SDCC '14: Game of Thrones Season Five Cast Announced

Game of Thrones is a show well-known for taking characters you've grown to love (or hate) and killing them mercilessly and gruesomely. "Valar morghulis," after all. The show is also known for its wide cast of eclectic personalities. Killing major characters leaves room for new ones to come in, and today we received the official announcement in regards to who our new faces will be in season five.

Revealed Friday afternoon at San Diego Comic-Con 2014, HBO made their announcement along with a matching YouTube video featuring the new cast members sharing their excitement in joining one of the most beloved television series of all time.


The list of new named include Alexander Siddig as Doran Martell; Enzo Cilenti as Yezzan; Toby Sebastian as Trystane Martell; Rosabell Laurenti Sellers as Tyene Sand; Nell Tiger Free as Myrcella Baratheon; DeObia Oparei as Areo Hotah; Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow; Jessica Henwick as Nymeria (“Nym”) Sand; and Keisha Castle-Hughes as Obara Sand.

Alexander Siddig Biography
Alexander Siddig as Doran Martell

Siddig is best known for playing Dr. Julian Bashir on the television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as well as Hermes in Clash of the Titans.

"Doran Martell is the Prince of Dorne and the Lord of Sunspear. He is the head of House Martell, the ruling house of Dorne. He is the older brother of the late Princess Elia, who was murdered by Ser Gregor Clegane in the Sack of King's Landing, and Prince Oberyn, known as The Red Viper. Toby Sebastian Biography
Toby Sebastian as Trystane Martell

Toby has spent most of his time working on a solo music career, but did play small roles in After the Dark and the upcoming Barely Lethal.

"Prince Trystane is a member of House Martell, the ruling house of Dorne. He is the youngest son of Prince Doran Martell, Lord of Sunspear and Prince of Dorne. Trystane is arranged as a potential marriage candidate for Princess Myrcella Baratheon." - Game of Thrones Wiki

Nell is still new to the acting world, only having played a small role in Broken and the made for BBC movie Mr. Stink. She'll be reprising the role originally played by Aimee Richardson, who was last seen in season two being shipped to Dorne for an arranged marriage with Trystane Martell.

After landing the lead role in the BBC series Spirit Warriors, Henwick trained in wushu (Chinese martial arts). These deadly skills shall prove useful for the role as one of the hot-blooded Sand Snakes.

Sellers began as a child on Broadway, but soon moved and has since spent the majority of her career as an Italian film actress.

Castle-Hughes made her debut as the lead in the film Whale Rider, and would receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress on her first outing. Star Wars fans may also recognize her as Queen Apailana of Naboo in Revenge of the Sith.

Operei is man of many talents, having spent a professional career as an actor, dancer, street performer, stripper, writer, and drag queen. He is best known for playing Destroyer in Doom; Le Chocolat in Moulin Rouge!; and Arthur in Alien3.

Jonathan Pryce biography
Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow

Pryce made a name for himself on the stage, most notably his award-winning performance as the lead role of the British Court Theatre's Hamlet. He has since become a major box-office film star beginning with Brazil, as well as roles in Tomorrow Never Dies and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Enzo Cilenti biography

Cilenti is another famed stage actor making the transition into American film and television. He's already played roles in Next, Kick-Ass 2, and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
