It was announced today by Lucas Films that the next installment in the Star Wars saga will focus on the legendary smuggler who made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs with the Millennium Falcon. That's right, my friends, Han Solo will be getting his very own film.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, best known for The Lego Movie, will be taking on the challenge of bringing a much younger Solo to the screen for a much younger generation. Here's what they had to say upon the announcement:
"This is the first film we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you've loved since before you can remember having dreams at all."The Han Solo film has been written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasda and will focus on Solo's younger years. Before the days of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker finding the scruffy looking nerf herder in Mos Eisley, the film will dive into what he was doing before Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.
Solo's solo film is set to hit theaters May 25th 2018.
