Week in Geek #9: Zack Snyder's Plans for Robin and More

Posted by Anthony Mango Thursday, August 2, 2018
Welcome to another edition of WEEK IN GEEK here at Fanboys Anonymous—a rundown of some of the events, news and stories that went down over the past few days in the geek culture spectrum.

This week in geek culture Fanboys Anonymous nerd recap

Here are some of the topics I felt like voicing my opinions about:

Frank Miller Gets Sin City TV and Film Rights Back from Miramax/Lantern Capital Partners

This doesn't mean much right now, but it could in the near future. With Miller having the rights back, we could see the creation of a different television series on something like Netflix that acts as a new adaptation of the source material, or a follow-up if the original cast wants to continue in some way.

Iron Fist to have 10 Episodes

Much, much better! One of the biggest problems with the Netflix series tends to be the amount of filler and if they're cutting 3 episodes from the season, that should really trim down on that problem. Very smart move.

Zack Snyder Would Have Ruined Robin in Two Ways

It's come out that Snyder's plan was to have had Dick Grayson be the Robin who got killed by The Joker, instead of Jason Todd, and that he would have introduced Carrie Kelley down the line. This was thankfully avoided, and I hate that people run to these ideas. Just because you liked The Dark Knight Returns doesn't mean Carrie Kelley is anything worthwhile of a Robin and that you should skip over the ENTIRE Bat-family in order to bring her character on screen. No. And you can't kill Grayson instead of Todd just because it's easier. I'm so, so glad we didn't get this.

Venom Trailer

This definitely looks much better than it did before, but I'm still somewhat hesitant to trust it, knowing how they've worked in the past and what their ideas were.

Kraven the Hunter Film in Development

I said this before, and I'll say it again. Kraven isn't a protagonist, nor someone you can make a movie revolve around. He needs to be one of two villains in a Spider-Man film, with the other being something like Scorpion or Lizard.

Batman Not Year One?

Good. But I'm still not sure what the hell we're getting, if we're getting anything at all.

No National Treasure 3

Jon Turteltaub has said that other franchises take priority because Disney films that they can make more money, but they're still looking for the right script. I feel like if you haven't figured it out by now, you probably aren't going to. It's been 10 years.
