It all depends.

Marvel Shows for Disney Play

Supposedly, we're getting spinoff shows that will be something like six to eight episodes. First off, great episode count. Second, it's great that these are going to be controlled by Marvel Studios and not the TV division, as the TV shows have been just good at best. Now, let's dive into the rumored characters.

Scarlet Witch - What's her story here? I'd be totally cool with a spinoff of her and Vision after Avengers 4, but it all depends on what they want to do, and I definitely want Vision in it. I'm not interested in a prequel or something along those lines.

Loki - With Loki, on the other hand, I'm interested in pretty much anything.

Who else could get spinoffs? Well, I'd like to see something given to Hawkeye, for sure. I don't want Valkyrie, even though I know that's not a popular opinion. I just felt like her character was okay and nothing special. I liked Lady Sif better. I'd be cool with a Winter Soldier story. I'd also be cool with a Ravagers show with Stallone and company. Nick Fury and Maria Hill?

Ralph Breaks the Internet Trailer 2

Crap. This doesn't look as good as the first one...

Cary Fukunaga to Helm Bond 25

Interesting choice. We'll see.
